This is an opportunity to get an assistant coach that can coach big men. We need this. Is Bonzie available?

Yes, take Bonzie and Bonzie Jr. as a package deal.
Why would Martin even think twice?
Maybe the Ninja will kidnap the entire team in Europe and
we won't have any players?
Maybe the Mayans were a year off and the world ends next December 21st?
Maybe a meteor will hit the Ryan Center during the PC game, and all our players and fans will
be incinerated?
Is the glass always half empty, with worst case scenarios?

I don't know about the other stuff, but there's no need to worry about the Mayans predictions. I can tell you when the world will end....the day after I hit the lottery.

Seriously, I don't think Martin would want to not come here because Bobby is leaving. Since we got a positive tweet about EC, just wondering if we'll get one about Hassan. That is all.

I don't get why the coach would need to say anything. The thought honestly never crossed my mind that there would be an issue. If the head coach left, maybe. I love Bobby. I loved the Duke teams he was on. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world that he was at URI this past year, and I am sincerely rooting for him to succeed at Buffalo. But as far as URI is concerned, I see this almost a non-story. With how connected Dan is in the coaching community, I have every confidence we're going to replace Bobby with a really talented coach that is due for a shot.

TP, I do share those thoughts.

Just wish Bobby had stayed another year or two, so he could reap the rewards of something special he helped create at URI.

Bobby is going to be on the Dan Patrick show in a few minutes as well.

One thing that disappoints me is the Hurley's not getting to take a team to the tournament together, that would have been a cool story.

You guys hear any rumors about Bobby leaving Buffalo for Rutgers yet haha?

The Rutgers rumor is dead, Rice is staying. Willard is staying at Seton Hall also.

We were all worried [well maybe not all of us] that Dan and Bobby would go back to NJ. Well, Bobby left, and it wasn't for NJ, so when Dan eventually leaves, there's a good chance it won't be back to NJ either.

Don't discount the feelings of Bob's family may have had in the decision to leave, just saying......we/ll be OK, the bench coaching with Dan and Bob discussing/adjusting to the game flow is another factor I think we/re going to miss......His leaving for a D-1 program of that caliber is not a huge shock for me.....didn't see it coming so soon.....the mission remains the focus......

I thought the same thing, but perhaps the coach's announcement was more directed at other programs that might be prone to prodding him as to whether or not this has any effect on EC. 'Don't even bother asking me, he is still committed to URI' type of thing.

Good for Bobby, hope he does well.

I don't see the need for a big hire as an asst. coach promote the guys from within, keep them together. I was pretty pleased in the coaching job they did last year. If its not broken don't fix it.

Good luck to Coach Hurley! One would think that the Hurley's have strong family ties, but you would also think that sooner or later Bobby would go off on his own. After so many years of mediocrity or worse, let's try to remain positive. I'm just waiting for the rumor that some ram player willl be looking elsewhere. I believe that no one's leaving, the team will do well next year, the influx of new players will make the Ryan rock, we will be going to Brooklyn, and I will be going on an airplane to an undisclosed place in the U.S. with the team that I've been rooting for, for the past 53 years.

I am only surprised that he took the buffalo job - I think if he stayed another year something better may have opened up, although he has no HC experience so maybe not. His salary will go a long way in buffalo - very affordable place to live

I think it was a perfect storm for Bobby.
A Duke guy as AD, who he knows. A job opening
at a D-1 level, without any prior head coaching experience.
Why didn't he take the Wagner job? Who knows? Maybe
he just didn't feel he was ready, or there was something he
didn't like?
Regardless, he obviously felt the situation at Buffalo was the
right one for him.
Hope he does very well, and rises up the coaching ladder.

Disappointed to lose Bobby so soon, but definitely happy for him with this opportunity and I will wish him well wherever his coaching path takes him.

It's amazing what a culture change can do for a program, where the fans are sad to lose an assistant coach after an 8 win season...

Does Buffalo have a good point guard? I wonder, since we will have 3 point guards next year, and with EC most likely to have an immediate impact, if Mike Powell goes with Bobby. First of all, I have no idea if Mike is looking to transfer. But his dad did say that at the end of the year, he and Mike would sit down and look at their options. Maybe this would be a good option for Mike, to still get a lot of playing time, and to still be learning from one of the best college PGs of all time. ....just a wild thought.

Yes, we got the story about Bobby in the ProJo, from a Buffalo writer's perspective.....what seems to be important local basketball news to us apparently is not to the PC Journal college basketball writers. Obviously, McNamara has no interest in this story, but I figured at the very least, that Kenyon would.

You're assuming that after coaching him all year Bobby would want Mike Powell.

Would a great former PG want a player who was
resistant to taking floaters in the lane, after a full season of coaching?
Not trying to start a war here, but that's a fact.
Also, what's Hare's future. This has nothing to do with Bobby.

Definitely not the craziest idea. Seems a little unlikely but its interesting enough to think about. He would have to sit out a year and that could be valuable for his development as a point guard. However, Rod brings up a good point because Bobby wouldn't just take Powell for no reason, he would have to see value in bringing him in.

I am not convinced that he will not be our starting PG next year. I saw a lot of positives from him this year, especially his ball handling. EC may be our PG of the future, but no one knows at this point whether he will start, and I haven't seen Minnis in actual game situations to know if he can knock Mike out of the starters spot.

BH wouldn't take any player from URI unless URI didn't want the player. Going to Canisius is a different story. You don't tamper with players from your former job.

Unless you're Jim Baron. Of course, Billy's his son, so I could see that happening.

If a URI player wants to transfer, they can transfer, to whoever will take them, whether it's to Canisius or Buffalo or wherever.

Although who would want to go to Canisius is beyond me.

Nobody's going anywhere, meaning the transfers and EC and Hassan.

As for the holdovers, only Powell might be a question mark. He might be a good fit for that level.

As for recruiting, I think Dan would be looking at a higher level recruit. URI's at least a step up from the MAC. Or will be.

I don't think Bobby expected a job offer this soon. Obviously the Duke AD connection sealed it for him. I'm sure right up until the offer came, he was planning to stay here for another year or two, until the program found success, and then move on.

I doubt he'll stay long at Buffalo, after he gets that program moving up. That's his steppingstone job, like everyone is saying about Dan and URI.

Well, let's hope that Dan Hurley becomes the next Shaka Smart, and stays at URI for a long time. It really looks like Smart's career job is VCU. When you turn down UCLA, that's really saying something.
