Re: '18 KY PG - Anthony Nelson (Offer)
Go visit the Doherty thread. I'm the one who started it. Ok, so it was more than a week ago. But his visit was also quite a bit before anybody here knew about it. That's my point. We don't always know about visits before they happen or even when they are happening. Doherty was one that no one here knew about. Or if they did, they didn't post it.CT Rhody wrote:Found out about it a week ago? 247 sports had it posted on their site right after it happened. Oh don't get my posts twisted, not slandering the kid, I'm saying it's his "entourage". Most of the time when kids get taken advantage they don't even know it's happening, let's not be misguided here. It's unfortunate but the "green" handshake takes place left and right in high level athletics...RhowdyRam02 wrote:I'm not worried about the NCAA, I'm sure they're not going to investigate off of something on a message board. Also, I'd love to see this kid here. I was only sharing information from a very reliable source... the same one who told me Jarvis was definitely coming here when he was coaching in the prep ranks. My sources are always concrete solid, not slanderous...

Clemson basketball coach Brad Brownell has just one true point guard in his program in junior Shelton Mitchell so that’s a recruiting area for need for the 2018 class.
Wednesday the Tigers scouted South Kent, Conn., 5-foot-11 guard Anthony Nelson and the made him an offer. His offers also include West Virginia, Seton Hall, Cincinnati, Seton Hall and DePaul.
“Coach Brownell and Coach Dean both told me that they need a guard that can come in and make everybody better and also create for themselves,” Nelson said. “That’s where they told me I would fit in the program. I think Clemson is a good school and the ACC is a great conference to play in. to know that I might have a chance to play in that league is a good feeling.”
Nelson has not yet set an official visit to Clemson but he plans to do so. He will visit Dayton Sept. 22 and Seton Hall a week later.

Re: '18 KY PG - Anthony Nelson (Offer)
I don't know anything bout Dayton but some of my fathers friends are Seton Hall Alumni/booster types. Growing up i spent a decent amount of time around them and would often go to SH games as they were my favorite team as a kid in the early 90s for some reason.TruePoint wrote:Rough to include Dayton and SH in that group.Ramulous wrote:5 Schools willing to pay players agents to recruit....
Remember it usually only takes one guy in the Athletic department. Or, one big booster to corrupt the whole program. From what i've seen among those SH booster types and it would hardly surprise me if a few were wiling to go to those levels. I remember my one of my fathers friends, a SH season ticket holder of 20 years stop attending games for a few years after he heard something like this happened so SH could get a talented but super sketchy kid...Dunno if it ever became public or not.

For any and all flak that Cox gets, he is a flat out a recruiter, on multiple levels, tireless, hard working, always pounding the pavement. He's going to field a team if he has to will it into existence, give the guy a chance, and a break.

Re: '18 KY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
He has to be. We have 2 open scholarships and potentially 2 more shoes to drop!!!
He needs to fill at least one of the 2 scholarships and have some contingencies
if Fatts and JH leave as well. I don't envy him, but there needs to be some
introspection as to why this is happening. It's not all just the transfer rule
and poaching IMO.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
Give me Pridgen or Mack over this guy. What is so great about Nelson? Doesn’t shoot very good and accomplished very little up to this point. It isn’t like he came out of high school as a 4 star recruit. Some Seton Hall fans mentioned his work ethic also.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
Nelson was a very good high school player. He played a bunch at SHU. While Pridgen would be my first choice, Nelson is a close second. After seeing how long Mack’s rap sheet is, I’m inclined to pass.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
Nelson and Pridgen are two completely different types of players. Nelson is a big PG with a tight handle who thinks pass first.
Pridgen is wired to score. Mack is a ridiculous talent that may need a new start. That is a totally different assessment for the staff.
I trust their judgement.
A big part of determining top priority depends on what the staff feels is the biggest need. And there may be stuff we don't know.
If Fatts is leaving, Mack is a kid that could step right in and fill that void.
I'm just happy the staff is continuously looking at talented kids.

This kid might not be Mack in terms of the off court issues, but it looks like he has had his issues at Seton Hall with playing hard and practicing. Willard was barely playing Nelson at all at the end of the seasonDeanDome88 wrote: ↑4 years ago I like that our head coach has actually met this young man in person and that he is not a problem child.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
Pridgen is an undersized power forward
Nelson is a Point Guard
With only 8 scholarship players we are bit in an either/or position
I liked Nelson a lot in HS. Did not progress as much at Seton Hall as I thought he would. I wanted him 2 years ago. Still do.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
Interesting list
BYU, Long Beach State and Oregon State out West (Horace Greeley?)
Manhattan close to home
URI is the only school in his current Top 5 that recruited him as a HS Senior.
His brother played at a Richmond fwiw so he knows the A10
His Top 5 from 3 years ago: He visited Dayton back then
Dayton, Clemson, Seton Hall, Minnesota and West Virginia.
I hope he picks URI.

Seton Hall vs Maryland
#2 for Seton Hall with the yellow sneakers. Put up that left handed runner to end the first half, among other highlights.
Seems to play at a decent level. Oddly enough, you can see the twins at the end of the Maryland bench throughout the game.

Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
I watched this game as well. It was cool to watch both the Twins and Nelson play. I was intrigued by Anthony's play in this game. Anthony really did some nice things. Especially since he started the game against Maryland when both were ranked in the TOP 15 for most of the year as a Sophomore. Anthony finished with 10pts 5reb 3ast 2blk 3steals 0 turnovers and 1-1 from 3. All while playing 36 minutes. I just do not think you can turn in that kind of performance and not have it in you to be a good player. He needs to work on his consistency for sure to really reach his potential. Clearly his attitude some of his practice habits got him in the dog house with Kevin Willard and he never played in Conference more then 14 minutes.rhodyfan3000 wrote: ↑4 years ago

If he can build on the flashes he has shown in spot situations last year he could be a very good add.
Btw the twins put a few nice things on in this tape as well. Couple nice blocks down low.

Nelson is a point guard with Berry and Leggett being more of shooting guards. Not sure either of these two need to take a backseat to Nelson anyway. There is very good chance that Leggett is flat out better than Nelson. Re: '18 NY PG - Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall Transfer)
I imagine the loss of Wood might help on the recruiting trail with a prospective PG. The player might say, well, you have a lot of guards, how am I going to get playing time? And the coach might say, well, that is deceiving, because our star player doesn't always run the point, and he may not return at all, after testing the NBA waters. Also, it's not official yet, but our incoming freshman PG prospect isn't going to be coming after all, because his academics aren't in order.
So, said player (Nelson or otherwise), might say, I need to see some evidence of that actually being the case. Well, now there is evidence. So, I can imagine if not Nelson, then the loss of Wood might lead to a PG recruit coming here.
