I figured you would be going to the Pee Cee game tonight because they are unveiling a second mascot at the St John's game.
Can't imagine why.......their current mascot got ranked #2 among the creepiest, most terrifying mascots in the world:

Re: Week #12 - Games of Interest
As stated by the committee, media members, and those (knowledgeable) posters on this board...conference record and standings means nothing for NCAA selection. Zero. Unlike in the "old" days, conference schedules are unbalanced. So you may play lousy teams twice, the top-2 teams once each on your home court, etc.rambone 78 wrote:Pitt is 1-6 in their conference....good wins or not, there's no way they should dance with that kind of conference record at this point.
Yes the ACC is the best conference out there, but they will have to at least get much closer to .500 by the end of the season to get in.
The committee looks at a team's entire schedule/resume. They're not looking at what place the team finished in the conference standings...nor should they. (Clearly if they're 1-13 in the league they won't have enough wins, period.) But ignore their conference record. (St. Bonnies knows all about the conference record meaning nothing.)

Re: Week #12 - Games of Interest
I have to agree PMMM, this weekend, to my astonishment, they were still talking about Clemson being a bubble team and Clemson is 1-6. But it depends on who you played so far too - maybe you hit the meat of the ACC early on and have some easier games later or you played a lot of Away games. ACC will get a host of teams in the NCAA so you still might have a shot even if below .500 record.PlayMikeMotenMore wrote:As stated by the committee, media members, and those (knowledgeable) posters on this board...conference record and standings means nothing for NCAA selection. Nice win for Cincy vs Xavier....So...how in the name of WTF did Rhody beat Cincy again? I mean, I was there and I saw it with my own (admittedly aging) eyes...but...seems like a distant memory...or dream almost...I might not even believe it, but my whole family was with me, and they say they saw it, too...

Re: Week #12 - Games of Interest
It def happened 208. The highlight of the year for me was walking out of the arena with a 4-0 record, a top 25 win, and chanting "We want Duke!" along with several hundred other extatic Rhody fans. Those were the days.

Re: Week #12 - Games of Interest
Despite a 8 point halftime deficit, #19 Cincy came back to take the lead half way through the second half and relentlessly held it for the rest of game to beat crosstown rival #24 Xavier, 86-78. Most certainly Xavier will be bounced from the Top 25 when the next poll comes out on Monday. Also, Xavier's road record now 1-6 shows they are not road warriors.
Other scores:
St. Peter's hands Marist its fifteenth loss of season, 81-65.
Old Dominion takes road win at Rice, 80-72.
William & Mary easily handles Delaware, 82-58.
OOC goes 3-1 for the evening.

Re: Week #12 - Games of Interest
Man, what heady days those were at the Sun after the Cincy win...like RJ said, walking out of that place with chants of "We want Duke"...I mean, who'd have ever thunk that. For 'new fan' like me...that, and the GW game at Barclay's are the top shelf moments.
Oh well...long season and hopefully, they can figure out a way to recapture some of that. Hats off to Cincy though...you look at the way they are just a-rolling now and ask...how did Rhody do that? Maybe Hurls should just show them tapes of that game, every day, instead of practicing...=> watch game, shoot around for 20 minutes, shoot some FT's, chat/discuss...go home, come back the next day, repeat.

This was pretty crazy last night (even though URI looked like they had 4 players against Richmond the other night)...UAB only had 4 players after this scrum.

Watched Oregon-Utah last night.
Oregon is the anti-Hurley team.
Six players 6'9" to 6'11".
Dillon Brooks set up the big guys for giant
dunks, over and over.
Interior passing was brilliant. Big to big,
with great athleticism.
Lot of fun to watch.
The Ducks have won 16 games in a row.

Re: Week #12 - Games of Interest
Caught most of that game as well, Rod. Boy, do they finish strong at the rim! Admittedly, Utah wasn't great with switches which led to a handful of those dunks but there is no hesitation or altering of dunks/layups when they go to the rim. Either a foul or a bucket every time. Also helps when you have 3 guys on the court over 6'9 with freakish athleticism. Boucher and Bell are guys you just get out of the way of, unless you want to be on a poster.rodfromcranston wrote:Watched Oregon-Utah last night.

It was Louisiana Tech that only had 4 players for the last 6-7 minutes of the game. And actually outscored UAB while shorthanded 20-16. Per Lunardi and Cuff at the VCU Dayton game....Rhody will be on the outside looking in come March...basically couldn't handle the weight of expectation....
Then some other talking head said at halftime that Rhody could run the table at the conf tourney and the A10 could wind up a one bid league....

Wow Georgia Tech with a buzzer beater to beat Notre Dame. It's crazy that they've probably played their way into bubble talk with wins over UNC, FSU and now Notre Dame.

Re: Week #12 - Games of Interest
With URI's win over St. Bonaventure, the Rams move into a third place tie in the A-10. To stay there and move up further will take winning on the road in addition to holding home court advantages. Games at Davidson and UMass will answer that question!
Summarizing A-10 results:
Avenging an earlier home loss to Fordham, Davidson trounces the Metro Rams, 84-66.
George Mason sweeps UMass, 76-74.
George Washington rallies from a 11 point halftime deficit to beat Saint Louis, 63-55.
Duquesne put up a good fight and led by 5 in second half before Richmond rallied to take the win, 101-90. Richmond takes over sole possession of A-10 first place.
La Salle loses at St. Joseph's, 73-72. The Explorers have now lost three straight after an impressive five game winning streak earlier.
URI OOC opponents go 6-3 on the day:
Marist loses at Fairfield, 72-62.
PC holds on to win its first game in Milwaukee beating Marquette, 79-78.
Duke down ten at the half rallies to edge Wake Forest, 85-83.
Old Dominion over North Texas, 73-67.
Holy Cross falls at Navy, 60-47.
William & Mary hands UNC - Wilmington its first CAA loss, 96-78.
Dartmouth beaten by Cornell, 75-62.
Belmont wins at Tennessee State, 93-76.
Houston over Temple, 79-66.

Mostly because they're not flashy.
They've been as good as anyone.
Tony Bennett is a top 5 coach right now.
They probably play smarter than anyone in college ball.
