Andy Katz doing some nice work here, explaining exactly how the new NCAA Team Sheets will work. We all have to stop talkin' Top 25, Top 50, Top 100 and start talkin' Class/Quadrant 1, 2, 3, 4.

The breakdown will be as follows:
Quadrant 1: Home 1-30; Neutral 1-50; Away 1-75
Quadrant 2: Home 31-75; Neutral 51-100; Away 76-135
Quadrant 3: Home 76-160; Neutral 101-200; Away 136-240
Quadrant 4: Home 161-plus; Neutral 201-plus; Away 241-plus.

I like those changes. It'll make the Syracuses of the world think about playing away nonconference games for once.

So the PC win a Q2 and the other top 4 OOC games were Q1.

Using RPI forecast, we're 1-2 in quadrant 1 games, 1-0 in quadrant 2, 1-0 in quadrant 3, and 2-0 in quadrant 4.

We have two more quadrant 1 games, at Alabama and at St. Bonaventure.

6th seed in our dreams......we win our last 3 OOC games....then rip thru the A10 at like 16-2....then win the A10's....

Possible? Yes.

Likely? No.

Atlantic 10: This one hurts, but the reality is the A-10 is going to need some good fortune to avoid being a one-bid league for the first time since 2006. Rhode Island is very good, but NCAA regulars VCU and especially Dayton are subpar this season, and NCAA hopefuls St. Bonaventure and especially Saint Joseph's have been thwarted by injuries. The Bonnies are on the rebound, but the bottom half of the conference isn't lifting anyone else to likely at-large consideration.
Projection: With at least three bids (and as many as six) for the past decade, it's going to be a sad Selection Sunday for Atlantic 10 fans. Someone will need to knock off URI at the conference tournament to keep the league's multibid streak alive.

Everything happened so fast. SLU tanked. Temple and Xavier jumped ship.

Dayton was bad before Miller and is bad after him.

This league is killing me.

step off the ledge Chicken Little. Dayton will be fine, its year 1 of a coach, the transition year is always rough.

Temple and X jumping arent what hurt. The big hurt was Butler bailing after only 2 years. the A10 was certainly one of the losers in the big conference realignment.

it also doesn't help that George Mason has struggled since joining when they were expected to be like VCU for us.

The A10 is still in that 3 conference group (A10, Big East, AAC) of the "would be called a major conference if the P5 mentality stayed in football"

Slight correction:

Butler was in the A-10 for all of just ONE year (2012-13 season). The Butler men's basketball WIKI page doesn't even have a single reference that it ever was associated with the A-10. Reading it makes it appear they went directly from the Horizon to the new Big East.

Before Miller's run to the elite eight the previous 10 years Dayton went to the dance twice. That's like the Bonnie's past 10 years. Dayton is now 4-5. I know a lot of people show up for them and they make money. But without the Miller regime who knows what you will get. Look at SLU without Majerus

Butler? Did you start following the A10 in 2013? They played one year.

Xavier has danced 15/17 years since 2000. 3 elite eight appearances and 4 Sweet Sixteens. Losing Xavier didn't hurt? Losing them would hurt ANY league.

Temple made the dance the last 6 years they were in the A10. You could call that good.

The latest bracket from the most accurate prognosticator of late came out this morning:

https://bracketville.wordpress.com/bracketology/

URI is an 8 seed in Pittsburgh taking on NC State for the right to play Villanova

Seton Hall is a four seed. Virginia is a five. Alabama is an 8. Nevada is a 9. UNC Asheville is a 15.

PC is listed as fourth out.

In all three brackets he's released we've been in Pittsburgh and most likely taking on Villanova if we won. In the 12/1 bracket we were also an 8 but taking on Oklahoma. In the 11/4 bracket we were a 7 taking on Oregon to play the winner of Villanova and UNC Asheville

Not that I'm a fan of the 8/9seed, but it would be great to meet and beat Villanova in the dance to advance to the Sweet 16.

Joey Brackets has us as a 9 seed playing Florida and St Bonaventure as a 10 seed playing Notre Dame. With him having URI as winning the conference, SBU is getting a 10 seed At Large in the latest bracket.

which is why losing Butler hurt Sherlock. Butler was brought in to replace the loss of X and Temple and at the time was fresh off of back to back Championship game appearances (FAR beyond what X or Temple had done in the last decade). It was essentially losing 2 but getting 1.5 back.

When Butler jumped after 1 year there was no back up plan because it couldnt be planned for.

I thought VCU was brought in to replace Temple. And X and Butler both left at the same time for the nBE. Then we added Davidson and George Mason.

Butler. You mean Brad Stevens. Butler isn't exactly contending for National Titles. Back to who we thought they were.

I think youre just a Butler fan. Who is the current A10 with Butler? A strong Horizon League.

The bracket matrix is updated with picks for the NCAA Tournament throughout the year. While it really is just a crapshoot at this point with only about 40 percent of the season played, Rhody is picked by 29 of the 32 current brackets. Keep in mind that, similar to Lunardi, many (8) have URI as the A-10 automatic bid rep as it has the best Rpi in the league.

Maybe it's good to have two top 50 wins in the non conference instead of one like last year? Maybe I'm wrong.... Hopefully PC keeps losing so we lose our second top 50 win which would probably affect our seeding and rpi.

RPI Forecast has PC finishing 17-14. Looking at their schedule that looks accurate (maybe 16-15). What seed will they get in the NIT?

I’d prefer PC stay a fringe bubble team all year and get into the first four and lose. We get a better seed as a result and win multiple games while they watch from home.

How does a URI fan rooting against PC be to URI’s detriment?

Will my rooting against PC tonight vs Marquette cause the game to tilt towards a Marquette win? Maybe if I am in the dunk booing PC or screaming when a Friar goes to the FT line but I don’t plan to be in the Dunk building, I prefer the Ryan Center tonight.

Simply put (and I think you know this), the best thing for URI right now if for PC to have success in the remainder of the season, our conference is awful and we will not have many opportunities to improve our resume. Having PC do well will only make our win look better come tournament time, if not to get into the tournament, then to improve our seed. Living out of state, I dont have that vitriolic attitude towards everything pc, but its easy to see why their fan base views us the way they do.

This is probably a lot easier for me to do because I don't live in RI, so I have to purposely look for news on either URI or PC. I have zero interest in how PC (or any other team) does other than they do against URI. I root for URI every game, obviously, and my only interest in PC is in URI beating them in December. Other than that game, I couldn't care less what PC does.

steviep...I hope you understand that the better our competition does when they are not playing URI, that looks better for us in March. I wouldn't expect that you would root for other schools, read up on them, or even check their scores. But I don't understand why you "couldn't care less". If you are a URI fan and want them to not only be playing in March, but also to have a good seeding so they have a reasonable chance to make a run, you should hope our OOC opponents do well in their own conferences which in turn betters our tourney resume.

It is really very simple we want every team that we beat to win after they play us...we also want every team that we beat to win after they play us...this is what helps to get bids....

These are not URI fans Blue Man. If they were they wouldn't be rooting against PC to URI's detriment.

Just reposting this response from another thread because it fits:

I’m certainly not saying that rooting for or against a team means you’ll sway the game...I am merely pointing out the absurdity of rooting against your interests.

Since most on this board are URI fans, I would think the goal would be to see URI do as best they can when it comes to the NCAA tournament.

Since we have a top rate coach, making the tournament isn’t good enough any more. The goal is to advance to the second weekend.

The higher our RPI and the more quality wins we have, the better our seeding will be.

The better our seeding, the more favorable of a matchup we will have in early round games.

The more favorable of a first/second round matchup, the more likely we will make it to the second weekend.

Considering the fact that we have a realistic shot of said preferential seeding, in a bracket that happens to hold those second weekend games in boston this year...I would assume everyone would be rooting for that outcome.

The fact that all people can see is PC losing a game and don’t understand how that affects our team baffles me.

I think it’s either an educational point for the posters who may not understand how RPI rankings work/affect our NCAA tournament experience...or a hypocrisy worth pointing out.
