Pure, deep shooter. Coach's son. Getting A-10 attention after transferring to Vermont Academy. Being tracked by Moore.

Very impressive video, but obviously there needs to be more to his game than that.

I am sure that there is, but I think many of us under-appreciate simply how good even marginal D1 guards can be at shooting the ball.

Matthew Butler famously (infamously?) hit 43-50 3's on his visit here. I'd love to see some game film of this kid to see how well it translates to game speed.

Read the USATodayHSS article to see how he finished the game. I believe he had 9 of their last 11 points and assisted on the other basket. This was against a kid who may skip college because he would be a NBA lottery pick this year. Tyler rimmed out a deep three at the buzzer that wouldve tied the game. This was the biggest game of his life with all the college coaches in attendance. Cal and Ewing were right behind the basket. His star teammate didn’t play.

He transferred to Vermont Academy to play with teammates and against better competition.
Here is a video from last year. Look at the range.

Averaging 17 a game at UT-Martin.

I heard that - good for him! Seems a similar situation to Jarelle Reischel, overall not good enough to crack our rotation for major minutes, but finding success at a lower level.

We have a kid down here in the New Haven area that shoots lights out. Best high school shooter I've ever seen. NBA range. Tyler Thomas at Amity Regional. He has a wrist injury but give him a year of prep, he's one to watch.

I agree. I don’t think Coach Cox is pursuing Tyler. Rhody could get him if they wanted.
Moore was the one who recruited Tyler. UCONN isn’t after him. They only chase 4 star and 5 star recruits.

Definitely a very good shooter. Is he athletic enough to defend at this level? That's the big question.

2 words - Jimmy Baron. You can make him a better athlete, you can work on his D, shooting like that is a gift.

This is the 2nd time you've posted something like this (the other being Noah Fernandes) and it makes absolutely no sense.

Do you want URI to be in a crappy 1 bid conference? Do you want it's RPI to go down?
Do you want the athletic budget to be reduced since we no longer get much in NCAA Tournament credits?
Do you want the athletic budget to be reduced since we probably won't get much money in National TV contracts?
Do you want the home schedule to suck? Do you want ticket sales to go down?

Why do you think bigger schools aren’t after this kids when he clearly shoots it so well?

He may not be great on defense and could lack speed...just a guess.

Small, not athletic, low assist totals (basically a SG), poor rebounder and defender. Unless he learns to play the point or is a Jimmer type shooter I don’t see him being a big time college player.

Small? He is legit 6’4”. Rhody had a guy 6’4” start at PF last year (:
He is a SG. He has a great shooting touch. Scores a lot of points. He isn’t going to play the point.
You have no idea if he is a poor defender. How many of his games have you watched to make this evaluation?

Highlights below from a game vs IMG Academy (top 10 team) and Anfernee Simons who skipped college and was the 24th pick in this year’s NBA Draft. This was at Hoop Hall Classic in front of most top college coaches. Tyler had 31 points in the game hitting 8 threes.

Good for Tyler. He is a nice kid. Surprised a little by the redshirt decision. I can see the pluses & minuses of both a year of college training vs playing another year of prep. An interesting recruiting strategy by Charlotte. Did a similar thing with Hass’ brother by getting him to commit & reclass after he decided to do a PG year. Rhody could’ve done that with a recruit this year.

I like the redshirt decision. Working on his body is more important at this point than playing another year of prep. The kid is a lights out shooter. He now needs to get stronger and quicker so he can get that shot off.
