Dale actually had a Triple Double as she had a dreadful 10 Turnovers
But a good 14 rebounds and 17 points while playing all 40 minutes. Dale hit 6-13 FGs and 4-4 FTs for efficient shooting.

Anyone know why Marta Vargas did not play?

The transfer is Yanni Hendley who is coming here from Virginia. She's a 5'7 point guard who was part of Virginia's recruiting class for this year and didn't play, so she will have all four years of eligibility remaining. Scouts gave her an 88 grade and ranked her a three star recruit as the 82nd best point guard in the country. This is how she was described when Virginia announced their signing class in July:

"Yanni Hendley helped lead Ursuline Academy to the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association state title in both 2016 and 2017 before transferring to Riverdale Baptist and playing on the 2018 Independent School National Champion squad. She is a 2019 National Association of Christian Athletes All-American and the Pigskin Club Girls All-Metropolitan Basketball Player of the Year. She was also All-Catholic second team as a sophomore and earned an honorable mention for the Independent School National Championships team as a junior.

"Often underestimated, Yanni is small in stature yet big in game," Thompson said. "She is a lockdown defender, 94 feet. Fiery and has the ability to make an instant impact without having the ball in her hand. That's a mentality."

Sounds exactly like what Rhody needs! The PG’s that rhody have had and the guards in general the last few years have been very selfish with a me first score mentality. They don’t make anybody better, lousy passers and just look to score first, and pass second. On top of that they are turnover prone and generally play god awful defense. Part of the problem is over the years the coaches have never called them out on it. Big reason why we lost to Harvard, a game we should of had along with a few others. This kid sounds like a definite upgrade!

First women’s game of the season for me today: sitting here with about 50 of my closest friends 😀 .... still early, though.
I see from the roster sheet that VCU is 5-8. Since I don’t know the A10 women’s teams’ history and don’t know who VCU has played so far, I have no idea what to expect. I’m interested to see in person how things go with the new coach.
No issue with wi fi today! 😂

Tough sport with no point guard. They were already very thin, without Vargas it’s double trouble.

They play hard right to the end and after the first quarter it was relatively even on the scoreboard. Team is not overly talented and depth is thin but good opportunity for young players to gain some valuable experience. Definitely some talent coming in next year.

Yeah, they are deficient athletically, which makes it hard to run a good offense. VCU’s bigs had pretty good skill offensively.
I know they have some transfers sitting out. I guess everyone needs to be patient and wait for next year.
Passed DC on the way out and wished him luck tomorrow. I resisted the urge to tell him he should take a look at VCU’s number 1 as an outside shooter. She was deadly from 3.

Wow, everybody jumping ship so soon? Wait till next year?
What happened to the posters that were ready to punch this teams ticket to the NCAA’s . Brown had a solid game scoring , has to work on condition and defense. There are no 30 plus minute players on this team. They gas out and defense goes bye bye because it’s still a selfish team with the exception of a couple kids. Defense and conditioning is the issue here. Should be playing more zone and need to get better ball rotation. Too many forced shots especially by the guards. We are not the best team in the A10 but certainly not the worst. Providence who we should have beat played #16 DePaul to a 6 point game. Except for top 10 teams, anybody can beat anybody in women’s basketball on the right day, with the right attitude and the proper preparation and execution. Otherwise you all will be singing the same old song , “ wait till next year” year after year!

First game I've been able to see in a while.

Davida Dale had a double-double within like a minute of the 2nd half.

On offense, they were missing wide-open shots, and Davida went from playing in control to trying to do the hero ball thing she played last year...the offensive flow really continues to miss Marta Vargas (who was on the bench with her left foot in a walking cast). They played demonstrably better in the second half than the first.

Nicole Jorgensen looked like she did in the early part of the year.

Still don't protect the ball that well.

Defense was way better in the 2nd half too, but they missed some rotations which lead to wide open shots. Maia Moffitt was especially really active.

That three that Klimkiewicz hit at the end of Q1 was bananas.

Going into the game, Richmond's RPI rank was 94, and WBBState's Total Context Rating was 169. Rhode Island's were 226 and 170. URI was 55.9% to win.

It was a nice win over a better conference opponent. There were plenty of opportunities for the Wrams to pack it it, but to her credit Coach Reese never takes her foot off the gas. She coaches the full forty. Sometimes they respond and sometimes they don't. While the talent level is fairly even with last year, the culture has vastly changed. Looking forward to some good things down the road.

We came in (7-6) while Richmond came in 7-8.
Richmond was picked preseason to finish 11th while URI was picked to finish 12th.
So we should be Expected to win last night at home.
We started off terribly but played great defense in the 2nd quarter to make it closer at halftime.
A good win. Any A10 win is good. But Richmond was a game that we should win - and did in OT. Impressive play in OT.

We really miss Marta at PG. Dale had a good night bringing the ball up the court but she is not a PG - she doesn’t have the passing ability that a PG possesses. But she had a nice scoring, rebounding and defensive night.

Defense wins games, and wins championships. You can have a bad night offensively but defense is all effort and remains constant giving you an opportunity to win when the ball isn’t dropping thru the hoop for you. Interesting how coach is changing up combinations especially in second half of last two games to get after it with a bigger , defensive unit. The move made them competitive against vcu in the second half and won them the game against Richmond. Marta gives Uri more depth but is not a true point that spreads the ball and moves it. She is a score first guard like Davida . In the first half Richmond was easily going around our defenders, 2nd half did a much better job . If this team plays unselfish and gets better defensively and condition wise, there is a good chance to finish middle of the pack with a winning record and possible NIT bid. I think we let a few winnable games get away from us early in year by not working hard on d and selfish offensive play. Go Rhody!

Agree with your points All In, except the defense picked up in the 2nd Quarter, not until 2nd half
Things looked grim after the 1stQ when we went down 20-8 but then an amazing turnaround in the 2ndQ when Richmond scored only 6 points putting us right back in the game.

Help is on the way for next year. Aside from the transfer URI recruit Dolly Cairns from Saratoga is having a great year. She been on varsity since 7th grade and a starter since eighth in NY’s largest school classification. She’s averaging 32 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. In a video posted on WNYT.com today she is said to have NBA range from 3.

Dale needs to be put in check! She is not a one woman team! She is a great talent but she is awfully selfish and forced way too much and over over dribbling because she is looking for herself first instead of running the team! PASS THE BALL!!!

Yes keep feeding Jorgensen the rest of the year. I haven’t seen a team stop the high low yet. Jones had a good offensive game. Though she forced things a bit in 4th quarter. I think the bigger team with jones , Jorgensen Oberg, moffit and Dale gives opposing teams problems. Dale settled down a little bit in second half . She does a lot of things well and needs to let o come to her and move the ball. We competed with one of the top teams in league and really did not play our A game. I think an NIT bid is possible if they defend and share the ball better and more.

Great win on the road ! There were some hiccups again with some selfish play but the corner bomb from jones was miraculous and the high low between Jorgensen and Nicole is pretty to watch. Defense wins this one but surprisingly this team has an even higher upside. Run the coach’s stuff and defend , stop forcing dumb shots and they will go far. Team first , pack the attitudes and selfish play away !

Easily could have folded up their tent and gone home when UMASS tied the game, then took the lead and Dale got hurt. Instead, they rallied together, played hard and her return to the game was like something scripted out of Hollywood. Some great plays called out of the time outs today by Coach Reiss. This team is fun to watch.

Dale coming back was amazing. It appeared she was badly hurt, I believe her back? And went with the trainer to be examined. Everyone was amazed when she returned. Huge steal at the end of the game. 10 points 10 rebounds.

Nicole Jorgensen had another tremendous game. Limited to 27 minutes because of foul trouble she had 21 points, 17 rebounds on 7-10 FGs. She had a large family and friends contingent to watch her. Following her 24 points 19 rebounds at St Josephs she should capture another A10 PLayer of the Week with those two upset wins.
Erin Jones another solid game as she continues to improve and Brazil Harvey-Carr with 4-8 3-pointers came up huge.

2nd straight A10 Player of the Week Award for Nicole Jorgensen.

She is the first Ram to be named to the league's weekly honors three times in one season since Michele Washington earned the accolade on Dec. 9, 1985, Feb. 24, 1986, and March 3, 1986.
