SMU completely dominates #7 Cincinnati, 76-55 and ends the Bearcats 15 game winning streak. Life is a bitch on the road. The win should propel SMU into the updated Top 25 rankings when they are released on Monday.
We've got to get that kind of treatment from the refs at the RC against them.
It's only justice.
This is one thing holding the A10 back. Their refs, by and large, are terrible.
I seriously think the refs want to add more A-10 teams to the Dance.
How is VCU losing to St. Joes going to add more teams? Until tonight St. Joes only has 1 good win all season, and that was a 5 point home win against then #21 UMass who was on a downward spiral at the time.
VCU, SLU & GW are in the tourney if it started today, but St. Joes would not be. I just don't see how you make a case they could be in.
All I know is, I hope LaSalle beats the living hell out of of them in their next game & the last regular season game.... and for goodness sakes... can someone get rid of that stupid hawk they have

Well it's hard for them not too, when the # of fouls is completely 1 sided.... at one point midway through the 2nd half VCU had 17 total fouls, SJU had 6 total, and one was intentional at the end of the first half..... tell me that's not one sided.
If we looked at them wrong, breathed on them wrong... we got a foul, but yet if they did the same thing to us.... nothing happens.
And like someone else said.... that "charge" called on Treveon Graham at the end of the game... was not a charge at all

I think sometimes the refs try to build a team's resume when they know another team is a lock. Do I think SJU is a NCAA team, hell no? But, CBS seems to think they are for some strange uneducated reason.
Here's some breakdown of our stats this season & how we do based on them:

Here's the line of the night for Melvin Ejim 6'6" SF on a very exciting team,
Iowa State.
20-24 FG, 2-2 3PT, 6-6 FT, 18 REBS. 48 points.
I've seen them play a few times this year, and this team is fun to watch.
Oh, and the much ballyhooed 5 star Chris Walker, played 4 minutes in tonight's
game.
Wonder how many minutes Murphy will see with the Gators?

watched this game today... One of the broadcasters mentioned his career high was 22 points, which he has hit 5 different occasions... I guess he got over that hump.
he shouldn't have pushed the guy but in the heat of the moment being called a racial slur by a grown man I can see the reaction (prob will be susp a game or 2 if racial slur is true)
"People need to realize that there are serious consequence for racism"
Bullshit! Answer words with violence?
If Jackie Robinson tried to physically confront everyone who called him a name,
there would be no legend of the man. He'd have been jailed.
I don't care what some yahoo said, you don't go in the stands and shove someone.
Plus the double standard. Blacks use the N word very freely, and yet claim it's
such an awful word. So, what is it? It's a word you call your friends or a
racial slur? Can't have it both ways.
At my college in the 70's the Black students demanded their own dorm section and their own cook!
We put an end to that by demanding an Italian section and an Italian cook.
Racism works both ways. Black on white crime somehow, isn't viewed as racist by
the corrupt liberal media, but when an Hispanic killed a Black kid in Florida, it was racism,
and a national story.
Was there a national story when three Black men killed a waitress in Maryland over her tip money?
No. Or an 85 year old veteran, killed by a gang of Black kids in Seattle?
Again, can't have it both ways.
Marcus Smart is a punk, whether he's black, white, red or brown. Punks come in all colors.
He didn't "go into the stands". He was 3 feet away from him after a play ended. I think the kid showed remarkable restraint; considering the circumstances. He shoved the guy in the shoulder. Not everybody is Jackie Robinson. I'm sure Jackie had his share of scrapes over the years.

He went through an old lady to get to him. If the fan said something racist, ban him for life. But, Smart needs to walk away. You cannot go ' the artist formerly know as' Ron Artest on fans. Smart has acted holier than now since Kevin Durant came to see him play.
FWIW, Alex Foster, who we recruited, is getting minimal time at Texas Tech.
In fact, other than Hallice Cooke at Oregon State, most of the guys we recruited are not getting
significant playing time.
Does that mean they're playing on such good teams that they sit and watch,
or are they not as good as advertised, or a combination of both?
If it's the latter, what does that say about our talent evaluation?
Just throwing it out there, gang.
you mean the old lady who is running her mouth a mile a minute at him? Please don't compare this to Ron Artest. 100% apples and oranges. He didn't even make the guy take a step back. Outside of a set of soiled drawers. The guy is fine. Not his first run in with opposing player either. Real class act.
Here's my take on the situation with Marcus Smart:
Personally I think both Smart needs to get suspended.... and the fan needs to get banned from attending games again.
Smart needs to be suspended for at least 3-5 games, no matter what the fan said... you have to be able to control yourself, and not let your emotions get the best of you. If the fan says something derogatory to you like the N word, then you need to tell the refs, or tell the security in the building or something... but not go after them, even if he's making obscene or derogatory gestures towards you.
The fan also needs to be banned from attending games there ever again. Apparently this is not the first time he has said something or made a derogatory or obscene gesture towards players before. Apparently it happened in 2010 against Texas A&M, tho supposedly the AD at Texas Tech, says he did not see the last instance as "crossing the line". Well he certainly crossed the line this time, whether or not he called Smart the N word or not, he said something that got Smart's immediate reaction.
After he fell, and got back up, he instantly turned around reacting to what the fan said, and even after he turned around, the fan was still jawing at him. So it's obvious the fan said something out of the ordinary fan harassing a player.
Now, we all know that fans like to harass the players, and try to take them off their game & mindset.... but we don't use racial slurs or derogatory comments of that nature.
Both situations need to be handled, and Texas Tech needs to have security in that section, to prevent situations like that happening again.
Ironically that guy from the stands is widely regarded as their "#1 Fan". Some fan base they have, if all their fans are like that.
Good assessment, Rowdy. That video showing Smart's reaction clearly indicates, ALONG WITH the txt that fan sent which Doug Gotleib tweeted (see above), that something out of the ordinary taunting was said. Marcus still can't react that way with physical contact.

Do you think I'm really comparing him to Artest? Priceless. It's a universal term for overstepping the line with fans.
It is not ok to have physical contact with fans (unless you are diving for loose ball) no matter how awful an opposing fan is and what that fan says.
Just because the fan didn't flinch does not make Smart's action any less worse.
Both parties should be punished. Ban the fan for life. And you have to suspend Smart for at least 3-5 games because if you don't, a horrible precedent will be set and you'll see players get into these confrontations more frequently.
it's the heat of the moment and emotions are running high yet a 19 year old kid is not supposed to react to a guy (in his 40s at least) yelling go back to Africa? The answer wasn't violence he shoved the guy, he didn't start kicking and punching the guy he shoved. I'm sure the guy has had worse done to him in his life.
There was a report from one of the Oklahoma networks that the fan added the N word after he said go back to Africa. A former OSU player said that whenever he played in Lubbock the same fan called him a N. If thats the case why hasnt the fan been removed? I understand that he is a booster but there has to be a line.

Yeah, very true. I guess in reality the best thing would be for him to try and be the bigger man and ignore the guy. But damn thats alot easier said than done.

Smart has to realize he has much more to lose in this situation than a racist, ignorant jackass does. If he did as some suggested and kicked this loser's ass, well then Smart gets not only suspended from college hoops, but arrested for battery and probably a civil lawsuit.
He is a top 5 player in the NCAA and will be a star in the NBA. He needs to work on his fuse or he'll get himself in real trouble. The reality is in this world, some people are assholes, but when you have more to lose, you need to ignore it and not respond with violence no matter how hard it may be.
RhowdyRam02 wrote:3 game suspension for Smart. If the rumors of what the fan said are true hopefully it will result in some kind of ban for him as well.
#1 fan is likely a code phrase for #1 donor.
The racial piece certainly warrants a discussion, but the only color that matters to TT is green (cliche alert). They won't touch him.
He has agreed to not go to anymore games this year, and swears he did not make those comments, but called him "a piece of crap". I have a hard time believing that Smart reacted that way from being called a piece of crap.

ESPN showed the raw video/audio of the cameraman who was knocked over and apparently that was all he said. Take it for what it's worth.
If a racial slur was used, why didn't anyone during the OSU press conference mention it? Smart, Ford and the AD all spoke and nobody referenced what this guy said to Smart. It would change the perception of everyone jumping on Smart.
Go to the 1:40 mark on the video below to hear what sounds like "you piece of crap!".
