Re: '17 JUCO PF - Shakur Juiston (Offer)
I sure hope we have a surprise package coming from Serbia or somewhere in eastern Europe....a 7' package would be nice.
Very disappointed staff could apparently not close this deal. As I said before this player puts us right back in the top 25.
Need a surprise cause everything else I've seen here is low D1 talent - hold the scholarship vs offer to what we've seen.

Again, this cycle reminds me of the great
Berry vs. Ba showdown a couple of years ago.
I doubt we'll see a recruit who can be a
positive contributor.
Hope I'm wrong, because we need front court
help.

Re: '17 JUCO PF - Shakur Juiston (Offer)
I'm not surprised, but very disappointed we couldn't even get an official visit from him, especially since we would've surrounded him with the talent to get to the tournament. He was the missing piece of the puzzle at PF for us.
The reality is our existing front court group of 5 is probably not tournament ready.

I believe this rumor of his committing is just that. A rumor.

As far as I know, we stopped recruiting him......the reason will remain unspoken for now.

If that's true, it would seem the 17 cycle is done. Not sure of your sources as this thing has been locked up better than Houdini

I'm not really one for the fighting on this board. But I read it and I was surprised when people called Rambone out for not actually watching the games. I assumed he just watched them like all of us. So I found that surprising.
Rambone, if it is indeed true that you discuss the games and the team without watching the games, then how is it you have credible insider info about recruiting?
Let me say that I appreciate your posts too. I even appreciated that SlyWilliamsCaddy with the Pat Riley at a gas station.

If he has no baggage. --and I've never heard any rumors of any problems associated with him-- and we simply stopped recruiting him without having a "sure thing" some where else, I'm really disappointed. That's called giving up.

Re: '17 JUCO PF - Shakur Juiston (Offer)
SPG, I watch the games whenever possible...I can't go to many because of my work schedule...but I still know quite a few people who are associated with the program. I was closer to the program back in the day, also.
Jake, we didn't "give up"....there are other reasons involved.
Right now there is a serious possibility that we will not get the impact big we are looking for next season....things happen.
Also there are issues involving the extension details.....URI could be waiting for some things to happen before committing to some of the enhancements that Dan wants. The issue of recruiting is a problem, with possible staff upheaval. The next few months are beyond critical for success to continue.

A lot of "second hand" info gets reported on this board. In other words, info from others, who may or may not be right.
Some sources are reliable, and others aren't.
And some people just make stuff up, to get a reaction. I'm not one of those.

Yup... The worst part is this team just made it to the round of 32 and played a final four team to the wire. You would think that would help since we get our entire backcourt back... Stan Robinson will be the smallest power forward in the country.rodfromcranston wrote:Again, this cycle reminds me of the great

Re: '17 JUCO PF - Shakur Juiston (Offer)
331 posts and seven pages.
What is being tapped danced around is, what I wrote on page one.
If this player was such a priority, you put your best foot forward.
Depending on some nebulous connection with NJ was not
the way to go.
In the end, it may not have mattered, but knowing you
made your best effort like we did with, say, Terrell,
means you never second guess yourself.

Yeah, not the best job by the staff on this one.
This kid should have been recruited by Dan himself....maybe he did somewhat but leaving it to another didn't work out.
This guy would have been our ticket to the next dance.

Honestly it's hard for me to come up with a word that conveys the naïveté and presumptuousness it requires to believe that if only the coaches knew as much about their roster and how to recruit as you do that we'd have our pick of every recruit in the country. I guess I'll have to settle for "absurd."

TP, we didn't give up wanting him to come here.....the details you know nothing about....so leave it at that.
And nobody here is as good as you are when it comes to putting someone's else's opinions down...so take a bow.
However, keep your "absurd" comments to yourself. Thanks.

I don't know what you were trying to say in most of your post, but sticking to what I can comprehend, I'll pass on keeping my opinion to myself. If you don't want to be called absurd, don't have absurd takes.

Do you have any clue how you come across, TP?
You haven't changed one bit.....your last line is pure bullshit.....kinder gentler my ass.
Master of the put down....I'm glad we haven't met, because I would have no interest in meeting someone who thinks they are above everyone else.
You have absolutely NO idea of what happened with Juiston's recruitment...I do.
If you don't believe me, too bad.

You have no idea what I know and what I don't know. I don't know what you know or what you think you know, either, so I'm going by what you said here. The way you and other people here talk about recruiting makes it seem like it's a puzzle where if you do it a specific way you get the player and if you don't you lose the player. If Dan had done this or not done that he'd be coming to URI. That isn't how it works.

RR2, believe me I'd like to....but there are circumstances involving some things that can't be discussed at the present time.
Hope you understand...
TP, I know that.....that situation doesn't apply.....it's not something we did or didn't do in this case.
I know you think I'm off base....but just wait.....and I'm going to let this sleeping dog lie until we all find out.

Re: '17 JUCO PF - Shakur Juiston (UNLV)
So I have 2 questions Rambone:
#1. Would it have made any difference in Juiston's decision on UNLV if Hurley had attended the NCAAJC championship game in Kansas instead if Carr?
#2. What approximate timing can we expect to know the story you talk about? 1 month? 6 months? Possibly never?
Thanks

I'm not 100% sure so I'm just going by what I've read here but I think Carr was the one recruiting Juiston and he is no longer going to be an assistant coach next year or something along those lines.eli#10 wrote:Is it time to let the secret out as to what the "issue" was with this guy or was it all a smoke screen?

Not that anybody cares or anything but Shakur scored 19 and had 10 rebounds in his UNLV debut. Also they had a 7 foot frosh score 25 and have 18 rebounds in a 40 point win
