Game #27: at Temple University - GameDay!!

Unread post by rodfromcranston »

Everyone seems to have forgotten that we still have a season to finish.
Tough game in a tough place.
Temple is playing for an NCAA berth, and we have a chance to play spoiler.
I just watched CBS Sports 10 greatest NCAA upsets, and anything is possible, if
not probable.
GO, RHODY!

rod I have not forgot. I enjoy watching the fire within this team. I have the game to be recorded tomorrow due to prior plans. Its so hard to not look at my phone before i watch the game. But no matter how much i love this team, there is not too much to talk about other than next year. My only personal concern for next year is I want to see Powell, TJ, and AAman get theirs, because of the bumps and bruises they took this year. I feel like TJ can be such a big piece to our success next year. You heard it here folks I'm calling my shot TJ will be the mending piece to connect our starters scoring with our bench scoring no more droughts. anybody else feel this way on TJ?

Yeah I think conference realignment and Cordischi's article has put the remainder of the season on the back burner.

That's only going to intensify after the season. At least we should have recruiting to talk about also.

Agree with you. TJ is a leader, gives 100% on the floor at all time.......and I mean all times.
He started off the year injured and played through the injuries.
He is the best passer on the team.
Looking at TJs perceived weaknesses that have been described during the year:
3 Point Shooting His 3 point shooting was deemed to be a weakness early in the season by most. Season results:
- missed his first 5 threes
- made 8 of his next 13 threes which equates to a sizzling 62% during that streak
- missed his last 3 threes
- Leading the team with 8-21 or 38%. Compares to Munford 32%, Nik 34%, Powell 31% and Malone 32%
Bottom Line - TJ has shown his 3 point shooting is at least on a par with all URI's 3 point shooters
Last year TJ was 6-23 for 26% on threes while this year 38%.
Ability to Play Point Guard
- Dan Hurley has referred to TJ as the best passer on the team
- When TJ is in for Powell and playing PG, he has not gotten swallowed up by the opposition bring the ball up the floor as some might have thought he would
- TJ does not hold the ball for long and passes quickly and accurately
- Guys on the floor are more active with TJ on the court than with Mike because they know a pass could be coming at any second versus dribbling
- Play is quicker with TJ in the game
- TJ FG% is 44%: compares favorably to Munford 39% and Powell 31%
- Minutes per game: TJ 18, Powell 37, Munford 36 - so Powell and Munford about double
- Turnovers per Game: TJ .8, Powell 2.7, Munford 2.9 - TJ with less than 1/3rd of TOs in half the minutes versus Munford and Powell
- Steals per Game: TJ .5, Powell 1.1, Munford 1.2 - TJ about par - would have expected more steals from TJ
- Rebounds per Game: TJ 1.9, Powell 2.7, Munford 3.0 - Big advantage TJ in rebounding
- At 6'3" and 195 lbs TJ is solidly build, very strong and plays relentless defense
Bottom Line: With TJ now healthy and the A10 Playoffs no longer possible why not give TJ the start and play him 35 minutes per game. What is there to lose? Could it be the fear that all Coaches have? that players, fans and KeaneyBlue.com posters could wonder why you didn't play TJ more all season? Roll the dice - absolutely nothing to lose
With such a heavy focus on recruiting in Michigan, TJ becoming a "star" at URI would be a very good thing.
I was a big fan of TJ last year, as well as when he was in High School. I can honestly tell you that TJ is giving no more "effort" this year than last. While last year was a horrible year with Coaching challenges, player challenges, etc., TJ never, ever let up. He dove for balls and played his man just as tightly last year as this year. Even the last games and the last minutes of the season last year TJ was going at 100% - that is all he knows in how to play the game.

I'm interested to see how much time Hare gets today. Hopefully after being benched against LaSalle, he worked his ass off this week and plays well today.

Line is URI +12.5 I'm definitely going to be on it, Temple plays very similar to our style. Would be alot more confident if i knew for sure Hare was playing or not though....

Dan said Hare is playing today. How much, probably depends on how affective he is.
I fail to see how Cordicschi's article puts our last three games on the back burner.
It's still about what happens on the court, not what's written in Golocalprov.
Next Saturday is senior night and the great '88 team will be honored.
Guess they should cancel all that, because Scott Cordicshi wrote a piece of crap
article.

Not for nuthin, but this game is not on tv?!?!?
Rufkm?!?!?
Evry home game is televised b/c of our own deal.
What benefit exactly do we get from the a-10 tv package if
THE ONLY GAMES THAT ARE TELEVISED ARE ONES THAT WE
PUT ON TV OURSELVES?
Espn produces coverage for every big east game...
hence the BE schools get $...
No wonder X and Butler and Temple decided to leave, and
SLU and Dayton are right behind them.
BTW, concerning them, I say gtfo NOW.
That's one reason I'm not in philly now.
Last visit to Broad St? That was the first road trip I took as
a freshman, so there are many reasons I have always enjoyed going there.
But I have no interest in a farewell tour.

Rudder, things will change next year for the better where there will be many more A10 games on TV, which means we'll have better away game coverage. This year, the new TV contract is NOT yet in effect. Next season, ESPN, CBS Sports Network, and NBC Sports Network will cover more games than ever... assuming they don't back out now that X and Butler are gone (they already knew about Charlotte and Temple before signing).

Amazing how basketball is just forgotten.
Does anyone care that Hassan Martin had 10 blocked shots and 20 rebounds and
a triple double in his playoff game? Or that both our stud recruits have enjoyed
tremendous seasons?

First question for Dan in pre-game show: C7....

Dan says A10 has dealt with this in the past and he feels the A10 commissioner has his confidence that they're working on this situation.

Jordan Hare is a "big part of our future" and has had a talk with Dan, as communication with players is something they do a lot of in his program. He had a good week of preparation in practice.
