What about Freeman or the numerous grad transfers out there?Billyboy78 wrote:Verbal Commits updates daily. They took Johnny Hamilton off our page today. Kyle Alexander is the only one left, other than '16s. So, if we do get a big, he's coming out of nowhere.

Re: '15 CAN PF Kyle Alexander
He was visited by new Tennessee coach Rick Barnes a couple of days ago...........Alexander's father stated in an interview, Tennessee coaches worked him out, and he was going to Knoxville for an official visit this weekend. His choices were narrowed to three schools......URI was not on the list.
.....My bet he will be playing at Tennessee next year.
.....Rob Lanier [cousin of Bob] is Barnes Associate Head Coach, and big man coach. He has recruited 10 McDonald's All-americans for the schools he has coached at, of which 8 are in the NBA.

We may have to change the title of this page to Other Teams' Recruitment Corner.

Certainly we aren't going to get any that we aren't actively recruiting.PeterRamTime wrote:Daaanngg :/ can't get no big

Re: '15 CAN PF Kyle Alexander
I'm wondering, how important is it in the eyes of front court recruits, that we do not have a specific "big man coach"?
Our coaching staff is two point guards, and two coaches who did not play D1.....I am not inside The Coach's head, and certainly support his efforts, but it would be interesting to poll "the bigs" we have reecruited, who did not come here, as to why.

.....To date Coach has successfully recruited the following front court players. Biruta who he coached in H.S., Martin who he previously recruited, Watson a J.C. transfer, Onykaba an inexperienced foreigh student......and Butts [recruited by Cox]....Iverson is probably a small forward inspite of his height.
My only concern with Coach, when he was hired, was a feeling that he was starting without an A10 level recruiting base.....He has brought in some really good guards.

The guy's dad said they want an SEC or ACC team. That's the next step for the A10 to take. There's the random high quality big, but it's a guard conference, in reputation and practice right now. The high quality bigs, whether it's based on potential or current skills, want the right competition. Can some A10 teams overcome this? Sure, and I think URI can get there, but it's a factor.

Right but we have not been involved for quite some time. The reason why he has a thread is that we were involved at one point, but it shouldn't exactly come as a shock that he did not end up here.Billyboy78 wrote:We were VERY actively recruiting him. As soon as Duke started showing interest back in Jan. or Feb., I figured we were done.

Shocking…..Surfri72 wrote:Tennessee
He will not last two years there.
And it's not because he'll be declaring for the NBA Draft.
