Had to come here to comment as I’m extremely jealous you now have a player named Omar. If you don’t have the student section whistling farmer in the dell after he makes a big play I will be disappointed.
Got a great player FYI

How does Omar’s game compare to Brendan Adam’s?

I'm told from some AAU folks in NYC that the kid can really shoot it. Good get.

Polar opposites. Omar can shoot it, Brendan is an attacker.Rhody74 wrote:How does Omar’s game compare to Brendan Adam’s?

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio (URI Commit)
Also to add, New Heights is probably the top 1-2 AAU programs in NYC and St Ray's is one of the few best catholic schools in the city. I always like getting kids from successful programs that are used to big time competition.

Pretty good stats in a tough UAA league. Went off for 19 again DC (Harris's team)

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio (URI Commit)
In no way am I bashing Brendan Adam's or saying he is not good because I think he is a good player. But imo I think this kid is a better fit for the pieces we already have. Jeff is best with his driving ability...midrange jumper...and kick outs. Fatts quickness getting to the rim and driving ability and pull up game from mid range and three. Jermaine and Dana can shoot the three but are best heading down hill to the rim and dominating mid range to in close. Omar gives us that spot up shooting from deep with a little range that we so desperately need when Jeff and fatts are driving and kick it out for an open three. He will help space the floor for others that are so good at driving to the middle and could help give more space. Also think he can help stretch the zone a little because you have to respect his 3 pointer. Not bad nearly shooting 40% in UA aau. Extremely excited for the next few years.

Will be fun to look back at this in four years and compare the college careers of Omar Silverio, Brendan Adams and Amir Harris.
Remember when EC and Jon Severe visited the same weekend and look how different those college careers went. Of course, EC was more highly touted but you never know how these recruits will really shake out until you get them on campus and on the court.

Did someone say “shooter?” That’s all I needed to hear. Please tell me he can make free throws too.

Surprisingly poor free-throw shooter! AAU records posted earlier here showing only about 50%. Looking at his shot that doesn't make sense.

If you had to explain to someone how sports message boards on the internet are (and what an awful task that would be), it’s kind of all there on the first page of Omar’s thread. It’s so good.

Ace, after your comment I decided to reread the whole thread. I get the feeling if Brendan had stuck with us Omar might have ended up with UConn. Funny how recruiting develops.ace wrote:If you had to explain to someone how sports message boards on the internet are (and what an awful task that would be), it’s kind of all there on the first page of Omar’s thread. We may be slightly young next year, but damn we have some talent on the team. Love Dana. What an ambassador for the team. Gonna be fun next year. Let's get it.

It might just be semantics, but I would say they’re inexperienced but not necessarily young (2-4-2-4 by class). The freshmen are solid players and super confident. Hope they can weather the ups and downs of freshmen year.

Little surprised he wasn’t ranked in the top 250 in 247 sports updated rankings today. All of our other three incoming recruits moved significantly up in the rankings which was great to see.

URI could have his brother any time they wanted.

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio (URI Commit)
Omar is a great example of how screwed up the rating sites are.
He ranges from a no star unrated player to a 3 star future 150 player
and everything in between. Looking at the available film on him
he should be a solid 3 star. On film He made some really nice passes
and has a smooth effortless release out to the 3 point line.
He looks like he will be a great add as a zone buster
for us and perfect for the kick out from Fatts and JD, and
playing in NYC against stiff competition I think his learning
curve is going to be minimal.
Great get by coach Cox.

Re: '18 NY G - Omar Silverio (URI Signed LOI)
URI’s summer session 1 starts on Monday. I had assumed the incoming frosh would all be starting summer session 2 in June because I didn’t think they’d be done with HS yet, but looks like Omar is coming for the first session? Anyone know if anyone else will be starting their URI journey on Monday?
