So this was the "solution" Thorr was talking about.

Will be interesting to see what the new numbers in the deal are.

It is such a different [and good] feeling, to know that URI has, and will continue to make the necessary commitments to support the program.

Not sure it was a lack of faith in this situation... I want Dan Hurley as our coach for the foreseeable future, but I would not have begrudged him one bit if he took the St. John's job. Anyone would be hard-pressed to turn down 2-3 times their salary to coach for a program rich in basketball tradition and success greater than Rhody's... and essentially in the backyard where you grew up. I would have thanked Dan for a job well-done in putting Rhody basketball back on the map and wished him well.

And one thing I need to get off my chest... Please, let's stop with the Preston Murphy talk. I sincerely love Preston as much as we all do on this board. I think he will one day be a successful head coach. But let's be real. We have a Top 25 program now and Preston is not qualified to be the head coach here. He has been a very strong recruiter and assistant coach, but he is not ready to be the head coach here. He will need to prove himself as a head coach in a lower level conference before he will be worthy of a head coaching gig in the A10 conferece, nevermind our Top 25 Rhody Rams!

I think you are right Rod. My guess is that Thor and Dooley have been way out ahead of this.
I think also we can credit the relationship that Thor, Dooley and Hurley all have as well. They have an excellent working relationship and they are achieving success at the same time.
Just fantastic news for URI today.

I would seriously doubt Dan would sign this new deal and then bolt, no matter what.

Especially with the St. Johns job currently open. I don't think he's Steve Alford.

Dan's got the job security and the money he wants. He's got the commitment from URI. They have done their part.

He now has a job to [continue] to do. And it's up to the rest of us to help.

I will agree with RoadyJay in one respect. Preston is doing his career no favors being the second or third assistant at BC. The paycheck might be better, but if he aspires to be a head coach it's vital that he gets a higher level position on a different staff or a head position.

I don't think he's opposed to this, but, it takes time to foster those connections, and unfortunately for him, I'm not sure how much his college coaches can help him, given their respective positions. He's a young guy though, so, he's got time to work himself into better situations, especially if BC can make any noise at all the next few years.

ATP, when Dooley was hired, I thought it meant doom for our flagship sports.

He seemed to be much more on the academic side of things, and not a big supporter of athletics.

Couldn't have been more wrong. Thank God for that.

This contract extension announcement was perfect in it's timing. We got our answer.

Great News on Hurley! Now I continue my belief that Dan Hurley is a different kind of man, a different kind of coach, a man with different and higher values than many others. His possession of these higher values is precisely why PC can't fathom this move by Hurley. How can a fan base and an academic administration that bans speakers and plays ever begin to understand higher values when their own values are so low. They are hypocrites and phonies.

that there were no worries.
Being paranoid from past URI coaching experience, it was
