Re: '18 CA SF Dana Tate (Offer)
No visit, no player.....Rod has said that, and I agree.
Is Tate visiting?
There is no requirement that states players should verbal to us in September....others have but so what?
The basic fact is that we have 5 openings, and NO commitments as of yet. To me, that's not good, no matter what anyone says.
Trust Dan and the staff, they say.....until I see results, will not be convinced.
Other than Hassan at the very beginning, and Cyril now, where are the good big men? And yes, Iverson and Preston were transfers.
I'm talking 4 year guys. Anybody here who is confident we'll get these guys, fine. Good luck.
Talk, talk, talk.....it's all cheap.

If we haven't even locked in an official visit then I'm nervous it's less than 50/50. I'm not sold on anyone's commitment until they commit. It's that simple, until then, everything else is just pure speculation.Billyboy78 wrote:He's definitely not a guarantee. I'm told it's about 50/50. But I don't think he has visited anyone officially yet. He has unofficially visited others, most recently Xavier, like he did with us.CT Rhody wrote:If we haven't even locked in an official visit then I'm nervous it's less than 50/50. I don't subscribe to this. Does anybody else? It's recent, so I'm wondering what he says here.

Re: '18 CA SF Dana Tate (Offer)
CT Rhody, you've hit the nail squarely on the head.
We should have a couple of verbals by now. Simple as that.
Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades....as recruits commit to other schools [PC comes to mind] we just sit on the sideline like the jilted prom date.....
And by sideline I don't mean the staff isn't trying their best...I'm sure they are....but will it be good enough?
Billyboy, others have said that Harris has said we're for him, like he's going to commit.....so what's the deal? Also that we're the clear leader for Tate.
I'll believe nothing until it comes from the horse's mouth.

easy for you to say, ha ha......I say we're currently 0 for 5......that's the problem....we have FIVE spots to fill, not one or 2, if that were true, then there wouldn't be seemingly as much urgency....Billyboy78 wrote:R-E-L-A-X

There will be a bunch of visits. Once the Bahama trip is done, I think we'll start hearing stuff. So far, Balanc is visiting in September

I would point out here that verbals aren't even real commitments and that every school is 0 for the 2018 class until November, but why bother.

Most verbals are signed on the dotted line in November.
No it's not a guarantee, but it's close.

How far we've come...now we have fans losing their shit bc a 4 star forward being pursued by high majors hasn't verballed yet. Keep moving the goal posts on the staff, it's easy to play that game. Can someone list the 4 star big men that have committed early to URI in the last 30 years? As Aaron Rogers said, RELAX and trust the process.

BAR, all fine and dandy....but those 4 star bigs have to start committing early at some point, or all of this talk of us being the next big thing ain't happening. And you know it.
We get those commits, and I'll change my tune.

Remember when u said - Qualify for the dance and I'll change my tune...win a big game and I'll change my tune...win a game in march and I'll change my tune...when I see something out of Langevine I'll change my tune...shall I keep going? U just move the line

Yup.....and I have changed my tune to an extent......BUT if this program is going to continue to raise the bar [ha ha] then this stuff needs to happen.....maybe we'll get there but patience isn't my strong point.
Anyway, no use continuing to bitch about it....I'll wait and see like everyone else.

Bone do you really think Dan has less of a thirst to be great and more patience than you do?!? If you know anything about him from media or personal experience you know the answer to that. Trust the process, he isn't complacent.

I'm trying not to read too much into Northeastern being one of his final four and it being announced at the Reggie Lewis Center.

That's where they play.....not good. Plus we're still not back from the trip.
Had no clue they were even in the running.
Check that, they play in Matthews Arena.

Really an upset if he chose any of the other 3.
NE basketball isn't a peer to URI basketball.
Plus.
Richmond. He hasn't been there.
Umass. He said it himself the staff changed.

Re: '18 CA SF Dana Tate (Offer)
i agree that is def between us and NE, but lets relax on the "He's announcing in NE building". Thank you for pointing out that is Matthews Arena Rambone, and Reggie Lewis did play there, but he is a kid that's been around the boston area, the Reggie Lewis center is on Roxbury Community College, since that's where Reggie grew up http://www.rcc.mass.edu/reggie-lewis
Everyone calm down and lets see how Saturday plays out. He didn't say LOVE in his comments for NE, so i think we are still looking okay

Re: '18 CA SF Dana Tate (Offer)
The Reggie Lewis Center has literally nothing to do with Northeastern, other than that it is named after an athlete that grew up in that neighborhood and also happened to go to school at Northeastern. Technically the facility is associated with the Roxbury Community College, but it also functions as a sort of community center for athletics in the area and is an obvious place to have an announcement like this. Stranger things have happened, but I would be very surprised if he picks Northeastern or any school other than URI.

ECR, I think he is rated a 3 star, but VERY close to 4 star level.
That predictor has us at 93.3% chance......for what it's worth.
I would agree TP......for a minute there I thought that the RL center was where NE played.

TruePoint, thank for sending that out as well. Exactly my point, RLC has nothing to do with NE, to TP's point its a big community center that is involved with the local youth

The Reggie Lewis Center is also where Expressions has held practices and tryouts in the past. I'm assuming this is why.RhowdyRam02 wrote:I'm trying not to read too much into Northeastern being one of his final four and it being announced at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Re: '18 CA SF Dana Tate (Offer)
August is a dead period to my understanding, not sure if any staff can be there when the kid commits, but I'm sure he'll be swagged out in gear as will his family... which is important because his brother is Daman Tate who we're also recruiting and his recruitment is bound to blow up with him reclassifying at Cushing.rambone 78 wrote:They have a game Friday at 1....they are coming back Saturday, not sure when though. Does anybody know where the URI staff has Tate projected positional wise? Obviously everything is going positionless but would be considered closer to a guard or front court player for us?

He would be more of a traditional 3 I think.....with more quality size the team could get away from 3 and 4 guard lineups more often.
That will only help if they want to run with the big boys.
