Despite the new high-major suitors, both Rhode Island and Marquette continuing to be high on Garrett's unofficial list according to Notre Dame Prep head coach Ryan Hurd.

I thought rankings aren't the end all now we give a kid grief because he thinks he can beat out the #53 player? C'mon. I want a PG who thinks he is the best player on the floor. He did not commit to URI and then back out. For all we know, he has told the staff this is where he stands. The reality is if URI wants to be involved in competing with Oklahoma State or Indiana or Marquette, this is how it goes. Of course, have to win some of them eventually.
The reality, in this case, was URI was not competing against Marquette and Indiana, neither of which has offered and likely won't. URI was competing with Creighton and teams like that who Garrett has eliminated. In the end, URI was competing against itself and he decided he doesn't want to go to URI. Hurley and Preston will move on. They did a great job recruiting him and it didn't work out. Garrett's mistake was that he announced, through his coach, that it was down to URI and Marquette and he would make a decision on Sunday. That was odd considering Marquette hadn't offered. He should've waited. But 18-year-olds make mistakes.
Iggy says we're out. I'll tend to believe Iggy over Finkelstein.

Finkelstein's report was written yesterday.
He's very close to N.E. prep programs and coaches.
Things are fluid, and kids change their minds at the drop of a hat.
Until we sign a PG or Garrett declares elsewhere,
anything's possible.

Not knowing anything about the situation, and not having any "sources," I'm going to keep an open mind until he signs somewhere on the dotted line.

Would love to have him here, without question.

Yeah I think this board in general overreacted to him pushing his decision back and took it too personally. He may not end up here, but is still be glad to have him. This is a big decision for these kids. I don't expect them to rush it for our sake if they aren't ready to make the call.

Oh, I would still love to have him. He's exactly what we need. I just assumed that Iggy had spoken with someone at URI and found out that he turned us down and that Preston and Dan had moved on. I agree that it could have changed.

Well, looking at a wing scorer in Detroit and having
Gustys visit, only means they're looking to
help get more talent for next year.
Again, we have 3 scholarships and multiple needs
to fill.

Is this guy worth the effort of the staff. I'm sure they know where his academics stand but Notre Dame Prep has had a very shady record the last few years with the NCAA not clearing most of their student/athletes.. If you look at the size of the student body you wonder if is a school or just a basketball program. 42 Students in grade 7 to 12+
Interesting article on the school and the NCAA ( it is over a year old)

We don't know anything about Jarvis' academics. It's unfair to group him with others. He might be a very good student for all we know.

Especially given that the article is from year and a half ago, I'm sure the coaching staff is well aware of the previous issues at NDP and has done their due diligence on that aspect of Jarvis' recruitment.

I don't know where this perception is coming from that his recruiting has blown up. He hasn't received any additional offers since his "undecision." And that includes Marquette and Indiana.

Interest is very different than a real offer.
I still think he's hoping something opens up up at Marquette.
We may still get him, by default.

It would be kind of funny if he did end up here anyway after all the back and forth. I hope it happens, and if it does I hope people don't think any less of the kid because he decided to take some more time to make a decision. Whatever the reasons.

Yeah something tells me that all would be forgiven in about half a second if he did sign with URI. I don't really get why anyone would be angry at him anyways. It is his decision and he should only make it when he's ready. No fault with him on that.

Add one or two more, like Garrett and a wing or big.

I was told today that Marquette is getting in on Anas Osama Mahmoud. No, he's not another PG, but a highly rated 7 footer. But, it's another scholarship if they get him. Minnesota is high on his list.

And they're already over committed by one scholarship for next year and they don't need a PG. wonder why they haven't offered

If I have to choose between Garrett and everyone else we are after combined, then it would be Garrett in a second. A solid PG is the main missing link now. Think about how good EC would actually be if he has a true point guard? The fact that he's doing what he's doing now without a PG is downright scary. Hassan will be a force in this league and I'm not ready to give up on Gil and the Big O just yet. If we get this kid then pull up that wagon cause I'll jump right on again.

Maybe we have a 5th year guy as backup plan at PG...ie Mark Lyons from Xavier to Arizona. Obv on a different level, we aren't going to get someone like that. But perhaps they have a 1year band aid in play so they focus on a higher rated PG for 15?

BAR - I don't mind a bandaid at point for next year. Would rather that than take on a 4 year guy we don't think is up to the job.

I think we need at least 1 four year guy in this class.

It's funny though. His coach keeps talking him up, but no reports of any offers since he delayed his decision.
