URI Football is ranked #25 in the STATS FCS Football Poll for Week 2:

Rhody is an athletic powerhouse all of a sudden. Golf also had a great weekend, winning the St. John’s tournament at Bethpage, which was won by Florida State last year.

Will we remain ranked? The way we never folded up against Connecticut, we just kept coming at them, a lot of fun watching this game. Lawson is really good and playing very smart football. I hope a one score loss to a 1a with a chance to tie on the last play of the game is enough to keep us in the rankings even ascend a spot or two.

It is time for ATP to do the same for the soccer team as this thread is for Football. It is great that we have two sports that are nationally ranked. Soccer is 6-0 and is the only team in the country that is kicking a shutout. They are ranked in the top D1 division. Victories over teams like Penn State, BU and PC are very impressive.
Hopefully both teams can continue their winning ways. Lets tread them the same with both having a tread in our major site area.

You think pollsters are not going to notice beating Harvard at home with backup QB?
If some teams lose in front of Rhody,it's very possible they make a jump.
Harvard is perennial top FCS program-top 15 or 20,maybe higher?
Rhody beat a team with NFL players on it last night.
Still,much room for improvement.

Yes I’m sure pollsters will acknowledge that we beat them without Lawson, but still think us whipping them 31-10 with Lawson would have jumped us up the polls more. And I do believe with lawson that game would have turned into a blowout. While historically Harvard is a powerful program that team last night didn’t impress me. Their QB was very mediocre, his 2 INTs were basically gifts to us and I don’t think he completed a pass over 10 yards all game. They did seem to have a stout D line tho, we really struggled running the ball and creating holes. That said, when Lawson went out we became much more predictable.

I think you're supposed to use the one that ranks your team the highest.

So here's a question; does being #15 nationally in FCS mean URI is 15 spots from being as good as an FBS team or could they compete with lower tier FBS teams like UCONN on a regular basis?

Didn’t we already prove that? Every year good FCS teams beat lousy FBS teams.

They could at least compete against lower tier with what we have now.

If uconn doesn't have Pindell I think we win that going away.

That is the thing though, with FBS schools, you might be on the same level in most aspects, but they'll have one or two exceptional players that are just way better than everyone on an FBS team and that'll be the difference.

With Pindell it was so hard for us to handle his dual threat abilities. He was just a lot more athletic than everyone on our defense.

The CAA is as close as you get to FBS in the FCS.

Our offense sure looks good enough to compete against a lot of what the FBS has to offer.

Our wideout talent is crazy.

I would think this was expected given the back to back losses, especially with the last being a blowout.
