Puma

Think Big - We Do! Rhody should sign on with Puma today. Be the first college basketball program in the portfolio and demand as part of that contract that Jay-z attend 3 home games per year.

I don’t know how much our Addidas sponsorship really helps in recruiting now anyways so we can probably not take a hit there. Plus projected #1 pick going Puma.

Aren't we still signed up with Adidas for all of our sports programs?

I wouldn't do anything to burn bridges with them.

Big entry into the hoops game from Puma...to be clear Jay-Z was the big get. Signing Ayton and Bagley wont move the needle, big men dont sell sneakers. Rumblings that they are trying to steal Harden from Adidas, that would be a game changer. Rihanna and J.Cole are both part of Roc Nation (Jay-Zs management company) and already in business with Puma so this was a big extension of that existing relationship. TIme will tell what comes of this, sneaker game is unbelievably competitive. Remember just 2-3 years ago Under Armour was on top of the world with Steph as their flagship athlete and since then they have taken a major step backwards and their stock price is in shambles. Will take more than some splashy headlines and 2 athletes to unseat Nike and Adidas.

The problem I would see with signing with Puma has nothing to do with gear and everything to do with AAU recruiting pipelines. Sure, if you’re an adidas school you can recruit kids from Nike programs and vice versa, but it is helpful to have the connections into the grassroots. I know Puma has stated its intentions to get into CBB, but if it’s me I’m trying to get into the second wave so I can see what they develop in terms of grassroots programs and to make sure their level of commitment is real and, yes, that the basketball gear they put out is legit and kids like it (or at least don’t hate it). Nike and adidas are safe, we will also never be their premier program.

Funny beef going on bc Nike sponsored Bagley’s fathers AAU team and supposedly got them into Peach Jam even tho they didn’t deserve it. Obvi the unsaid part was that payback would come in form of Bagley signing with Nike when he turned pro. They ain’t too happy.

Currious to know what the sneakers are because I can't find any real PUMA basketball sneakers currently sold.
