Rhody has 20 assists on 25 field goals. I'm not a mathematics major, but that's pretty impressive.

Wow, I love the way we played tonight, but we had some horrendous possessions down the stretch. We did not get a good shot off in the last 1:30 of the game.

Dan is going to take some hits for not calling a timeout with 25 seconds left to at least get a shot off. Players have to know the situation in the last possession.

A little over a minute left and I was thinking how could you not love our team.

Then the rest of the game happened. Not getting a shot from 3 there hurts so much.

Man. Frustrating season. Good effort I guess.

Gil was a disaster down the stretch with TOs and fouls. TJ has to take the shot from the corner for a trey. It is why he isn't a PG.

These two games against UMass really highlight the difference experience makes. They have already taken these lumps and know how to pull out wins at the end, and as the youngest team in the league we're still learning.

we were getting good shots all night, not sure we needed a TO. we got another open look, just the wrong guy.

Gil missed 4 barely contested layups. Another one we should have won. Our offense looks night and day from a month ago, even with no PG.

Chaz Williams an Lalane should have both fouled out. It's plain and simple we do not get the calls. Yes our last minute play has not been good, and yes I'm a homer, but we still don't get the calls.

couldn't agree more....he was wide open. a good PG fixes end of game struggles. X shouldn't be the facilitator of offense. Not his strong suit, but no other choice. X did play well tonight. I am happy X is finishing his career with good games after his early season struggles, he gives everything he has every night.

the refs were bad both ways, first half rebounding a bad execution down the stretch hurt us.

Well, starting next year, we're going to win some of these close games.

Is it lack of respect why we don't get the calls? We don't get them at home either.

Play like this, and we'll win our last two games, and scare the shit out of somebody in NY.

Blue Man, UMass missed 10 FT's. Of course they shot more of them.

Closer and closer we get. A breakthrough is coming. We've proved we can play with almost anybody in the A10 now.

Blaming the refs is weak. It's important to not allow your team to be in that position where the refs can "determine" the outcome of a game, anyhow. I was watching the Umass stream, and the announcers there were complaining about calls all night, too.

We had some extremely rough patches, with too many turnovers and empty possessions, notably towards the end of the game. It was a very winnable game, and I'm expecting to have these type of games be W's in the near future. Remember, Umass has 3 seniors in their starting lineup, including the best guard in the league, and a hell of a shooter off the bench (Davis). Lots to like in both effort and execution (tons of assists tonight), but certainly plenty to work on.

The beauty of the A10 is in it's competitiveness. Even before this game, we can play with any team in the league, although VCU and GW cause us some problems. Anyone else? Bring 'em on.

Call it weak if you like, but I've seen too many of these games, where the officiating stinks. I'm not saying it was the only thing that cost us the game, but Lalane was hanging under the basket all night pushing our guys out of position, yet he always got the call. I said I was a homer, and I'm sticking to it.

Andrew, hopefully by some point next year, we're good enough to put games away before it gets down to the last couple of minutes.

I think we will, as long as our new pieces [Garrett plus ?] develop like EC and Hassan have done, and become major contributors.

We still have to win the close ones, there will always be some of those. Look at St. Louis. They never lose them, or so it seems.

I love TJ, but he's not the guy you want on offense late in a close game. With more scoring options, we will find a way to score in these late game situations more often.

St. Louis has Jett. UMass has Williams. We have ? Next year, they're gone, and we have a one year older and better EC, and Garrett. I like those odds.

Don't blame the refs, you are seeing the game through Rhody Blue eyes. They are a veteran team and find a way to close out games. I like the way this young team can go into their house and compete. We will win these games in the coming years. In Hurley we trust!

The last, and biggest hurdle to overcome, is to win the close ones.

We are getting consistently better, with less hiccups than before.

And don't you think our A10 opponents know it too. They know we're getting closer.

We just got the biggest piece we need to overcome that hurdle in Garrett. We still need more, but I'm confident now we'll get it.

I keep reminding myself that Hurley is also growing as a coach and he will only get better with experience. The team's performance in the past 2 games as well as the Garrett verbal have given me hope that better days are ahead for us.

Don Kaull said in the post game "URI has really struggled all year with 20-25 seconds left in games". He said TJ has to take that wide open 3 point shot. Luke Murray also said TJ has to take that shot with 8 seconds to go.
For URI to then take the ball inside for 2 after having had it with 25 seconds to go was absurd.
Kaull also said that they are obviously going to over play EC and Munford on that series which they did - so it is natural that a guy like TJ or Biruta is going to get the open shot.
Have to agree with others all year long that the plays drawn up for the last play of the game have been weak and/or poorly executed.
We can talk about next year but this has gotten old. To not take the open 3 basically took away any chance at all to tie the game.

Good competitive effort no doubt but you have to close out games like this.

With TJ it's most likely a confidence issue. You have to have the "I'm making that shot" mentality.

The end of this game at least had us open for shots. If EC gets the ball when he was open at the top of the key, he would have shot it, for sure.

The little things win games. We're still missing those little things. How many games this year, if only one or two plays go differently, do we win instead of lose? Half a dozen?

Andrade's tweet says it all. Next year, we turn the corner. The year after, we turn the corner into the NCAA tournament.

Don Kaull said TJ should have taken the wide open 3 point shot he had. Luke Murray cam on the post game show and said the same thing. Kaull even said TJ himself knew he should have taken it as soon as the game ended.
In addition Kaull said URI looked confused about whether they should be taking a 3 or taking a 2. Also Kaull said URI has not handled the last 20-25 seconds of games well all year.
We all know that EC or Munford should be taking that show, but we also know everyone in the Building knows that too including the UMASS players so the URI players have to know it too.
Odds are TJ misses the shot but to not take the shot the odds are you will not make it.

99 percent of putts that are hit short of the hole don't go in.

Have to call it like it is, out end of half and end of game possessions have been poor just about all year.

If TJ doesn't have the confidence to pull the trigger on that shot then the Coaching staff needs to work wiht him on it.

What in the world do we have to lose in taking the shot anyway? We might end up losing the game? We have won 3 games - the lowest predicted win total was 7 games.

I like the job Hurley has done, and will do in the future. I predicted 15 wins which would have been about double last year's total, so I am not so disappointed as most here but I am disappointed with the end of half and end of game play calling AND execution. I expected better in this department.

Does he get too much caught up in the emotion of the game? Too much engaged in what the referees are doing to us at the time or what they might do to us? I don't have any idea only that I have come to expect disappointment at the end of games and at the end of halfs.

Ramster, I expect improvement in late game situations next year. Don't you?

Getting Garrett for starters, is a big reason of course.

Now if we flopped in the recruiting dept., then I wouldn't be as optimistic. Having the same players come back [minus X] wouldn't inspire much confidence in our ability to turn that around, even with expected improvement from those players.

ramster in end of game situations i tend to think its more execution than design.

i dont understand why we dont have 1 or 2 lob plays to hassan per game. the out of bounds play Umass ran where Putney dunked, is the same play Arizona runs with Gordon...they do it often and it works a lot. we should have that play and 4-5 others that involve lobbing it and letting Hassan outjump people.

3rd or 4th game in a row with an EC to Hassan for a flush. will be seeing that for many years to come.
