Yeah let's draw arbitrary lines in the sand about who we will play and where to protect our "self esteem" rather than try to put the best schedule together possible.

URI has to approach scheduling like guerillas. I'm not sure what about our recent scheduling would give someone the impression that we are in a position to be exceptionally choosy and demanding. What we need are opportunities to win games that will be notches in our belt come selection sunday.

If it's a home and home with WVU at Ryan and there I would classify that as big news and would be excited about that

Rod would definitely take the time to remind us of Harrick’s “play anyone anywhere” approach.

Go and get the games. Doesn’t matter where.

If the game is at Mohegan, it will be counted as a neutral court game and the win will boost our RPI more than if it was a true home game.

First I am not sure if the Big News Forthcoming Secret is about the Home and Home Series. This is speculation since we do not know for sure from birdmanjrjr...even after all this time. Was it the Diamond Head Classic? Was it the Home and Home Series? Was it something else? Who knows since it is a secret

If it is the Home and Home and our "Home" is at the Mohegan Sun then I am not so excited about it. I like the rumored opponent but the Mohegan Sun will likely have fewer people in attendance than if it was at the Ryan Center. Maybe we should consider going back to the Dunk where we could pack in 13,000 as in the Harrick and Skinner days.

But in the end I trust Dan Hurley and staff to get the best possible schedule together that favors us to make the NCAA Dance

I liked the Iona, Charleston, Nevada and FGSU Games. All power teams from their respective conferences. It's a struggle to get P5 teams in so getting premier teams from their leagues, that have a history and/or likelihood to make the dance makes sense to me.

Got to trust this guy Dan Hurley

Enjoy the ride

So I am as confused as ever with this...............

Is this about the Home-Home with a P5 Team in 2018 and 2019? And is this "home" game to be played at the Mohegan Sun?

Is this about the Diamond Head Classic just announced?

Is it possible that URI will play St Mary's on the West Coast prior to the Diamond Head Classic just as Princeton just did against USC?

Is it something else entirely?

Do I have to continue to wonder about this secret even into 2018? How far into 2018?

The big secret came out before Halloween, we passed Thanksgiving, about to pass Christmas, then New Year's Eve, then Ground Hogs Day - maybe we find out on April Fools Day?

If there is a big game at mohegan, it’s our job as fans to build the game up and get as many people there as possible. Mohegan being a great arena, great venue to go to with all that they offer, could draw more fans than the Ryan Center even holds. And as somebody noted above, it’s considered a neutral game so per the metrics will help us more than a home game.

If we can get games with a "perennial top 25ish program" and the Mohegan is our home venue, we take it, period. Sorry but the history from the 90's or whenever is simply not relevant.

Yep. Not a serious thing at all to me.I poke fun at this thread of secrecy more than anything.

As I said enjoy the ride just as I said last February. Let the season play out

Dan Hurley is taking this program steadily to levels not seen in a long time.

Recruiting, scheduling, game management, academics, team morale all good

Personally for the birdmanjrjr to instigate this thread and two months later nothing happening is kinda dumb

But to each his own

Would anybody but Blueram be disappointed with a West Virginia type opponent at Mohegan as our home game? Just curious since everybody else seems excited about this prospect but wanted to see who else might be disappointed by this if it were to indeed happen?

Everyone does realize what a bunch of assclowns WV was during their time in the A10, right? How they disparaged the league and felt they were above being in the A10? And to legitimize that with a "home" game on a neutral court?

Wow....had no internet at the house since Saturday...and I expected to come back here today and finally be able to see what the "big news" was....(said no one). What a surprise, not a chirp...

I do think any time they can get a game with a quality opponent, while the Ry would be optimal, Mohegan is a GREAT choice... Seems a lot of people like going there, they've got a lot to offer (like, um...restaurants and (quality) beer in seats for starters), might be easier to get 'potential' and 'fringe' fans to go...no reason there couldn't be buseS from campus....

100% agree about Mohegan, maybe somehow add this into the season ticket package would be nice. Mohegan must not charge much or anything on rent since they make so much money on other revenue streams with that many people come to the casino for a game.

Four games vs. West Virginia stick out:

1. 1988 A10 Semi Finals
2. 1991/1992 early season win at the WVU coliseum
3. Late season blow out win at Keaney in 1992 - the lights went out in Keaney with URI up 10-7 early. After the lights came back on, Rhody knocked the lights out.
4. (One of my favorite games of all time), URI beating WVU 108-103 in a 3OT thriller in 1994. Carlos Coffield hit a 30 footer at the buzzer to send it to double OT!

This thread has had a negative effect on me. I'm relating scheduling news to this ridiculous thread that Hurley is a god for Big News that we have no idea about. So I am being negative about things being announced since I have put into my own mind what would be huge news and comparing that to announcements being made.. Which is wrong. But I still feel WV does not deserve a neutral home game from us. If that said rumour is true. And the Diamond Head Classic is a fine scheduling feat, but again I put the news up against Hurley is god, said by some birdbrain. So I'm done with this thread.

Don’t know for sure what the Big News was or is..............yet

But consider If in fact it was West Virginia related......results this week

#1 ranked Michigan State losing to unranked Ohio State by 18 with 5 minutes to go
#2 ranked Duke lost to NC State
#3 ranked Villanova lost to Butler
#4 ranked Arizona State lost to Arizona and Colorado and play at Utah tonight
#5 ranked Xavier lost to Rhode Island Red’s least favorite team
#6 ranked West Virginia defeated 7th ranked Oklahoma by 13 points
#7 ranked Oklahoma lost to 6th ranked WVU by 13
#8 ranked Virginia beat Virginia Tech by 26 and beat 12th ranked North Carolina by 12 points

Does that put next year opponent West Virginia and Bob Huggins at #1 this Monday?
Does this year’s URI opponent Virginia go to #1 or #2 this Monday?

Just looking at the schedule I think if we win our next 4 @ STL v Bona v UMass @ Dayton that gets us in the 26-30 range on the 1/22 poll
Then if we win @ Fordham and v Duquesne we enter the top 25 on the 1/29 poll at 17-3, 9-0

Jeff Borzello moved WVU up from #13 to #2 in just one week's time

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket ... yone-loses

West Virginia might be the hottest team in college basketball. The Mountaineers haven't lost since the season opener to Texas A&M, with 14 straight wins -- capped by Saturday's victory over Oklahoma. West Virginia now has high-level wins over Virginia and Oklahoma, as well as victories over Kansas State, Missouri and Oklahoma State away from home.

2. West Virginia Mountaineers
Record: 14-1
Last week: 13

Maybe we underrated the Mountaineers before last week, but we've rectified that -- and their win over Trae Young and Oklahoma helped in a big way. Jevon Carter is a legitimate All-American candidate, by the way. He's posed back-to-back 10-assist efforts, averaging 16.6 points on the season, and is the best defender in the country.

Rankings to be announced today will be interesting for West Virginia.

IF WVU goes up to #2 (as I think they will) it will be the Mountaineers highest ranking since they were No. 3 in December 1962.

In 1962 WVU was led by Rod Thorn who went on to be the 2nd pick in the 1963 NBA Draft by the Baltimore Bullets. Thorn made the NBA All Rookie team

Eventually Thorn went into Coaching. He Coached part of the season in 1975 with the ABA Spirit of St Louis. Marvin Barnes was on that team.
- In 1974-75 Barnes averaged 24 ppg and 15.6 rpg
- In 1975-76 Barnes averaged 24.1 ppg and 10.8 rpg
When Thorn went out half way through the season he was replaced by former PC Head Coach Joe Mullaney.

or confirm that the Big News Forthcoming is in fact about the West Virginia Home and Home Series. I think that is what it was all about but who knows. Assuming that is the case then I'd agree that it could be changed to West Virginia Updates.

Or you guys could just stop posting to it and making it such a big deal. There are already threads to discuss next years schedule and this years rankings. The only reason this thread keeps getting brought back up is because there are a few people that are way too worked up over a months old tweet.

your call,

if the "Big News Forthcoming" is in fact about West Virginia, then it would seem appropriate to post about West Virginia here, especially if the decision is to keep it open as you suggest. People don't want to read what is here then don't open it. Most of the posts have been BS anyway so no need to fear missing anything if one does not open it

Today's Monday AP and USA Today have West Virginia ranked #1 with Villanova ranked #1.

Highest ranking for URI Future opponent West Virginia in 45 years (They were #3 in 1962)

Of course it this is NOT the Big News Forthcoming then I apologize for posting about West Virginia, but to me this is pretty exciting.
