For those old enough to remember when RI had its own local sports talk show/station (WPRO-Chuck Wilson show/WSKO The Score), a familiar character (Ken Ford aka Jersey Red) that frequently called in recently passed away. Jersey Red's voice was heard almost as much as a certain Rod from Cranston. Red along with RI Sports Talk radio are now sadly both in the past.

RIP jersey Red. Your calls with Chuck Wilson back in the day were true entertainment. Ahhh the Good ole days!

Re: Ken ‘Jersey Red’ Ford Dies
I recall Red, Cordischi, and Gresh sticking their noses
into the URI coaching "search" after Harrick left.
All three furiously pimping for Jerry D.
Pitino and Cal were Red's gods.
He was no fan of URI, but somehow had a strong
opinion on who our coach should be, as did the other two.

The worst part about that whole episode/era is folks who should have had the whole PC boot licking crew on ignore paid attention to the buzz created by our enemies. It was truly bizarre everyone knew he couldn't coach a lick and wouldn't make the effort to even read Dean Smith's book.rodfromcranston wrote:I recall Red, Cordischi, and Gresh sticking their noses

We have yet to fully recover. Luckily we had enough momentum from Penders, Skinner and Harrick to get our building put up.
"No fan of URI" is one of your biggest understatements ever Rod.......

Re: Ken ‘Jersey Red’ Ford Dies
It bothered me that people who had no use for URI,
including Gresh, suddenly felt obligated to tell everyone,
who should be coach there.
Unfortunately, many inside URI felt the same.
We hired THE worst coach in NCAA history, and have never
recovered.
For that reason and CFL's insane extension, Carothers' name should
not be hanging fron the Ryan Center rafters.

Yep we had DeGregorio and 10 yrs of "attack the bucket" and "score the ball" as opposed to Harrick and Penders who were truly elite basketball coaches.
Painful.

Jerry D and CFL made Al Skinner seem like Coach K.
