Davis had URI two spots better than the poll had them (#20 vs #22) last week and one spot better the previous week (#23 vs #24). If that is the case this week, Rhody would be either #17 or #18. I would be pleased with that as my desire is to see a ranking below #20.

Can you believe we're quibbling over whether or not we'll be ranked above #20? I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be talking this way during the Barren Years.

Re: Rhody and A10 in the Top 25 Polls: 2017-18
It will have to be the highest ranked we have been at this point in the season in god knows forever....another milestone in a season of many firsts.
And yes, the # matters, and let's ride that for as long as we can. Bonaventure will really be our last and only shot at a needle moving win, everything else will be a landmine.

The remaining regular season games look like they will fall into either Quadrant 3 or Quadrant 4, with the exception of the @Bona game (Quadrant 1) and the @Davidson game (Quadrant 2).bigappleram wrote:Bonaventure will really be our last and only shot at a needle moving win, everything else will be a landmine.
Games left to play current current RPI forecast RPI RPI Opponent Date / Time Quadrant Quadrant ------- -------- ----------------- -------- --------------

so, to re-phrase your statement a bit:
Bonaventure (and to a lesser extent the away game at Davidson) will really be our last shot at a needle moving win, everything else is a potential landmine.

"Yes, the Rams are top-10 good -- hey, everyone else is losing and the Rams are not. So give it up for the boys from Kingston. The Rams are playing like champions, finding a way to win. They are the hunted this season. And every A-10 team sees the Rams as a game to define their season. Davidson should be the next victim this week after the Rams swept road games at UMass and VCU."

If we beat Davidson on Friday, I think we will be ranked for the rest of the season. If we get up another spot or two, I think we could withstand a loss and remain ranked.

If we win against Davidson Friday and Richmond on Tuesday, it will be very interesting to see if we crack the NCAA Top 16 that is released next Wednesday.

Rhody is ranked #18 nationally.
That is truly GREAT news!
Now, what is the marketing plan coming out of Kingston to take advantage of this national ranking?
For example, when are we going to start seeing #GoRhody messages on the RIDOT electronic message boards as we drive along Rhode Island roads?
When are we going to see posters of Andre Berry and Fatts Russell in T. F. Green Airport?
When does URI get a nationally ranked marketing program to go along with the nationally ranked basketball team ?

Couldn't agree more. Also, we need to move our student section from being behind the basket back to the 100s sideline. The students pump up the crowd, and although Blue Man tries his best every game to get the crowd into the game, the students need to lead by example. Our energy level needs to increase in the home games all game, not just at the end.Native wrote:Rhody is ranked #18 nationally.

It is an ideal time to improve school/program BRANDING. Can be done at little cost. No promotion or advertising is needed to sell tickets this year with only four games left with each looking good to sell out.

I looked at KMAC's voting specifically with respect to these schools.
He has every single one of these schools ranked lower than their actual position in the overall poll, EXCEPT for the two big east schools, which he had at the same spot as the overall poll.
Pretty telling.

If that is truly the case, shouldn't he then also over value URI for being undefeated versus that league? URI is 2-0 versus two of its better teams.

Re: Rhody and A10 in the Top 25 Polls: 2017-18
I feel like you're not really getting my point. I have no issue with where he ranks the Big East teams - he actually ranks them exactly the same as overall poll, so not much to argue with there. My issue is that he ranked each of the other non P5 schools lower than their actual rank in the overall poll, not that he ranked them lower than the Big East schools. You would expect that any voter will have some variance with the overall poll, but you'd also expect that variance to be spread around rather evenly if it weren't related to a bias. Being low on every single one of these schools (non-P5, non-Big East) is evidence of a consistent bias against non-P5 teams and is revealing of how he sees the college basketball world. That point really has almost nothing to do with the Big East.Paleoguy wrote:Maybe he's giving Big East schools a bonus for being ranked #1 in league RPI....TruePoint wrote:Just a follow-up on this:TruePoint wrote:Also interesting that roughly a third (8 of 25) of the top-25 is from non-P5.

Re: Rhody and A10 in the Top 25 Polls: 2017-18
He has Cincinnati in the same spot they ended up. Wichita St shouldn't even be in the top 25. St Mary's and Gonzaga seems overrated in the polls right now. He might have a bias but I don't think he's that wrong, look at where some of the bracketologists have those teams right now. Bracketville who has been the best recently has Wichita St - 8, St Mary's - 6, Gonzaga - 5, URI - 5.TruePoint wrote:I feel like you're not really getting my point. Last 5 Weeks with URI Playing 2 A10 Opponents per Week URI has risen in the AP Poll this number of places respectively: 6,3,3,2,4 for an average of 3.6 spots per week. The last 4 weeks have averaged 3.0 spots per week
URI has now risen 8 consecutive weeks from a low of #45 on December 11th to the current high of #18
Clearly the key is to keep winning. Some believed that the weakness of the Atlantic 10 this year would hold URI back but winning is driving the climb even when the week consists of lower level A10 opponents. The graph is quite steady - as long as we win or course.
Just win baby!

The A10's weakness is and will hold URI back as it draws down our metrics, but it has allowed for an unprecedented streak in the modern era for the team. Throw in just one A10 loss in this streak and I don't know if we'd still be ranked.
