And no truth to the rumor that there is a clause in the contract Dan has to modify his style in the Coaches Box, or be more friendly to the Referees.

I know this was in jest at the time, but in retrospect the timing is interesting.Rhody15 wrote:He must be staying!!!

Not sure it was a lack of faith in this situation... I want Dan Hurley as our coach for the foreseeable future, but I would not have begrudged him one bit if he took the St. John's job. Anyone would be hard-pressed to turn down 2-3 times their salary to coach for a program rich in basketball tradition and success greater than Rhody's... and essentially in the backyard where you grew up. I would have thanked Dan for a job well-done in putting Rhody basketball back on the map and wished him well.Blue Man wrote:Ye of little faith...
I think you are right Rod. My guess is that Thor and Dooley have been way out ahead of this.rodfromcranston wrote:Good! Must make some people so sad.
Our coach turns down the Big 10 and now the NBE.
Our Athletic Department is so far ahead of Petro's that
messed up the Harrick return.
Eat shit, suckers!

Yes. Sampson decommitted from St. John's. Dan turned down St. John's. Sampson is Christion Thompson's HS teammate. Let's get him. Makes sense to me...theblueram wrote:it's over. Let's get some recruits and kick some ass next year.
What did he do? I actually thought he was fair in his few comments/contributions.Tom98 wrote:Where is that prick Jim Donaldson now???
I don't think he's opposed to this, but, it takes time to foster those connections, and unfortunately for him, I'm not sure how much his college coaches can help him, given their respective positions. He's a young guy though, so, he's got time to work himself into better situations, especially if BC can make any noise at all the next few years.RhowdyRam02 wrote:I will agree with RoadyJay in one respect. Preston is doing his career no favors being the second or third assistant at BC. The paycheck might be better, but if he aspires to be a head coach it's vital that he gets a higher level position on a different staff or a head position.
Subtle hints dropped on Thursday... Dr. Dooley and Thorr were proactive. Dan wanted increased commitment, deservedly so. Administration was smart to recognize the value of a top flight men's basketball program led by one Daniel Hurley.ATPTourFan wrote:We're due for the now annual contract touch-up for Dan.

I think PM would turn Fordham around. Hope he gets a chance.....rambone 78 wrote:Preston to Fordham?
Please no. Would kill his career before it even.
you're probably right. I guess you're welcome?RoadyJay wrote:Blue Man wrote:Billyboy78 wrote:Blue Man has heard the news....lol.

Btw Blue Man, and all that were there.... I'm sure the night at Paco's Tacos solidified Dan staying at URI
It is 100% over.CT Rhody wrote:Does anybody think this thing isn't really over? I'll feel better once St John's hires a coach.
Thank you, Jay. Truth spoken. We Rhody fans need to look forward and consider that starting next season, URI will be in a position to be in the Top 25 discussion or ranked throughout the season.RoadyJay wrote:And one thing I need to get off my chest... Please, let's stop with the Preston Murphy talk. I sincerely love Preston as much as we all do on this board. I think he will one day be a successful head coach. But let's be real. We have a Top 25 program now and Preston is not qualified to be the head coach here. He has been a very strong recruiter and assistant coach, but he is not ready to be the head coach here. He will need to prove himself as a head coach in a lower level conference before he will be worthy of a head coaching gig in the A10 conferece, nevermind our Top 25 Rhody Rams!
