If those offers are accurate for Dimon then we are in good company...might be better than I thought....

UConn’s previous staff was involved when he was in high school, but I haven’t heard of any current interest.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Good news is that he is from Lynn Massachusetts and played for BABC. After having spent time in Midland/Odessa Texas he is likely to yearn for home again. There is not much out there except oil wells and flat plains.

Exactly what we need. Staff addressing a weakness exposed by Davidson and St Bonnie.
League not just about guards anymore. Good job.

Previous interest from Houston and Syracuse.
It appears he wants to commit to Rhody. Staff decision at this point.
Visit is scheduled in next two weeks.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Looks like he can rebound and block shots at the JC level. FT's no.
Not much offensive game.
Can see why Reid would be a priority ahead of him.

Looking at some of his in game stats he fouls out / gets in foul trouble some of his games, but had good rebounding numbers in limited minutes

I don't think he would play many minutes here.
Just my opinion, popular or not.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
If they take him, my guess is to spell Cyril 8-10 minutes. He has the size and game to protect the paint at the 5 more than Harris or Walker. Total role player. Rebound, Defense & Blocks.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
You do need those guys. I’d prefer a four year impact guy, obviously, but I think we’d have been better last year if we could have gotten that from Tertsea, for example.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Reid is the better long term play. High upside. More of a wing (like Delroy).
Carrigan fills an immediate need. 10-12 min guy that protects the rim. Then, next year more minutes.
I wish he was 245 lbs instead of 215.
The pressure to win next year is high and will drive the decision, in my opinion. A window is closing.
This is much like the pressure that drove Dan to take Preston over Toppin.
There are times, as a mid major, when you have to make decisions like this.
(This assumes, of course, that the staff is in a situation to make a decision in the first place)

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Is it true that he has offers from Syracuse, Temple, Florida and Clemson? Or is it just "interest"?
That would be telling about his ability to contribute.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
I agree with this. Although you aren’t going to have 13 impact players at URI and we got nothing from Tertsea the last few years I would prefer to look around and see if we can get someone that won’t be a complete liability on the offensive end. He contributed almost no offense at the juco level meaning he had better be a very high end defensive player and rebounder. There are a lot of transfers and also some recruits that will change their mind. Maybe even a player that sits a year with 2-3 years eligibility left.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
He is a high end defensive player. One of the best shot blockers in JUCO. He will extend the rotation and allow Cyril to rest 5-8 minutes a game.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Right now Cyril is the only center on the roster so, having another center would really help. Especially if hes 6'10 and really good at blocking shots.
It would be nice to have a guy who can do that and score, but those are especially hard to come by.
Are we looking at anyone else other than Reid and Carrigan?

Don’t think so. I think we will end up with Carrigan, so let’s be prepared to welcome the kid if he decides to come here. He did start and play for one of the best JUCO teams in the country. He’s doing something right....PeterRamTime wrote: ↑5 years ago Right now Cyril is the only center on the roster so, having another center would really help. Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
But does he want to come here and play 10 minutes a game or go to a lower level and play much more?

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
People are acting like defensive minded centers are not a commonplace thing in basketball. Personally, i think if the guy is a good-or-better rim protector and rebounder and has the ability to score on put backs and/or running the floor then there could be much more than 10 minutes per game available for him.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
I think how much time he would get depends on how much Harris improves. If Harris makes a decent jump then 10-15, barring injury or foul trouble is all that should be expected. I expect Walker will get minutes at the 4 as well.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
A rim protector and rebounder is a huge game changer to a defensive scheme, allows your guards to pressure the ball and know they have protection in the paint, makes guards second guess dribble drives, that alone can catapult a team. I think of teams like Baylor who always seem to have an elite shot blocker who only dunks or gets putbacks on O. I like this pick up if that’s the way we go.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Need size, every major game we’ve lost going back the past few seasons has had a lot to do with our lack of size. (Scoring in the paint rebounds rim protection ect. Langivine cant carry the load and Harris/Mading needs a buddy down there moving forward.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Think of the days when Hassan Martin roamed the Ryan center, teams where affraid to drive to the basket which allowed the guards to pressure the ball even more with confidence knowing that they had a rim protector. this season we had a total of 129 blocks 2016-2017 206 .
This alone tells you what we need, a rim protector, doesn't have to block all the shots, changing shots is just important.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Agreed. We have plenty of scorers. This off-season was about picking up a shot blocking big and a shooter. I know we’re all hoping Sheppard fills the later.TruePoint wrote: ↑5 years ago People are acting like defensive minded centers are not a commonplace thing in basketball. Players than can contribute and have an impact are good takes to me. Rim protector is something not on the roster.

Yes Cyril is the only guy that can guard any good bigs and last time he guarded a good big he got 26 and 22 put on him... could maybe use a guy like Carrigan

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Has Carrigan put on anymore weight or is he still hooverig around 215. Would love to see him bulk up to 240 if he’s going to spell Cyril and bang with Mitchell, Santos-Silva and Obi.

Heard he is 6’10” 220 so not much bulk. Harris is 6’8” 220. Maybe they can bulk up together.SandorClegane wrote: ↑5 years ago Has Carrigan put on anymore weight or is he still hooverig around 215. Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
Yes - not a ton of minutes next year on what you think is an NCAA team. His senior season should be a huge boost in minutes when he is the only returning post defender (on what should be again an NCAA team if the remaining freshmen develop). Bring in the 4 year defensive minded big in the 2020 class.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑5 years ago But does he want to come here and play 10 minutes a game or go to a lower level and play much more?
I like Reid as well, but there is a difference between 6’8” (which usually means 6’7”) and a guy who is 6’10” especially if he has some length.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
I've noticed more teams getting deeper at the forward spot, even the A10. Even if he plays 10 mins, that would be great for the team as a whole. Playing offense/defense and maybe challenging other players for more time. This team needs a kick in the butt and next year is gonna me competitive as hell.

Re: '19 JUCO C - Dimon Carrigan
I like this guy more than I do Reid right now.
Immediate help on defense and potentially a lot of help against foes with good bigs.
We can get a stud big next year after we GO ON A BIG RUN IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT BECAUSE WE ARE TIRED OF THIS LOSING SHIT AND FATTS BECOMS THE NEXT DREW EDWARDS.
After all that, the big guys will come.
