'17 DC F JaMarko Pickett (Ole Miss Commit)

Unread post by Bos8 »

Jamarko Pickett SF
From: Washington, DC
Ht: 6-7
Wt: 175
School/AAU: Massanutten Prep

Ranking: 2 star

Offers:
URI
Ole Miss
FIU

Interest
Northern Kentucky
Kent State
U-Mass.-Lowell
Norfolk State
Morgan State
Hofstra
Virginia Union

I've heard that URI has offered JaMarko Pickett from DC. He graduated from Eastern High School and will be prepping at Massanutten Prep with Coach Myers. He played for DC Premier and is a late blooming 6'7 wing who is really skinny. The extra year at Prep should help him continue to develop.

He plays for Massanutten prep. They are coach by Chad Myers, who formerly was the Coach at Elev8 Prep, where Leroy Butts prepped. He played for DC Premier, who we all know Coach Cox has ties with.

"This year’s edition of the Colonels boasts seven players with DI offers already in hand, including 6-foot-9 swingman Jamarko Pickett (Eastern High; Washington, D.C.), who said he has already drawn offers from Ole Miss, Rhode Island, Boston College, Creighton, South Carolina, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Memphis and Kansas State, to name a few."

Long and athletic. A real late bloomer who has really improved, really started to blow up last year, and showed major flashes during July.

Looks like the only visits he has scheduled are to Ole Miss (today) and us next week. The early signing period is only 3 1/2 weeks away. Let's get him before he blows up during his prep season.. Of course, I've only seen him on tape but he looks like a player to me....does a lot of things well.

Nice video. Very similar skill set as K Iverson. If he bulks up this year, he could be a monster.
I'd be very happy with this signing. Agree that it seems like he can really play.
Hopefully we will get more good news next weekend!

I like his game, agreed very similar to KI. Would be a great get having another long, skilled F that can do multiple things... Go get em next weekend!

I'm not sure that Hampton is anything but a "hey, he left PSU and we had offered him" rumor, but maybe I missed it.
Bos8 was just saying it made sense to talk to him at some point. Totally agree.

They are two very different types of players. Depends on what the staff sees as the greatest need.

Pickett just seems to have a pretty high ceiling (Delroy/Iverson type). If we are going up tempo, this is a good fit.

Wow, that sucks. Guess he didn't even want a free trip to RI.

In a recruiting year with only two open spots and a easily identifiable need, I don't think it's worth the gamble that a guy will 1) get out of his commitment and 2) decide on your school the second time around. Next year? Sure, keep one open into the summer if you want.

Yea, I forgot to add that I don't have a strong opinion either way, and it was obvious we needed another front court body for this upcoming year.
