Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
No doubt the program though Dan and Preston, with EC's success
and TJ being captain and staff staying with Hare,
has built up some goodwill in the Michigan area.
If they choose to keep recruiting there, is another matter.
Bobby will, because he had Nate Oates.
Nothing in Cox's or Murray's past suggests they ever did much in
the Midwest.

Again, loads of guards and small forwards.
Our biggest need is to replace Gil, but the list of people
here, who fit the bill, is very short.

Falzon or Reuter would be a nice replacement for Gil. Hopefully one of them is a top priority.rodfromcranston wrote:Again, loads of guards and small forwards.

Not completely relevant but it is a little bit, but I didn't realize Javon McCrea played with NE Playaz.

Always skeptical of these new Twitter accounts anyway. Most of what they are saying is probably coming from here.

That's what I thought. But they mention Kerry Blackshear as someone we're recruiting and there is one post on him from May 2nd. Unless they went to page 2 of Recruitment Corner and pulled a name off the page.adam914 wrote:Always skeptical of these new Twitter accounts anyway. I was catching up on a few of these guys and reading through some of the threads. It's entertaining reading, often with a notable shift in tone for posts before, on, or after May 16.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Can confirm, as speculated, this was for the elite camp. I went to Mackal to check it out with my son on Friday night. Can't say why the tweet didn't show up until Sat morning unless some stuck around? But the camp was only one night. Mackal was packed with some serious talent. Nice job by staff setting this up. All of the coaches and many of the players were on hand helping out.
My son also participated in a Skills Camp earlier in the week. What a great experience. Was great to see so many of the players there. Grad Assistant Chirs Martin is one funny dude. Also, a great motivator. TJ was doing a lot of instructing, very vocal with the kids. You can tell he definitely wants to get into coaching. Gil, Iffy, EC, Jared Terrell, JR, Hass, Jordan Hare all were there during camp. Even X made an appearance. Awesome, awesome time!

That kid is a train wreck in so many ways.
I don't think we'd have gotten him away from Memphis, but
still, good decision to cancel his visit here.

Is this issue with Mike Powell still unresolved?
"The Rams have two seniors in Gilvydas Biruta and T.J. Buchanan, but it appears point guard Mike Powell could be a part of the program in 2014-15 and graduate next spring. That means Hurley and his staff are likely looking for a scoring big man and athletic wing this month."

If Powell was a member of the team, I assume he would be in school and with the team right now. I have seen no indication of that.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
It seems likely, based on the rest of the article, that KMac spoke to Hurley yesterday or Monday. If he was going to write about it, I'm sure he asked about it.NHRamFan wrote:More likely a case of KMac either not doing his HW or just stirring up some sh!t.....

Has Powell still being listed as on the team something to do with his academic standing and the scoring of Rhody's APR if he leaves in poor standing?

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
If Mike wants to play, he certainly won't get any playing time here. He wasn't getting any minutes last year when he quit the team. Add Garrett and there's no room for him. But if it's about finishing his education and getting his degree, that's a great thing. We still have an open scholarship and if it's given to Powell, it opens up again in '15.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
I think if he had somewhere he could go play, he'd already be there. If he literally does not get on the court this season and graduates in May, he can go somewhere as a grad transfer and not have to sit out a year - so the earliest he can play is '15-16 regardless. Why not graduate? I'd imagine it would make him more attractive to other programs if he doesn't have to clog up a scholarship for two years, also.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
It only helps the APR situation and the scholarship is open for
the 2015 class.
All it means is, we're not bringing in a 5th year player. Not a big deal.
I'm confused as to if he's going to be with the team or his
scholarship is being carried, so he can stay in school and graduate?
the 2015 class.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
As I stated in the Mike Powell thread, he is not on the team. He IS using the 13th scholarship to pay for his senior year of school for his benefit and the program's (APR).
He will not be on gorhody.com nor will you see him on the bench during games. He's not on the team. He asked for, and was granted, his release.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
So, will he be on campus taking classes? Or will he be taking online classes from Chicago?
0 x
Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
I don't know the answer to this, but I'd think both parties would want him on campus. I'm sure Mike, like any senior in America, would want to be on campus for their senior year. And I'm sure URI would like to keep an eye on him and keep him in their academic support program because their investment on his scholarship only makes sense if he actually finishes and graduates.

We should know by now that Bill Koch is the authority on URI Basketball. He's also quite willing to reply to tweets if you need clarification. He'll say as much as he can tell you.

Looking at the names playing in Philly this week, there are some we're (supposedly) involved with....Reuter, McBrayer, Enoch, Silva, Sanders, Cylla....and Butts is playing too. Of course, there could be interest in names we haven't heard yet also. Maybe Ace is there?CT Rhody wrote:Any word on who Dan Hurley is zeroing in on this weekend?

How the hell many point guards does this team need?
We have two real PGs and two other players who
want time at PG.
Baffling.

KJ Santos (a 6'7" pg, combo guard, wing- depending on who you talk to)-a '16 from Vermont Academy who already has an offer from URI- was playing in that first game against Evans.
In addition, Evans is listing the following schools as ones he's considering: Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Texas, Illinois, Clemson, USC and Virginia Tech.

With all four coaches out on the road, the logistics with these weekends must take months to work out. Surprised we haven't heard more about who the staff has been specifically focused on during these recruiting weekend. Or maybe I just haven't been paying attention.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
A lot of the recruiting guys have really started talking about the 15 vs 16 classes, with the 16 class being described as being much better. Of course there are great players in the class of 2015, but there seems to be less of a separation between the top ranked and the rest, especially with the PF/C positions.
