I've seen this graphic thrown around for a few years. I think it was part of a conceptual marketing study. I personally think its a bit too detailed and looks very similar to VCU. I am though in favor of a new Ram logo to use besides the "RI".

I like the old Ram.
We don't really need a new Ram logo.
We never really call ourselves Rams much.
People say go Rhody far more than they say go Rams, so I mean keep the interlocking RI and whip out the old Ram for the tradition every now and then.

Agreed. I don't want to end up like Uconn and replace a classic logo with some generic contemporary animal logo. So dumb

Uconns had such a great mascot animal, but it looks like a stuffed animal. I love the ram, URI should make it a bold marketing aspect again. Everyone does letters, no originality.

Locally it is a good logo, but the problem with it is brand ID with the rest of the country. A lot more people in the rest of the country will be able quickly identify the interlocked "RI" as being associated with the University of Rhode Island than the ram head logo. But the ram head logo is definitely cooler, nicer, better looking, etc.

While I definitely don't disagree, this logo needs a refresh of some sort. That drop shadow font is cringeworthy... looks like a Powerpoint presentation on Windows 95. Maybe keep the ram and redesign the graphic around it.
