As I said, when he was leaving, it was followed by, "Rod, you know I always
get what I want!"
Sorry '74, Section 105. Opps!

Same here. Had a last minute legal matter [a good one] to deal with.

Hopefully there will be a preseason event this fall.......

Rod, that sounds optimistic to me. We all know he can't name names....

Lots of Hare talk last night, but among people who were
there, not coaches.
That's where I heard the Luther Clay story.
Apparently his girlfriend is pregnant again! Geez, fella,
learn from your mistakes.

I'd like to go to one of these too, or the coach's show during the season. It's tough to do when you work 'til 6:00 though.

Rod, on my bucket list is to get to talk to McGovern. If you remember, when I was in high school I sent him a fan letter telling him to beat the crap out of Mr. Kimball and company at Uconn. Maybe at next fall's get together.

Really nice guy! Number 44.
Imagine an outside shooter,
with no 3 point line, shooting 54%?
Toby Kimball, Bill Holowaty, Tom Penders,
and the hated UConn Huskies.

Never forget the open shot that McGovern missed at the buzzer for the NCAA bid vs UConn at Keaney;

......and then they tried to take our nets down!! And half the stands were UConn and half were Rhody and everyone was on the court and more than a few State Troopers with their billy clubs out etc etc.

Do I assume that some of us were looking for a UConn player to do some damage to ..................

Really high emotions!!!

I remember John Hanlon wrote a piece that ended with the Ram
over the stage, shedding a tear.
It was a little ten footer on the baseline, which didn't fall.
Would have meant an NCAA trip.
Was avenged the year after in a playoff at Storrs, when Penders sucker punched
Art Stephanson, and Big Step got tossed for retaliating.
Boy, did we hate Tom Penders!

Remember that too. In those days I don't remember who I hated more, PC or UConn.

This was a huge rivalry, with UConn.
The young people here see UConn as they are
now.
Once we lead them in the season series, and for some years,
beating them was no big deal.
Wes Bialosuknia was as good a shooter as I've ever seen.
Didn't do much else, but he could light it up.

I remember that play-in game at Storrs. A great night. I never thought we had a chance when Art was ejected. I can't remember hating a player more than Penders. Of course, times change. We've laughed about that night several times since and have grown to love Tom. He was the original Ric Flair of basketball.
Strangely enough, I even remember the songs on the radio on the ride home from that game. (Just wish I could remember where I was yesterday.)

That UConn team with Penders and Kimball was a little before my time, but I do remember the great rivalry we had with them pre-Big East. Thanks scumbag Dave. It was the Corny Thompson team when I was on school.

I remember the Governor of Ct. helping in Thompson's recruitment. I don't think that's happened too much here.

Actually, Phil Noel helped with Stanley Wright's recruitment.
Kraft took him up to Noel's office in the State House.
Noel was a former Brown football player, but realized URI
was the state school.
Don't recall that happening since.

And so did Stanley's father, Leroy, who for some reason, loved Rhode Island, just loved it….

For anyone who was at the ceremony, do you agree that they should have just showed the latest Rhode Work episode rather than the highlight reel with the messed up audio tracks?

Most in that audience probably remember the season highlights VHS tapes from the mid and late 90s (available as a single DVD in the URI Basketball DVD Library). The Rhode Work series, given that it's distributed online, may not have even been seen yet by the vast majority in attendance (any episode, not just the latest).
