Well, I'll put Steve Chubin in the mix. He could shoot and he played well in the big games. He may have had his days off the court, but he was serious business when the buzzer sounded.

A recent name that I haven't seen mentioned yet is Seawright. One of the most talented post players we have had in recent memory. Truely skilled post player on both ends to compliment Hassan's athleticism.
And yea... Jimmy would be huge for this team when defenses decide to go zone on us and we cant do anything.

Kick it to Seawright on the high post when the offense goes dead... he was a really good passer for a big too.

How in the world did this team miss the tournament with Will Daniels, Jimmy Baron, Kaheim Seawright, Lamonte Ulmer and Keith Cothran all on the same team? Just mind boggling.
And Delroy James was also on that team but hadn't really began making an impact yet.
But seriously that team was every bit as talented as any of the Harrick teams.

But who's the PG on that team? Harrick had Wheeler. That's the difference.scine20 wrote:How in the world did this team miss the tournament with Will Daniels, Jimmy Baron, Kaheim Seawright, Lamonte Ulmer and Keith Cothran all on the same team? Just mind boggling.

Believe me, this is not defending Baron. Far from it I'm just disputing that you think that team was as good as the '98 team.Billyboy78 wrote:But who's the PG on that team? Harrick had Wheeler. 07-08 he went for: 11.8 ppg, 4.7 ast, 2.5 reb, 49% fg, 51% 3pt, 79% ft, 1.9 a/to

Re: If You Could Add Any Former URI Player To This Team.....
Of all of CFL's players, I'll take Will Daniels over any of those mentioned.
He was a better offensive player, inside and out than anyone since
Lamar Odom.
These guys who only knew CFL's player, wouldn't be able to stand up
if they saw a highlight film on Sly Williams.
As for CFL's giant flop team, did they have an NBA player? No.
Did they have a first class PG? No.
Did they have an ARD? No.
Did they have a real big, like Luther Clay? No.
Just a collection of athletes with no chemistry, and no leadership to
sustain a mediocre coach.

God that season was so painful. I went to the game at UMASS and we had a tough loss. After barely scraping by Fordham in the next game we proceeded to lose 7 out of the last 8. 19-3 to 21-12 that year. It still hurts...

Bitee was very good. I should have included him as well.
The 97-98 team clearly was better. But the more talented team? That's up for debate.

The 07-08 team also had Joe Mbang off the bench. was a freak athlete and a huge energy boost when in there.scine20 wrote:Bitee was very good. I should have included him as well.

This team had 20 wins in 24 games and didn't make the friggin NCAA tournament. It's just hard to fathom.skwalk47 wrote:God that season was so painful. I remember that one week where they lost 3 straight games, all at home, and the team just looked lifeless by the 3rd one (against St. Joe's).

Admittedly, I don't know URI teams pre late 90's.rodfromcranston wrote:Of all of CFL's players, I'll take Will Daniels over any of those mentioned.

Will Daniels was my favorite Baron era player, hands down. I liked Duwan Robinson as well. I remember when we were within a minute or so of taking down #1 St. Joe's at the Ryan with Dickie V calling the game. Delonte West caught fire at the end and we couldn't keep up.

I wish we could roll Drob out there to win the game when we need a last shot before the buzzer.

Jimmy Baron or Cattino Mobley. If they had a consistent 3pt threat, they would own the A10.

Dude, right now there isn't a team that can beat us, unless we beat ourselves.
That happened tonight, in spades.
NOBODY shot the ball well, except for Hassan. And he couldn't make a FT when it counted.
I thought Jarvis and Terrell had turned the corner, freshmen or not. Nope.

Re: If You Could Add Any Former URI Player To This Team.....
Again, Hurley would never even have recruited a player
who couldn't play defense.
Even Jimmy's father used to play offense/defense at the end of games
with him.
Helenga was a bulldog. Loved him. Clutch, too. Used to kill PC.
I bet Hurley would have loved him.
Rambone, stop with the 3,000 negative posts. We lost a game by a point.
So what? These are the same players they were against UMass.
They don't suddenly suck.

No, Mulfinger was 1962-65. Pretty decent player.
