They had their nicest play in 2nd half with Jarvis, JT, EC, Hassan and Earl. What's TJ though there was 3 minutes left? Does Dan do anything besides go to EC? Everyone even those idiot announcers know what is going to happen

I want to punch someone in the goddamn face. I need to leave now before I completely melt down and have to ban myself.

This is the worst loss of the Dan Hurley era. I would say by a pretty wide margin.

Basically agree with Gio.
There is our first BAD loss - to a team we are clearly better than.

Hated the substitution pattern, team wasn't aware of time and score down the stretch. Bad game management in last 3 minutes and bad execution. EC was going to have a clean look if he didn't fumble away that pass. If our starters played more we win by 10.

Talk about the February swoon. Welcome to the last 5 minutes of the game tank.

This game hurt more than others for me. Absolute choke.

Hassan is a game changer. Can't afford the 1st half moving screen foul.

EC sometimes forgets how to play basketball the same way ken Griffey jr used to forget how to hit home runs.

UMASS hit us in the mouth, we quit.

Same story, different day. It just feels worse because we are a better team. This is how we lose games. I'm used to it, I can't get upset anymore because of how frequently this happens. Maybe something will change, but for now we can't win the close ones.

Why wasn't Jarvis out there every minute in stretch. Its very clear offense runs much better with him out there. Biggie shouldn't be out there and even TJ. I like him as much as anyone, but regardless of how he rarely comes out. He shouldn't be bringing the ball up at the end. He's walking the ball up with 14 seconds left.

Key rebounds down the stretch killed us. Gil or Earl needed to be in there with Hassan. Another fumble by our coach IMO.

WTF! Is it every game that's close that Matthews messes up
at the end?
Shit everyone got on X, but at least he made some big shots.
EC is a turnover machine. Can we cut this NBA crap?
This is a very tough one to take. We could not get a rebound when we needed it.
Dan better find someone else to take the last shot, because EC
is clearly NOT the man.
Butterfingers Biruta drops a rebound out of bounds, instead of scoring two.
Martin played his butt off, as usual, but nobody else comes to mind.
Maybe Jarvis with 6 assists and only 2 turnovers.
What a disgusting way to lose. Blow a 6 point lead, and look toallly
helpless down the stretch.
Yeah, we don't need big men, right?

The not ready for primetime players.

Looks like nothing's changed from the Baron years. Can't beat anybody decent. And UMass is barely decent.

Our lack of depth KILLS us. We can't count on any backups to do anything.

You have to admit it though. Some little used backup comes in and makes 3 3's in a row.

Total bullshit.

It's just not meant to be, even now. NIT? Long shot!

We are doomed. Either we win our next 4, or forget meaningful postseason.

UMass got the ball back up 1 with 1:17 left and had it for over a minute thanks to two offensive rebounds and our refusal to foul their worst shooter. Two FTs later, ball game. The game could have been six or seven possessions longer. Bad coaching on a number of levels: personnel, strategy, preparation.

I dont get why is this a bad loss? We're a bad team right now and so is UMass, I'd actually say UMass is a horrible team, just a dysfunctional team who has no clue on offense (like us) UMass was favored to win the game and they won on their home court. Bad losses ended after the pc game, because once that game ended so did our at large chances. The VCU game was just the nail on the coffin. EC is a true enigma, I expect some of puzzling things he does from a lesser player, not from a player who is expected to play in the NBA someday. Hassan has been the best player on the team this year and looks more like the NBA prospect. We are what we are, an NIT team with hope for next year. Onto the next game...

Danny's a young coach as we are a young team. I have to question his substitution pattern as well. He is so strong willed in his beliefs, he may need to be more flexible in some of his thoughts. All great coaches are and part of learning experience for coach as well.
EC, pro talk shouldn't be there. But when its the last shot, everyone knows its the only thing we do. The only thing. Very, very easy to defend.
Hassan shows a nice touch around the hoop. Got a couple of touches, definitely needs to see more. Even Gil, early in game was really asking for ball and every guy basically looked away. I know Gil has struggled in many ways, but has had the ability to score down low at times. Guys taller than 6-4 can score too if given an opportunity.

And the blueram, your point is?

Your point is right. Our starting five is good. Good enough to win this game for sure.

There is going to be a LOT of second guessing of Dan in this one.

I'm sure the excuse will be, the kid who hit the 3's just got lucky. And he sure did.

Even with that, we had our chances.

Every scout out there must have at the top of his list to give his coach, just get URI in a close game with a few to go, and they will find a way to lose.

Same script from the you-know-who years. Just the names are different.

Yes, this was ABSOLUTELY a bad loss!
Just baffling substitution patterns.
Watson should have played in the first half instead of Iffy.
Not sure why anyone is on Biggie's case. 2-2 and 1-1 and ZERO turnovers.
9 blocks is a nice number. Earl 3 and Hassan 4.
15 turnovers to UMass 10.
And we missed NINE free throws, with BYroota 1-5.
7 offensive rebounds to UMass' 18! That's where the game was lost.
For those who think it's OK to play 4 or 5 guards and no bigs, except Martin.
WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
Disgusting and disgusted!

Traveling call on EC was horrendous and the turning point in the game. It was not a rebound that he caught so it was not a travel. Umass then scored 5 straight points to tie the game. Fkin awful call!! Still wonder why TJ was in the game with 14 seconds left down 3. Coach too much in love with him!

We did just win two or three of those. But I agree that even letting one of these go through your fingers is bad, but two in a row is just heatbreaking and infuriating. Totally controlled the game and then just peed ourselves at the end. At least you could kind of see how VCU earned it. UMass is terrible and we just donated the game to them. The refs didn't help, but that is a road game in the conference for you. You have to overcome it, and we could have and should have.

I don't think there is a lot to separate URI, GW, UMass, LaSalle, Davidson and Richmond at this point and there will be a lot of back and forth between these teams beating each other. Dayton will be beat by a couple of these teams as well. Tough, tough losses this week, but if the kids keep playing this way, and improving as they are, they will win there share of games. Where I had questions going into this week, I have no doubt URI is right there with anyone in league with exception of VCU, and better than most. If they continue to work, which I have no reason to believe they won't they will be playing their best as season goes on.

Still 2 very difficult losses to take this week.

Seems the recipe to beat is; take away what EC wants to do, get the ball low on the bigs and get them to the bench for long stretches. Force a couple of TOs and hang around to the late game and make a play or two to go ahead.....becoming a trend.......sadly, welcome to the middle pack of the league. Major disppointment.....hearing fom Dan now...

Jarvis guarding a 6'7" guy, who just shot over him.
was the killer.
I don't fault Jarvis. I fault Dan.
Also, TJ did not have a good game. 2 turnovers and zero rebounds.
Another wasted season for Martin and Matthews, although EC has
shat the bed at the end of the last two games.

Absolutely right about guard play. Forget travel call, even missed fts, UMass size won this game. They got a lot of easy interior hoops and drew a lot of fouls with their size and interior play. Hassan needs help big time. I'm not so sure game is getting smaller, or at least as small as us. 4 guards just isn't going to get it done in the long term, especially when they can't shoot.
Biggie played well, but for me, its gotta be Jarvis in the crunch time.

Rod that play that Coleman hit that shot over Jarvis was a disaster. Someone had to switch back with him and nobody did, and Jarvis fought his ass off for 15 seconds and did a great job, but then Coleman had to throw it up and Jarvis couldn't do anything but hope he missed. That 10-0 run which included the "travel" by EC that should have been 2 FTs for us was the killer.

Rod, I'm with you on playing the bigs.

How could we play 4 guards against their front line? Ridiculous!

Two stats stand out. Gil 1-5 from the line, and gave up 18 offensive rebounds.

Every time we play UMass, we lose on those same things: FT's and rebounds.

They make them, we miss. They rebound, we don't. Always at the end too.

This wasn't a totally blown game however. A couple key bad calls, and that Coleman kid went nuts for a couple minutes. Bad luck there.

But it always seems to happen to us, and shows no signs of stopping!

UMass is supposed to be the undisciplined team. Against us, they can do no wrong.
