Gm 8 Football vs William & Mary 12pm Sat Oct 27 CAA.TV

Unread post by RhowdyRam02 »

Those that track my posts know I'm not a big fan of the term "must win game", I think it's overused and is just a boring, inaccurate description of an important game. However Saturday may in fact be a must win game. Here's a look at our remaining schedule:

vs. William and Mary
at #6/8 Elon
at #3 James Madison
vs. New Hampshire

Those two games on the road look like unlikely wins at this point and we need to go 2-2 for our first winning season since 2001. If we win both home games and one road game we have a shot at the playoffs and we need to win out to pretty much guarantee a playoff spot.

William and Mary is 3-4 on the season, 2-2 in conference in Jimmye Laycock's 39th and final season as head coach at W & M. They are coming off of a 27-20 Homecoming win vs. Maine. They also won a close one vs. Albany, got trounced by James Madison and also lost to Towson.

Will Lawson come back to play this weekend? Will some of our other injured players return? Can we right the ship? Is William & Mary capable of a road win in conference? Would I be better off binging on Red Dead Redemption 2 all day instead of paying any attention to this game? If we want a winning season at the very least, we almost definitely need to win Saturday.

Rhody can win.
1.Need some playas off IR.
2. Or at home and play better.

This weekend against William and Mary is definitely a winnable game with or without Lawson. W&M is riding high right now after that win against Maine, but I still see them as an inferior opponent.
UNH at home is another good chance for a victory. The two road games are going to be extremely difficult even with Lawson behind center. Both good opponents, and like Hal has mentioned we are banged up.

I am not thinking playoffs right now. I would like to just end this season strong. The boys deserve to be over .500. I think that should be the focus.
Fingers crossed Lawson can come back healthy.

I dont think we have any more "must win" games. The must win game was vs Maine, right now a winning record would be a great achievement.
The only realistic chance to play in the post season is to run the table, w/o Lawson that isn't likely to happen.

As I went over before, 3-1 puts us square on the bubble, every year CAA teams have gotten into the playoffs with that record, but every year at least one team has been left out with that record.

I think we'd have a pretty compelling case to bring to the selection committee if we go 3-1 the rest of the way. Using today's rankings, we'd have beaten the #21 team on the road, went toe to toe with an FBS school on the road, had the lead in the final minute against #24/NR playing our back up QB, and had at least one win on the road against a top 8 team.

That's the optimistic view. The more realistic view is yes, the goal is a winning season, which means the two home games are almost must wins, because those road games are likely losses.

Ryan Center had something about the game ten minutes ago. Not sure why the game wouldn't be on, just have to do our best in the conditions

Crazy game so far. Terrible conditions. Reminds me of the UMass game maybe 10 years back?
URI starts the game with an interception, that is ripped out of Javier-Castillo's hands and ran back 75 yards for a touchdown. Since that point, we've created 3 more turnovers, including a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Naim Jones has done a good job of moving the chains.
Does Lawson have a red shirt season? If he doesn't play again this year, does he qualify for another season next year?

Wish we could have punched it in there at the end, but good bounce back win for Rhody. Much needed.

Solid effort in a hurricane today with minimal fan support (I don’t blame them). 5-3 on to Elon.

Key was 6 turnovers for W&M and only 1 for us and even that was on an interception by Javier-Castillo that the opponent just grabbed out of his arms and made top 10 plays.
No Turnovers for our offense in horrible conditions!
