What the hell is this shit? I don't think Rhody played terrible, but why is Fordham doing stuff like making clutch shots? That doesn't seem like the Fordham I know and love so much.

Because he missed some free throws? Seems harsh. We need to be a better free throw shooting team, period. But getting a player less talented than X who can shoot free throws won't really help. I'll miss X unless we somehow replace him with someone better.

His FT shooting cost us the game, really. 3-8, with missed 1 and 1's.

But giving up 85 points to Fordham? Ridiculous. They forgot how to guard people.

Good shooting or not, you can't leave people wide open all night.

We'll beat them by 20 at home, but so what.

Just when you think this team has turned the corner, they drive off a cliff.

Munford shot better from the field (6-10) tonight than from the ft line (3-8).

Can't say I am surprised by this loss. At least this year we get them a 2nd time to avenge losing at RHG.

TJ was definitely having some cramp issues. This was a game where the depth issues hurt big time. TJ had to play through it when it was clearly limiting him defensively. But with X being in some foul trouble as well, there was really no choice but to play TJ and it led to some very easy Fordham shots for their guards.

11 missed free throws, not much more to look at. Decent effort tonight against team who plays poor defense. Losing to Fordham is such a tough pill to swallow even on the road, it just shows you how far we have to go. At VCU with an 8 man roster who is foul prone is likely to be a very discouraging trip for our Rams. Hassan Martin is going to be a beast in this league, hoping we land the point guard this week.

TP, you're right about X. Poor FT shooting or not, we are in a world of hurt if we can't recruit someone to take his place, whether it's a SG or PG.

To me, the PG is an absolute must, or it's going to be more of the same next year.

Not the way I expected this game to go. URI couldn't stop the trey and also stop their shooters off the dribble. Too many second, third, fourth chances for FU. EC and Hassan were great as was JR. Other than a great finish, XM was a no show. GB had too little help and JR gives you very little inside. Again, MA or JH would have helped enough to win this one.

Hey Gil, #30 Rhoomes, a sophomore, made you his bitch tonight. Let them get three offensive RBs on one possession and then you retaliate with a weak baby elbow? Playback the ORB and put back at the 2:30 mark. I hope Watson does this to you in practice the next 1 1/2 years.

Their center with his offensive rebounds, and Frazier played the games of their lives.

I guess I'll use the excuse that we are missing Baron, Hare, and Aaman, so that's why we lost.

It is true, though.

That and CYO level FT shooting, but what else is new?

Wow! We just lost to a team that lost 8 of its last 9.
Missed 11 free throws, but we shouldn't talk about that.
Made Brenden Frazier look like Michael Jordan.
Could absolutely not get a stop when we needed it.
Biruta was great when he was in the game. Just stupid fouls,
including that technical right in front of the ref.
X was 6-10, but fouls hurt, as well as disgusting 3-8 free throw shooting.
Matthews was great, but only two shots in the last six minutes. 8-14.
I'd like to see him be more aggressive in looking for his shot.
Reischel played his best game since November. No complaints there.
Martin started off great. Still 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks.
TJ continues to play hard, but he's just not a point guard.
Oneykaba, a no show.
Our defense in the second half stunk. How many points in the paint on
offensive rebounds?
Just a discouraging loss to a bad team. Every time I think we've turned the corner
with a good win, we lay an egg in the next game.
Now we have VCU and UMass. Maybe we can win a game we figured for a loss>.
Oh, and the telecast SUCKED! Those clowns never told us who was in or out of the game.
They never said Biruta wasn't playing because he had two fouls. ESPN had him with one,
so I wondered if he was injured.
They were babbling without calling the game. Surprised at Vin Parise, who's usually pretty sharp.

Very disappointing loss. Fordham hit the boards harder and scrambled to get most of the loose balls. Those factors plus the normal poor free throw shooting added up to another loss. This team has a very good chance to finish 3-13 in conference or 4-12 at best. So that would put them at either 12-19 or 13 -18 for the season. The only remaining games I give them any chance of winning are at home against Fordham and Richmond and they might not win either of those games either. If that happens they would end up 11-20, not much better than last year. Obviously, they have to get a very high caliber shooter, a point guard and a true center before this team will be ready to compete with the upper tier of the A 10. It was so frustrating to watch Fordham penetrate with ease. Can't any of our guards play tough defense? And there is no help from our front line when penetration occurs. Just as frustrating was the parade of missed free throws while Fordham calmly and routinely made two of two. If you can't beat fordham, who in the A10 can you beat? I better go cool off and begin hoping against hope for a win at home against UMSS because they have no chance at VCU.

RF1, and what makes it worse, is that Fordham still sucks.

We made them look 10 times better than they are.

On their board, they've complained that none of their players can make a shot when it counts.

Well, tonight they just about made them all.

Calm down.
We beat LSU, Dayton, played St Louis and PC down to the last play.
If you don't think we can beat Duquesne, St, Joe's and Fordham at home, then
you haven't been watching.
Of course, after watching this crappy Fordham team outhustle us tonight,
I get the discouragement.

Both sets of Rams suck. Ours played no defense tonight and deserved to lose. If you can't stop Fordham from practically scoring at will, you are pretty bad.

Rhody probably will not have a winning record again the rest of season.

Yeah, we made a horrible offensive team look great tonight.

We're still going to win 3 or 4 more league games, I'm not worried about that.

The reality is, when we play well, we can compete against good teams.

When we play poorly, we can still lose to anybody. We're just not good enough to just roll the balls out and win games.

Dan knows this, he's said it.

To me, what happens on the recruiting front in the next couple of months, is way more important than what happens on the court the rest of this season.

Oh, I forgot we have Duquesne at home. Maybe we can win that one too and go 13-18 or 14-17. I guess we could beat St. Joes and go 14-17 or 15-16 but that's about it. Still I feel a little better that Duquesne is still ahead on the schedule. Thanks for reminding me of that Rod. Could we possibly play one more great game and beat a good team? God, I hope so because losses to the likes of fordham are a major downer.

Was at the game. My notes should be pretty obvious even just watching on TV.
1. The poor free throw shooting. The trend continues
2. Bad fouls. Refs were calling everything on both URI and FU. We have to play smarter.
3. No defense or stops. We were going back and forth with Fordham the whole game. A couple of stops could have meant a W for Rhody.

Didn't watch and only listened to a little. Looking at the boxscore, it is pretty sad that a team that starts 4 guards and (according to ESPN) has their 2 Forwards and 1 center combine for 50 mins out rebounds us by 6!!! They out rebounded us at both ends. We gave up 19 offensive rebounds! I think this team is similar to some fans who were chalking this one up as a win even before the game started. They don't come prepared to play because they think it will be an automatic win.

The better (not good) team won tonight. Any team that shoots free throws the way we do has no right to expect a victory. I can't remember a worse FT team in Kingston.
I thought a good point guard would make a big difference. Now I see I was wrong. This team has way too many weakness to compete.
On the bright side, JR is playing better. on the negative side, iffy seems to be getting worse. I don't see him developing enough to help us.
A one game winning streak is far from turning the corner.

We could start a show called:

What Not To Do. Think Dan will have them watching tape of this debacle?

Just another learning experience.

Sometimes, basketball is just all about matchups. We seem to match up better against teams like Dayton and St. Louis, who are far more talented than Fordham, but for some reason we struggle against Fordham.

Look at GW and UMass. Teams with good bigs kill us. Tonight, Rhoomes did. Maybe we thought he was nothing, and look what happened.

One thing I DO expect next season, no matter who is playing for us, is better FT shooting.

PC turned their entire team around in one year. Last year, they weren't very good, this year they lead the entire friggin' country in FT shooting.

Even with all our weaknesses, could we imagine where we'd be if we could only shoot 70% as a team from the line?

We know Hassan, Iffy, and Biggie are lousy FT shooters. But X?

NO EXCUSE, DAN. NONE.

How the hell is Dan Hurley responsible for a 74% free throw shooter having a shitty night???????????????????
Are you kidding me?
One thing that improves a team's free throw percentage is
to have a point guard, who shoots them well, especially at the end of games.
For those negative Nels, if you haven't read the recruiting board,
Rokas Gustys a 6'9" center from Oak Hill, one of the nations best prep
programs, will be visiting here Saturday for the UMass game.

Jerry Meyer @jerrymeyer247
Per @Coach_Rick57 Rokas Gustys has unequalled toughness. I'm not going to argue with that.

We also have heavy interest from the number one unsigned point
guard in the country.
So, talk all you want about never being able to do this or that.
We go into next season with Matthews, Martin and Biruta all with one year here,
under their belt. We have The Animal Battista, er Earl Watson in the fold.
We're only into Hurley's second recruiting cycle. Give me a break!

Like Tyson Wheeler against Stanford?

I love Tyson, but the point is a good PG does not guarantee good foul shooting.

It's not all about X, Rod. Well, tonight it was.

It's symptomatic of the entire team. They take turns killing us with bad FT shooting.

Some nights it's one guy. Other nights it's a bunch of them.

The story is, it's always something.

Maybe next year, like you said, we'll get guys in here that can make them, especially when it counts.

X will be gone. O and Biggie will likely be bench players. So there's that.

Yeah, I know X shoots them at 74%. What does he shoot late in games?

I'm out.

How did we get out rebounded by a team that plays 3-4 guards? Fordham recovered their shooting touch and then some, otherwise they would have been toast. X had another bad game at Rose Hill to match the one last year. His FT miss with URI down two with 59 seconds left was a killer. So far this season X has made critical mistakes or missed shots in, by my count, seven games.

X has missed key free throws in the last minute of at least three games. However, he is our best scorer. A true Catch-22.

No, I was responding to Obie.
However, Tyson Wheeler was a terrific free throw shooter from day one, and the
missed free throws at the end of the Stanford game were a total
anomaly.

So I didn't catch the game but we clearly "lost" because of free throw shooting, but really, how did we lose to Fordham when we didn't turn the ball over? We missed 11 free throws to their 7, they hit 2 more 3s with 1 more attempt, a few more offensive rebounds than us, but we shot over 60% from the floor in the second. My point is, there isn't any clear thing that we can point to and say we lost because of X (pun intended), it would simply appear that Fordham was actually a better team... That's not good.

However, Tyson Wheeler was a terrific free throw shooter from day one, and the
missed free throws at the end of the Stanford game were a total
anomaly.
He was 64.8% his senior year. Not great.

He was awesome, no doubt. Saw him put on a clinic at the Mullens Center. Him and Cat were the best backcourt in the 1997-98 season.

Somehow, that 64.8% got lost on me in that great season.
I always remember Tyson making them when it mattered, like the
three with zero on the clock to take Temple into OT.

Skywalk 20-8 deficit in points in the paint on offensive rebounds
trumps even the lousy free throws. There were times when Fordham got three clean shots
in one trip. Most of the damage was in the second half.
You'd think with Gil and X on the bench with fouls in the first half, and we only trailed
by one, that we'd take them in the second half.
Didn't happen. Fordham seemed to have more energy.

I am more upset with Gil's poor defensive play. It is completely inexcusible for him to commit the tech he did. Hurley should bench him for the next game for that. I don't care... that is playing selfish and not thinking of his team. He is the worse defensive player I have ever seen. He commits lazy fouls every game and it needs to stop.
