Still puzzled why we couldn’t close that deal.
Exactly the one piece we are missing to be elite club.
Sigh.....

This from 6 months ago.
You send Jim Carr,(yawn!) while other schools sent their head coaches.
Kid probably felt he wasn't a priority for URI.

What is being tapped danced around is, what I wrote on page one.
If this player was such a priority, you put your best foot forward.
Depending on some nebulous connection with NJ was not
the way to go.
In the end, it may not have mattered, but knowing you
made your best effort like we did with, say, Terrell,
means you never second guess yourself.

Considering all recruiting of Juiston stopped once Carr wasn't around, maybe the connection he had with Juiston was the only thing going for us

Pretty sure Carr was still on staff in May.

Here is my opinion: Juiston was never coming here. The only place in the world where Juiston to URI was taken seriously was on this message board. It wouldn't have mattered if Carr stayed or went, it wouldn't have mattered if one of the other coaches recruited him instead of Carr, for whatever reason we were never a serious option for Juiston. I think we liked him a lot and would have loved to have him, but it does not seem the interest was ever reciprocated. And in recruiting if a kid isn't interested in your school there isn't anything you can really do about it.
I don't think there is much of a point discussing it now or blaming this coach or that coach or the approach the staff took. This isn't like Gustys where if we decided we wanted him he would almost definitely be here; in this case we wanted the player but couldn't get him to give us a look.

Carr was technically on staff, but was ousted shortly after the final 4 in April. And he was definitely the lead on this recruitment as he was the lead on all Juco recruiting. Also the Jersey connection was strong there.
Hard to say for sure, but when Carr knew he wouldn't be with the program, hard to imagine he'd say pleasantries about us to any recruits.

Agree with those that say this is the missing piece for our team this year
Also agree with TP I don't think we had much of a shot to land him

Juiston with 13 points and 18 rebounds in win over Eastern Washington last night. Hitting the ground running at UNLV.

I think it’s completely reasonable for people to project how good a player is based on a few games against sub par competition.
I’m excited for Onyekaba’s number retirement ceremony in a few weeks.
Had a hell of a career averaging 21 and 10 in all those games we played against Maine.

I’m only sad we missed here Becuase I think the amount of Tupac signs for 4 years would have been fun

Shakur Juiston with 30 pts and 12 reb last night. Averaging 15/11 plus 2.6 Assists. He is pretty good.

I think a few of these UNLV “transfers” could return with the right coaching hire.
I think they’re up to at least 4 transfers, including Juiston and Ntambwe.

They were talking on radio bad teams have no shot to keep good players that fall through the rankings and turn out good like a Brandon Clark of Zags started as unheralded recruit to San Jose St then does well there and transfers to a top 10 team

Re: '17 JUCO PF - Shakur Juiston (UNLV)
On the one hand I am all for giving the players more power. Not an economics expert but I'd think any better than a bench player is making much more money for the school than the scholarship they are provided at a mid-major or higher program. All while their coaches get financial security for life. So if they want more exposure, by all means...
However based on the NCAA system as a whole, to equate it with pro sports, is like Major League Baseball just before the salary cap rules when the Yankees were spending $180 million and the A's were spending $20 million on payroll. The Yankees are a P5 school in this comparison and the A's are a low to mid-major. Even the superior management of the A's only typically got them to the 1st round of the playoffs due to all the other disadvantages.
