URI is back on US soil and looking to get back to their winning ways as they take on the Manhattan Jaspers at home in a late afternoon game the day before Thanksgiving. With students heading home for the holiday, expect a low attendance at this one. Even with the low attendance, URI should take home the “W”. Height won’t be an issue like it was against LSU as most of the high scorers for the Jaspars are guards. Fun fact, the last time these two teams faced off 14 years ago Rhody’s starting lineup featured 4 forwards & a center. I think this year’s team will be too quick & athletic for the Jaspers to contain. Speaking of too quick, Manhattan coach Steve Masiello was a walk on for Kentucky during the late 90s when old friend Rick “15 Seconds” Pitino was the coach.

When GoRhody LSU postgame came out it had URI - Manhattan Game at 7pm, even late last night it was that way. Now says 4:00pm correctly.

Would be a disaster if people showed up for a 7pm game and the parking lot was clearing out from the 4pm.

Even if the 4pm was always correct, fans could still make the false assumption that the game is at its traditional 7pm time slot.

I think it was done so that we could have closer to a full schedule, and the date/time was settled on due to the scheduling constraints of both teams.

I think they handle Manhattan easily. I doubt they trail at all in the second half. I like a game like this for Cox to highlight some specific things, maybe expand the rotation or focus on getting Martin going. There’s some margin for error here to test some things out and respond accordingly.

This is very on brand for you but I’m curious, have you seen Manhattan play this year? What basis do you have for saying they aren’t a pushover? On any given day anyone can beat anyone but this is basically your take for every game we play against a potentially inferior opponent so just wondering if you have any basis for it or just the normal doom and gloom.

Unfortunately, the students will be home for Thanksgiving break. I suppose a few of the locals will show up, but I'd be surprised to see more than 100 students at the game.

There likely were not many choices for a date the two schools had open and could agree upon. Keep in mind this was a late add to the schedule that was needed after a Jamaica Classic game fell through. Last game to be pinned down and it was done so very late in the process when there were very few options.

Many schools are playing games beginning as early as noon on Wednesday, some at 2pm, some at 3pm, others at 4pm. It’s not only URI.
Even if played at 7pm it’s likely the attendance would be 4000 or less.

My freshman year ('07 Baron era) you could get up to four tickets. I can't remember if you needed to show 4 IDs at first or if they changed it later in the season. We had something like 15 of us all line up and go and we were just handing off IDs to one another. Ended up with a ridiculous amount of tickets and handed them out all over Frat Circle.

Needless to say, the policy changed once we got rid of Baron. Probably around the time people actually wanted to go to games again.
