On paper, it might be. I remember '76 with Sly Williams and Jimmy Wright. Who else was with them? Silk and Tommy(although Tommy wasn't highly ranked, he almost played football at URI) in '84. Who else was with them? I have to think about this. The fact that we're probably going to get 5 very good players most likely makes it the best on paper.

The Tyson Wheeler, ARD class ('94)was pretty good as was the Jiggy Williamson, Stanley Wright, Wilds, Soares ('74). I go back to the early 70s. You'd have to ask Rod about the 60s, and maybe Neil for before that.

This ranks right up there imo but we'll see how it all pans outs over the next few years.....I do expect this to keep us on top of the A10 for a while.....

Will they all become good to great college players? Some will for sure I think. Hopefully all of them.

It's our best class, quantity has something to do with it. There were no rankings back in day so apples and oranges.

None of these kids are declare early potential, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Silk Owens came in with Garrick.
Kenny Green and John Evans came the following season.
1962 saw Steve Chubin, Denny McGovern and Frank Nightingale.
Two career 20 points a game scorers and a 3 year starting center.
As BAR said, the class size makes this cycle potentially the best
in modern times.
However, remember the Fab 5, under CFL, and all the hype, with McCoy, Powell, and some others who
nobody remembers?
Let's give the 2018 class room to grow, and take a deep breath, before we start on early
declaration stuff before they've played a single second here..

Agreed, Rod.

The one caveat about that “fab five” was that it was a lot of internal hype, certainly didn’t look like this.

I think on paper though, especially with Adams, it’s fair to say this is the best ever.

Also, wild that people were worried as recently as 3 weeks ago. What a difference a month makes.

Let's let these guys enjoy their college careers before we start trying to compare. URI has had a lot of recruiting classes with a couple of great college players. This should be fun next year a team with 13 A-10 level players on the roster. I am nowhere near ready to write off the two big Mike's recruited last year.

I misspoke. I really meant it wouldn't be unusual if all 5 didn't make through all 4 years of eligibility. Injury, transfer and, maybe, early declaration. But you're right, way too early to discuss that. My poi t was balancin classes will happen nsturally.

As we all have seen, classes get defined by what they do on the court so we all reserve judgement on this but as an incoming class and the "potential", this is easily the biggest and highest quality as perceived by outside "experts". The EC and Hassan class, was small at two but both were rivals top 150 recruits. If Adams commits, we'll have two rivals top 150 recruits again but 3 others just on the outside looking in.

If Rivals could re-rank then after one year in, last years freshmen class would of included Dowtin and potentially Cyril as top 150 freshmen so keep things kind of rankings in perspective.

Last note, as has been reported by sources close to the program, Dan has his own top 150 prospect list and only chases kids within that list. We clearly just landed 4 and potentially a 5th top 150 prospect in his eyes with this class and that's what matters most.

I think Baron's Fab 5 was a term coined on the Keaney Blue Board. I don't recall any sportswriter referring to Baron's Class as such.
The real Fab 5 was Michigan and it was amazing with all 5 Freshmen Top 100:
Chris Webber (#1)
Juwan Howard (#3)
Jalen Rose (#5)
Jimmy King (#9)
Ray Jackson (#84)

That said comparing an incoming class that has yet to go to class to classes that already completed their 4 years is truly apples to oranges. Good thread to revisit 4 years from now.

Yeah I believe it was entirely in jest.

Either way, no recruiting class rankings are ever revisited for accuracy. We’ve never been playing this game, so bringing in highly touted recruiting classes is new for us.

With an adams commit this will factually be the best recruiting class we ever had.

What they do later will speak for itself but you can’t take away the rankings for right now.

What's interesting about this class is the outside rankings of each player. Everybody has Harris as the headliner obviously. But the second highest ranked player depends on what source you read, Rivals says it's Adams. 247sports says it's Martin, and ESPN says it's Tate. Oh and Adam F clearly is a huge Amir Harris fan so there you have it, no weak links in this class.

People have to have a vision for a way forward with Hurley,Cox, and Moore sticking together to put the lockdown on top New England program and northeast program.

Gonzaga my ass. They have a national profile but they still play in Spokane. URI level success like that would look much different.

I wonder if Archie miller not having success at Indiana would effect Hurley down the road.

I think what is most important here, and possibly being overlooked; is what this class means for Hurley's tenure here.

Now that this is THE class for Dan, it goes beyond the great story of Hass and EC buying into Dan's vision for what they can build here. This is our shot at consistent and DEEP tourney runs 3 or 4 years from now.

For a guy on a quest to do nothing but win, it will be tough to find a better situation with his players and team that he could jump to and win in another place.

This class will mark the start of consistently good to great classes that will raise the standard of our expectations, and eliminate the talk of a "rebuilding year" from our vocabulary.

I think it's been widely established that Dan is different from your typical coach, hunting for the biggest payday at the highest profile school, and that family is important. He isn't jumping at any train out of town.

With this class in place however, I think it all but guarantees us another 4 years of Hurley - until he signs the next best class ever, and continues to build his program into a nationally recognized powerhouse.

So, they play in Spokane. It's as big as Providence.
We play in Kingston. A tiny town.

The fall-out from the current recruiting/shoe company/agent payola investigation may lead to a lot of major level job openings....we are not naive enough to think that if Hurley is perceived as being clean he will be in great demand....as well as Cooley....Cooley will be harder to pry loose because of his home-town status...
