Supposedly they have almost the entire 5 mil already.
So they should be starting this project soon, no?

Re: The 2019 Coaching Carousel
There's all kinds of pics about Meade the past couple of days, including one on twitter from Thorr. They're giving that lots of pub. If anything was going on with a BB facility, I'd think they'd do the same.

I have heard nothing about the $5 million or the Practice Facility and Hurley’s been gone a year now.

A solid, dedicated space goes a long way. I appreciate the saying, “done is better than perfect,” and I think it applies here. Done would be a major accomplishment. Too bad so much time has passed.Rhody83 wrote: ↑5 years agoURI is going to spend $5 million on the practice area. What did their PF cost? We're getting the Dollar Store version.
Any improvements will help at least.
Renovation of an existing space saves significant $.

Maybe Shane could enlighten us about any practice facility updates.

There is a thread on other school's practice facilities elsewhere in the forum:rambone 78 wrote: ↑5 years ago The redo will only be visible from inside, is my guess.

Just to give you an idea of what some other schools spent:
UConn $40M
PC $37.5M
UMass $30M
VCU $25M

Re: The 2019 Coaching Carousel
We know that. All of those where standalone facilities. PC also doesn’t have an on campus arena like the RC.RF1 wrote: ↑5 years agoThere is a thread on other school's practice facilities elsewhere in the forum:rambone 78 wrote: ↑5 years ago The redo will only be visible from inside, is my guess.

The practice facility is a recruiting vehicle. If Rhody spends $5 million and has what is needed for the team - practice court, weight room, training area with hot & cold tub, video room, locker room and a common area for the players - that will be good.

Re: The 2019 Coaching Carousel
You can tack onto the cost of URI’s $5M the cost of the underlying land and the construction costs associated with structure.
Just like it is cheaper to remodel a house you already own than it is to go out on the market and buy one, it shouldn’t be held against URI that it is taking a cost effective approach. The only thing that matters is how the facility stacks up at the end.

The outside will not look as impressive. I doubt it will have fancy offices for the coaches and space that is really for show to alumni and donors with banners and murals. It will be useful practice space.TruePoint wrote: ↑5 years ago You can tack onto the cost of URI’s $5M the cost of the underlying land and the construction costs associated with structure.

Rhody83, Thorr has said in a interview that will be the case - there would potentially be a Phase II that would provide the additional amenities.Rhody83 wrote: ↑5 years agoThe outside will not look as impressive. Common sense is not common.
Re: The 2019 Coaching Carousel
And that’s ok with me, or at least I can accept it. If the reality is that the total value of our facility when you factor in the existing value plus the added value is still half of what the other schools spent, then everyone can feel how they want to feel about that. It’s just intellectually dishonest to do the comparison of “this school spent $40M and we spent $5M” when the total value of the project is more than $5M. Let’s just compare apples to apples.Rhody83 wrote: ↑5 years agoThe outside will not look as impressive. if only we had a big shiny arena somewhere on campus that accomplished the goal of being "for show"...Rhody83 wrote: ↑5 years agoThe outside will not look as impressive. Re: The 2019 Coaching Carousel
People are questioning Stackhouse's recruiting. I wouldn't worry because he has sponsored a team in the RD Triangle pro am for years. He also sponsored an aau team...
He has strong ties to one of the stronger recruiting areas in the country.

Bobby Hurley throws like a girl and is excited about it. And I apologizes to all the girls that can throw.

St. John’s loses Ponds to NBA Draft and now loses their JC PG recruit who was to possibly replace Ponds
Plus lost top recruiter and Mullin most trusted assistant coach. Writing on the wall?

Gregg Marshall isn’t leaving Wichita State as long as the Koch brothers want him there.

"Every season, college basketball has one or two teams that rise from dormancy to relevancy, squads that make long-awaited charges at the NCAA Tournament and become really fun storylines along the way."
Re: The 2019 Coaching Carousel
Agree. As Rhody83 pointed out, promoting an assistant worked for them last time. But there’s a huge difference between grabbing a future star on the way up and promoting that guy and promoting a guy who is on a staff in the first place because he Peter Principle’d out elsewhere. Whitesell is a retread in every way. It’s crazy to me that there are still athletic directors willing to give these mediocre coaches their 3rd or 4th shot when they’ve already proven what they are and what they are not.

Re: The 2019 Coaching Carousel
If he knows he can win a national championship there, why would he leave? How much more money is he going to get? It doesn’t seem like a fluke, either. They went to the Elite Eight last year. Can’t imagine him going anywhere, and definitely not this year with what programs are looking for coaches. Historically you’d think UCLA is an elite job but it certainly doesn’t feel that way right now.
