Re: 2/26 | George Washington | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
A few observations from this game. (So much better commenting when we win.)
1) Cox made his adjustments. Give him credit for that. I love the fact that he called a number of set plays. This can sometimes jumpstart an offense that is sputtering.
2) I may get chastised for saying this… But when teams play zone against URI, I like Fatts at the point. Growing up we used to slot our best play maker at the free throw line and run the offense through him. This forces zones to focus internally instead of externally. Cox moved Dowtin into that position a number of times and the offense ran smoothly. I also think Fatts ability to break down defenses could help open up the offense for CL and Harris.
3) Shooting... 54% from the field, 48% from three!! WHAT?! Love it. If we continue to have that type of offensive efficiency, I wouldn’t want to play us in the tournament.
Gotta keep up this intensity and focus on the continuing the momentum. Go Rhody.

Congrats to Ryan Preston for leaving it all behind and contributing to this win with some nice jump shooting . Hope he can get some more minutes.
would love to see Omar get more time . He is smooth and confident . A team win, everybody contributed . Nice shooting for a change. Has some
pressure been lifted off of their shoulders ? they have been a different team the past two games now . I like this team we are seeing. If they
play well at Dayton they could be a surprise force in the A 10 tournament because they have nothing to lose.

Much better effort the last couple of games. Also, we actually do have some guys who can shoot the ball. It's much easier to shoot the ball confidently when you're up by 10 instead of being down by 10. Confidence can do wonders. No, we're not a team of great shooters. But we're not as bad as we've been most of the year either. Nice to see the kids have some fun too.

The Dayton game is going to get this board back in the sewer. That’s going to be a tough one. The UMass game will be a win. The rubber game is the at St Joe game. If they win that one, I will be pretty happy.
It’s crazy to look at the standings and think a month ago we put Bonnies in our pocket like it was nothing, now they are tied for a double bye and we are fighting to stay out of the bottom 4.

Our record is firmly the result of the unbalanced schedule- still think we are in the 5-8 range in this league this year if all things were equal.TruePoint wrote: ↑5 years ago The Dayton game is going to get this board back in the sewer. Every time Harris goes to the bench, I’ve noticed that he sits with his left knee extended and has either a heating pad or cold pack on it. I question how healthy he is and if that’s why his minutes are what they are.

Pleasantly surprised after this one. Good to see.
They are capable of playing well even though GW is crap.
Maybe all is not lost after all lol. Can they carry this new found confidence over to the road?
Harris must have a season long issue with his knee...maybe it's tendinitis?
If it's more than that, maybe he gets it worked on over the offseason. Could definitely be the reason he doesn't have much hops.

I haven’t had a chance to look up the breakdown from last nights game - but did anyone come across the usage rates?
Looked like Jeff was finally back on the ball primarily.
Not saying that was what worked, because we shot the lights out, but that was closer to what I think is best for he team moving forward.

SmaryBarrett's percentages say otherwise, but the first thing I noticed on the eye test that it seemed early on that Dowtin was handling it more in the first 5 mins. Then it switched. I think it switched a few times, which if you're going to insist on this, switching every few minutes is probably a good idea.Blue Man wrote: ↑5 years ago I haven’t had a chance to look up the breakdown from last nights game - but did anyone come across the usage rates?

They actually had a good stretch in the first half with JD on the bench, Fatts at the point and Silverio as the 2 guard. I believe Silverio had 5 quick points in those few mins.

it's amazing after a loss we have 8-9 pages worth of posts, but after a win only 3.

People tend to love to remind folks why they are miserable....over...and...over....and...OVER again. Ad nauseum.
There is no doubt in my mind that if the KB coaches walked the sideline with their definitive pre and post game philosophies and takes, we’d be 27-0.

Re: 2/26 | George Washington | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
This is my thought, too. They have two good ballhandlers, and if guys are moving and the offense is fluid, who is 'running point' is overrated. Obviously, same goes for when there's little-to-no movement on offense. In that situation, Jason Kidd at PG wouldn't make a difference.steviep123 wrote: ↑5 years agoSmaryBarrett's percentages say otherwise, but the first thing I noticed on the eye test that it seemed early on that Dowtin was handling it more in the first 5 mins. Re: 2/26 | George Washington | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
There is normally no point guard designated when running a high post set. Again, I believe Jeff should shoot 8/10 three balls per night to hopefully yield 10/12 points as it did last night. Against a team like Dayton that probably can’t happen unless he is off the ball in any scheme we run. We will need screens to get the shots against a aggressive athletic defense vs the lousy/ lazy defense we faced last night. GW weakness aside I thought we made huge progress, I was very encouraged.
It starting to be clear to me that Cox does not value the point guard designation with this group. It was very important with Hurley’s zone offense sets which relied heavily on ball handling and dribble drive. Kind of odd for a ex point guard but he might be adjusting his offense to address the strengths/weaknesses of this group. If so that’s the high level coaching we were hoping for!
We will learn a lot tomorrow night methinks! Let’s hope for some good shooting - if we get that along with max effort I think we can hang around.
