Like me, you may be thinking, who the hell are the Long Island University Sharks? You may have been familiar with the LIU Blackbirds, but what is the deal with the sharks? In July 2019, the two separate campuses of LIU, the DI Brooklyn & DII Post Pioneers combined into the D1 LIU Sharks. They have been picked as the NEC preseason favorite & redshirt senior Raiquan Clark (who started as a walk-on) was named unanimous pick for the preseason All-NEC team. The team is coached by former UMass player/coach, Derek Kellogg. Fun fact, the LIU uniforms look very similar to the 1987-88 URI's Sweet 16 team’s uniforms.

Clark is their best player, by far. They will likely try and run with us, that Kellogg's style of coaching. Similar to what Iona does.

Lots of one on one play.....funny thing is, DK's UMass teams always gave us fits especially on the road.

If we play solid D we should handle them without sweating it out late.

Not a gimme imo…..if we go in thinking easy game then it won't be.

......for me, the defense intensity is the key to these type games, take away what the opponent wants to execute........at times last season I thought the defense intensity was missing allowing teams to hang around......

105, our problem a lot of times, is the 1st 10 minutes.

Too much sleepwalking early...against good teams that usually doesn't end well.

Probably can recover against teams like LIU, but this has to stop happening right from the get go.

Last season we spent too much energy coming back from early game deficits, resulting in tired legs later.

Happened both at home and road.

This season yes we have more depth to overcome this, but how much depth is uncertain right now.

Correct. They are the NEC Preseason favorite. Should be a good challenge to start the season.

Agree with the comments about ESPN+ being worth it - $5 bucks per month, you can hardly go wrong. It was pretty unstable at times last year but from what I've heard, it's much better than last year (their first year, it takes awhile to get the bugs out). People who subscribed in the fall for football are saying it's pretty stable now.

The best chance for people out-of-state such as myself to watch some Rams hoops. I watch nearly every game I can of URI hoops and many of it which will be on ESPN+.

My father went to LIU Post. back then it was just C.W Post the LIU thing got added later. So for decades he's been telling them he would donate if the team went D1. So out of the blue a few years ago guy calls "It's 100% done, Post going D1, details to be worked out. a new rebranding ect.." Absolutely nothing suggesting the School is just actually killing it's (d2) team's. So he donates like 5k.

They actually had some very good one's when Tim Cluess was coach and went 32-1 one year. He actually went straight form Post to Iona. Which i always thought was kind of odd as I'm an Iona Alumni.

Cpl years later we find out from the school it's more like they are just killing off the post campus team's save football and combining with Brooklyn. To put it mildly he was not amused. He and a lot of other Alums felt like they were duped out of money on false pretenses.

I won't even get into the weirdness of calling it LIU when the now main campus is in Brooklyn.

I think it works off of Bluetooth and not their WiFi. It has been tested. It will be cool if enough people do it. I was at a Bruins playoff game last year and they did it.

I've been advised the app works without the need of bluetooth/data/wifi. As long as fans have the app installed & open the app when prompted, it'll work like a charm.

Should be very cool but it's going to take at least a few games to get our fans educated & engaged.

I'm hoping that by PC we'll have enough fan adoption that it becomes a cool experience. The video footage I've seen from other schools is really awesome and there's a bunch of other features that can be used to make our timeout events more interactive.

I downloaded the app, but my phone never works in the RC. Not sure how this will turn out.

It's so bad. I'll leave the RC, get to my car, sit at the light, and get to the 108/138 intersection and then I'll get text messages from 2-3 hours before. One thing to point out is that I have been in the RC at times where there hasn't been during an event and my phone works just fine. WiFi aside, I think the issue is partially when there's thousands of people in a small area competing for an LTE signal from their carriers is why our phones don't work. Another example I can think of is at the Blessing of the Fleet after the road race I've never been able to send a text, etc. because there are so many people there. I am by no means a phone expert but it's the only thing that makes sense.

I notice this effect just sitting in heavy traffic or on board the commuter rail. When too many people are trying to use a finite amount of bandwidth at the same time, it appears to flood the system and slow everything to a crawl.

Yes that is the issue, concentrated amount of people feeding off a finite amount of bandwidth....except like 95% of the other arenas in the country have figured out how to deal with it.

The answer seems to be obvious: increase the bandwidth. That’s just a pure infrastructure problem and requires a pure infrastructure solution. Unfortunately those cost money. Hopefully the Ryan Center has prioritized it enough to make some improvements.

Yep and I hope the powers that be realize that every student who can't make a video of them at a Rhody game, or tag a photo with RhodyMBB or go live from their seat at the PC game is a missed marketing opportunity...that alone would justify the cost to get it done.
