My understanding is that we will definitely be playing Duke in that tournament.

Good. That will be an awesome game.

EC and Hassan will be seniors, JT and JG will be juniors, Iverson a senior.

Plus ? We should be a no question NCAA tourney team in 2 years.

You didn't read that wrong. This afternoon it mentioned URI a few times, with no mention of Harvard.

I think the thing to remember here is that UMass is trying to put on an event at the Garden. Who the other teams are that are involved is going to be fluid, and hopefully an event comes together and it includes us and we get to play somebody interesting. I think it could be an interesting idea to do an every-other-year situation with UMass where we play a double-header with them in Boston and at Mohegan against non-regional opponents. I know everyone here has some weird hatred for UMass, but I think of them as the "good" kind of rival and think they could be an important strategic ally for us.

If the team playing Kentucky is Harvard, attendance will still not be great. The six MA team tournament at the Garden included UMass, Northeastern, and Harvard (along with BU, BC, and Holy Cross). It only attracted about 6k in total for the three games. Kentucky will bring fans regardless of who they play, but the Boston area teams will not bring large numbers.

This is impressive considering their down year this year. Could be a hostile crowd when we play there next season.

From what I understand their new gym is a good amount bigger then average and I imagine a lot of the attendance is based around season tickets/mini plans/single seats sold before the season started. Basically coming on the heels of their best year in over a decade, lots of optimism for this season and discontent with the direction of their football team making the basketball team look even better. I'd be surprised if they're anywhere near that level next year.

This year was consistent with their 2013-14 attendance. Seems to be due to the new facility.

Pinnacle Arena (cap 15,147), located in downtown Lincoln, is brand new and opened up in the 2013-14 season. The Cornhuskers immediately saw a big jump in attendance that season and rode it to their first NCAA bid in many years. This last season had momentum from the prior year and came with high expectations which I am sure fueled advance ticket sales. Unfortunately their season tanked.

I can't imagine there's a whole lot to see sportswise outside of the U. of Nebraska out there. I remember reading about Husker fans who would drive 6 hours each way to go to a football game.

My wife's family is from Nebraska and my late father in-law had season tickets to the football games. As you know they are totally nuts for football out there. I think they've sold out the games going back to the 1960's. We used to thake the kids out there for a couple of weeks in the summer to visit their grandparents. I remember it took going to the last page of the Omaha World Herald to find out how the Red Sox did. The previous five pages concerned anything and everything concerning Husker Football. I think they even did features on the waterboy. My sister in law was not a great football fan but earned a considerable amount of spending money scalping her student ticket. My wife is the consumate anti sports fan but always manages to have a passing interest in the Huskers. Her passiveness regarding sports is forgiven as I was given World Series tickets as a birthday present in 2004 and 2013!

Very impressive palace-arena, there.
Maineiac, if you went to Montreal in the summer, it's all about
the Canadiens, 24/7.
Like the Huskers, they too have seen better days, despite the worship
of their fans.

I would say, with respect to the Garden doubleheader, that that is a fluid situation. Whether the event will exist at all and which teams would participate if it does are both still open questions. URI playing Kentucky is a possible outcome, but it is also the best of many potential scenarios.

I'll bet the classy way the team and fans handled this year's game went a long way in developing a good relationship with Nebraska.

I also heard somewhere that the fans out there really love their football team.

Speaking of Kentucky, Calipari wins coach of the year and can't win a national championship despite having a team where all 5 starters and 2 BENCH players declare early for the NBA draft.

the praise he gets and the white washing of his laundry list of NCAA violations is infuriating. He's screwed over 2 different schools and has been proven time and again as a bad in game coach. His skill is he's better at being a weasel than other coaches.

The fact that he is going into the basketball hall of fame is beyond comprehension

Somebody tweeted that the program's APR must be a sight to behold.

He'll get out of town before that catches up with him......

oh that's right, there are rules for most programs, and then there are "rules" for programs like Kentucky and UNC, among others....

With the 7 Kentucky players leaving early, the door is now open for the top high school players to sign there. I believe 5 of the top 10 are unsigned. I bet at LEAST 3 of them sign with Kentucky next week, which would give them 6 of the top 13 high school players coming out this year.

Losing seven players just clears lots of payroll space for Calipitino's (ahem) recruiting (ahem) class.

I almost don't think it is fair to compare Pitino to Cal anymore. Pitino has been squeaky clean by comparison (sexcapades aside).

Everyone likes to tag Calipari as a crook.
Still, despite scandals at UMass and Memphis, the
NCAA has yet to lay a glove on him for any impropriety.
At the same time, never a single word was said about John Wooden's
denying any knowledge of Sam Gilbert's bankrolling Wooden's program and players.
Why? Wooden was a grandfatherly man, who spouted nice quotes
and gave the appearance of being without sin.
Calipari is a slickster, who fits some people's idea of what someone
without scruples must look and act like.
I'm sure Kentucky closely monitors what's happening within their
program, not to have UMass and Memphis type doings in Lexington.
Meanwhile, Calipari uses the rules that exist on one and dones, to his advantage,
and is just smarter than everyone else in doing so.

To steal Bressler's act for a moment, in this analogy, Calipari is Omar, and the coaches doing it "right" are Maurice Levy. They're all playing the same game here, some of them are just recruiting and using four-year players to get that NCAA money.

Just because Calipitino hasn't been sanctioned by the NCAA doesn't mean he's clean. Some guys just know how to cover their tracks. And I'm sure the yahoos in Kentucky say, "if you're not cheating, you're not trying" or something like that.

Coaches know every single thing happening in their programs. They're control freaks of the highest order. I won't believe for one second that Calipitino had no idea what happened at UMass or at Memphis. Now that he's in the BCS cartel, the NCAA is basically going to have to catch him in bed with a dead woman or a live boy (see Fine, Bernie, and Sandusky, Jerry) to do anything to Kentucky.
