We had chants way worse than over the mountain lol back in the day.

Rain blue hell wins the day!

Whoever had the PC scout on this one killed it. Cox is firmly entrenched this is his team and his offense should be firing on all cylinders with nearly two more weeks of practice. Langevine owns the high post in our sets he has come so far and Cox genius in recognizing it is truly remarkable. The amazing turnaround from Pitino talk continues. Nice guy too, this could be a real good run.

Hrstrat57 broken record but Russell’s speed is mind boggling. Don’t ever pass up a chance to sit near the floor at a URI game his foot speed is beyond belief at floor level. You think you’ve got him fronted and he’s gone.

Looks like DJ is a redshirt got what we needed from Martin and Russell. Long and Toppin will soar as confidence grow.

Taped and watched the ESPN2 replay Plansky analysis was spot on mostly. Great video representation of our program really a 2 hour recruitment tape.

Pipkins appears to have been a epic fail.

We don’t have to listen to any PC crap for a year. Man we showed em why a on campus arena is real college basketball vs a downtown dump.

Go Rhody

The one negative last night was the scoreboard. Before, they put up adds after every foul, so you can’t see the players stats, last night they did it after every URI basket. That is totally bush league. Put the adds on the ribbon, not over the players stats!!!

Fatts mentioned in so many words that he's really banged up.

He's going to get the worst end of most collisions, he's a little guy.

For a guy who's banged up, imagine what he'll do with a couple of weeks time to recover!

We've got 1 game in the next 3 weeks. Everyone should be good to go for the conference schedule.

Long played very well. Good to see him gaining confidence. Toppin had a good defensive night also.
PC playing Diallo mostly at the 4 helped with the effective play of Long and Toppin. Rhody won’t be able to do that as much agaan opponent that plays to bigs. Holt didn’t play much in the second half.

Responding to some comments from others about Long:
I didn’t think any of the Fr would have an impact this year because I thought the 8 man rotation would include Walker, Sheppard & Tate from game 1 and that DJ would be a shooting specialist if the regulars were struggling on offense. That obviously changed dramatically with the Walker and Sheppard situation. Add to that DJ is behind the Fr in the rotation.

I felt Long would have a TJ like career. I said he will do well defensively and rebounding. I still feel that way. Cox calls Long a swiss army knife. To me that was TJ. Long’s three FGs were dunks and layups. He needs to get his points near the basket.

With the invaluable help from the officials our rag-tag team of poor players from a poor conference, coached by a clueless coach, and a once-in-a-lifetime crowd, managed to eke out a win over a team from a stellar conference....

The biggest positive from his game for me was the defensive intensity from everyone. If they can play that level of defense consistently, they are going to have a very good year. Every pass seemed to be contested and every shot down low in the second half was contested by multiple players. I loved the double teams on Watson. He isn’t a good passer and Rhody knew that. I am encouraged that Cox go thru to the players about defensive intensity.

Second largest crowd in history. Least amount of PC fans getting tickets. Held out long enough to sell the most five game packs ever and still sellout the game (including some standing room).

Woke up this morning with unbelievable pain in my throat and no voice from all the cheering after that beautiful URI game! I sat behind the hoop opposite the student section. Watching Fatts go to work was incredible. There is so much he can do that you can't put on a stat sheet. He sets up the disruptive D for this team.

Now I wouldn't say this poster I gave to the student section was the reason we won the game, but the students had a hell of time waving it at Cooley every timeout.

How many times os Cooley going to throw this line out in a press conference after a game - “ That was a poor performance. I’m very, very disappointed in our group and more disappointed in myself. Hopefully I can do a better job next time we play.”

Friar fans have to be sick of hearing that this past few weeks.

On paper that PC team should be better than what they are. They have a core group of highly-rated recruits. Cooley can't put it together.

That being said. Cox has diamonds in the rough with Long and Toppin. Fatts is playing as good as anyone in the country. And Cox is just a better coach than Cooley.

PC has collapsed several times down the stretch of games this season.

We used to know the feeling.

Thank goodness Cox seems to be able to make the right adjustments in tight games.

Of course we have Fatts, and they don't lol.

And I was trashing Fatts after the Maryland game. Since then, he's been on fire.

Nice to know my comments inspired him lol.

On that note, got to love a comment from a couple of Friar fans on their board after the game.

Said that Cooley got Pipkins because he was beating them when he was at UMass.

But now that they've got him, he's STILL beating them. Classic.

I think Martin had a tougher defensive assignment than we realize and that he stepped up the defensive intensity. I think the home crowd got him going early because he seemed focused.

Bringing in a grad transfer for 1 year is supposed to help bridge a team or be an off the bench spark plug.

It’s like Ed only watched the game he played against the friars and didn’t watch any tapes.

Head scratching with the supposedly talented young guards they have.

As much as I want to say it sucks to suck - it’d be great if they could stop sucking so this win means more than bragging rights.

It was a great night at the Ryan Center! URI played well and there are a few things to work on to get to the next level. I do not think Tyrese Martin is ready to play minutes in the backcourt, he is a real good player but a little bit of a ball stopper and telegraphs his passes a little too often. I hope that Hammond is ready sooner than later to add depth to the backcourt. We have really great depth at the wing with those guys taking some of the PF minutes and playing well. It will be interesting to see how Walker is integrated. Coach Cox is doing a good job. URI is playing very good defense. I will give the Friars credit for a strong interior defense hopefully they win some games to help our resume.

Actually, could someone post the link to the Friar message board? I would love to read the comments. Always interesting stuff from the fan base when a team loses a rivalry game (yes, Ed, it is a rivalry), especially in the middle of the tailspin they’ve been on the past two weeks.

I used to respect Cooley as a coach and a person, now he’s just a pompous, arrogant, overrated coach who thinks him and his program are on the same level as Duke, Kentucky, etc.

His interviews pre / post game come off as tone deaf when it comes to this game and both of the teams involved. Taking shots at this game and the media.

Guy has the same amount of NCAA tourney wins as Ryan freakin Odom yet carries himself like he’s gonna be the next HOF coach and his program will compete for national titles on a yearly basis.

Clearly Needs a reality check, hopefully last night was it.

One thing that Cox is ahead of Hurley at the same junction their respective careers here is Cox is much better at drawing up plays coming out of the timeout. We score almost every time, and in times we don’t score we get an open look.

Very very impressed with that.

Stop I’m beggin ya.

My strong take
Actually, could someone post the link to the Friar message board? I would love to read the comments. Always interesting stuff from the fan base when a team loses a rivalry game (yes, Ed, it is a rivalry), especially in the middle of the tailspin they’ve been on the past two weeks.
I won’t post any of their messages, though.

There were 3 in the house.
Who were they?

And were any of them 6'10 or above, walking and chewing gum at the same time?

I haven’t looked at their board because I generally don’t care what they think or say, but I bet if we’d got smoked last night this place would be a smoking post-apocalyptic wasteland right now. So from that standpoint I’m a little hesitant to make fun of the posters on their board. We haven’t exactly covered ourselves in glory after every loss.

On the other hand, I did go back to Richard’s after the game to drop my dad at his car and have a beer to celebrate the win, and there was a group of Friar fans outside the front door with one particularly PCish looking guy (aka Jersey shore casting reject) holding court and doing a first-ballot Unintentional Comedy Hall of Fame rant about Cooley. I can’t remember what it was verbatim, but the takeaway is that he is done with Cooley. Insofar as I consider this guy to be a perfect representative of the Friar fan base in every possible way, I don’t need to go to their board to know what that world looks like right now.

I heard that guy too! He came in and treated us to a second act of the show at the bar. He had me in tears laughing.

Awesome game. PC sucks. I wasn't worried and I said as much going into the game.

Wow Fatts becoming a star! This is what I have been talking about. Somebody anybody please become a star. Very exciting stuff.

Defense was good. Hopefully a springboard to greater things.
