I think contingencies have more to do with seeding, or potential first four in than anything. Tomorrow night will be good for our state as two local teams make the dance (and UConn fans complain )

Lunardi Sunday morning
Has URI playing Syracuse in Dayton. Then winner to Milwaukee to play 6th seed Michigan
Of course we will know for sure in 9 hours from now
Lots of basketball to play out yet today
To heck with just getting into the Dance. This team wants more than that.
Big win today and we bypass Dayton

Re: 2016-17 Bracketology
If Rhody is already in as we hope, the committee may choose to make their seeding bracket easy by pre-setting two seeds for the A-10 finals teams and placing the winner with the better seed. If they do follow that path and URI were to win today, it would have a resume and RPI (below 30) similar to VCU at this moment. An argument could be made that the better seed be given to the A-10 Tourney champ and the loser gets the other seed. If this were the case, I don't know that you would have a plan to put VCU in the play in game given they deserve better. It could therefore be possible that the contingency plan does not involve making the loser go to Dayton. We shall see.

Top tier (1-8) Conference champs are not usually slotted for the play in games at Dayton. Furthermore, if URI were to win today, they would have an RPI just below 30, 24 wins overall, be 9-7 vs top 100, have 11 wins away from home, and be coming off an eight game winning streak. That is not play in material.

A win today means for sure we do not play in Dayton. With how the brackets and movement. Of lines, a 10 seed makes the most sense if we win at this point, but could be anywhere in 9 to 12 rangekal-65 wrote:does a win vs vcu ,let us skip the play in game; can we get a 10 seed

URI will not be in the play in game if they win. They pick the four weakest automatic qualifiers for the play in games.

So, Lunardi has us as the last team in. Since we're the only bubble team left with a game to play, that's the same as saying that we are out if we don't win our tournament.

FWIW off shore sportsbook has URI as -700 to make field of 68. Cal also at -700, don't see how. PC and Marquette actually have similar odds at -800 to make tourney

Not really. Someone would need a resume that is better than URI, and I just don't see it. My bet is that Jim Boeheim will be whining tonight.

Re: 2016-17 Bracketology
Just saw the "experts" on ESPN. They have us edging out USC. But, they all have Syracuse as comfortably in.
Their reasoning for their selections is unbelievable.
Why doesn't the committee just make Syaracuse a 1 seed and be done with it?

Re: 2016-17 Bracketology
I think the margin of victory in our first two A-10 games helped dispel notions that URI does not belong. These weren't squeakers as we had double digit victories in both games and won by an average of 17. I think the score in these games partially offset the fact that neither opponent was top 50. They both however were not dregs as they were in the top 100. Yesterday's game likely garnered a lot of national interest since Rhody was one of just a few bubble teams still playing. Anyone watching that game would have to be impressed.

Should have an RPI in the high 20s. Ken pom in the high 30s. 3 top 50 wins. 9 top 100 wins. 8 in a row. 11- ELEVEN - neutral and road wins. Conference champions of the 7th or 8th best conference in the country.
If the committee takes into account our injuries to 2 starters and a bench player, and EC Matthews getting healthy - we could be a 9 seed.

I would rather be in a 7-10 game. But I'm thinking 8-9 is where we end up. Buffalo maybe?

Jerry Palm has us an 11 playing IA St and south. Has VCU and 8 and PC a 9. How is VCU 3 seeds ahead of us when we won conference tourney and beat them twice in 10 days? He also has PC on the bubble, but then listed as 9. Xavier is also an 11. That were awful at end of year, but they beat PC by 30 when healthy. I thought PC was getting overlooked a few weeks ago, don't see how they should be so solidly in. And a 9 seed? BE is not as good as usual and has been decimated with injuries to key players on their best teams

We have the same number of top 100 wins. We have the same number of road and neutral site wins. We have the same number of bad losses outside of the top 100 (1) and 200 (fordham).
We beat them twice. We have won EIGHT in a row.
