‘20 NY PF Kareem Reid(Gardner Webb)

Unread post by Matunuck »

Will work on a full profile over the weekend, but in the meantime 247 has him rated as the #90 player in the nation, #18 PF. 6'8",
200 lbs as a HS sophomore. FWIW, he is currently listed as a 3-star; the #90 player in the 2018 class is easily a 4-star; this is a function of having ranked so many fewer players at this point for 2020 class. His raw score is .8875, and the #90 player this year (old friend Jaelin Llewellyn) has a raw score of .9650. I think over the next couple years his score will improve or he will fall down in the rankings. If he keeps growing I'm pretty sure it will be the former.

Playing at the NPSI at RIC this weekend for Putnam Science of CT. Good looking lefty forward. We've had a few of those. Ranked #2 in New England for class of '20.

Never know. We were on his list when he was in the 20 class...

If Reid wants to come here a spot will be made for him.

One way or the other.

I find Borges as a UConn cheerleader. He does get his facts right on UConn though.

UConn is in a decent spot with him. As of now, that would be their last scholarship, but there are 2 guys- and possibly a third- who are considering options (transfer, chronic injuries, going pro).

I saw Reid a couple of years ago at NEPSAC at RIC. He barely got off the bench and when he did, he did nothing. I assume he's improved quite a bit since then.

One thing Reid has going for him is that he's a lefty. As we know, URI has a great history with lefties.

If Hurley wants this kid the chances of us landing him are slim. I believe he was roommates with Akok at Putnam. He loves UCONN.

On UConn: “It’s one of my dream schools and it’s a really good program”

https://247sports.com/Article/Kareem-Re ... 115090724/

He could be a monster in the A10. A lefty who can block shots, has a pretty good handle, and can run the floor.

6'8 with a 7'5 wingspan. Imagine him next to a developed Harris? Scary...

I'm wondering if that's why he reclassified to '19. UConn so far has struck out on the bigs they were recruiting and are still looking for one.

Unnecessary and nonsensical - saying we have a great history of lefties doesn’t mean every lefty we’ve ever had has been a great player.

UConn went hard for Kofi Cockburn and Qudus Wahab making the final list for both but not getting them.

I wonder if UConn would sign Reid if they still think they have a shot at Precious. I also wonder if Reid would want to go to UConn if he knows they still have a shot at Precious.

Coaches go to Final Four so no visits next weekend.

Precious is going to drag out his decision.
If he is UConn’s priority, they will get his commitment this week.

No one wants to leave. Two of the above decided against exploring other options.

Borges’ tweet is from today stating VCU and New Mexico are the leaders. Borges covers (and is a homer for) UConn. He has good internal UConn sources. I would take this as UConn isn’t get Reid.

Yes, that’s what I was referring to.

No one on the UConn roster wants to leave, which means they only have 1, possibly 2 spots to work with, and Reid would not be a primary target. He may end up being a good player, but it’s unlikely he would have much impact next season, which is what they need from that last spot.

Possibly Diarra’s chronically bad knees. He cannot stay healthy and some decisions will have to be made if he’s not medically cleared.

If UConn pushes him out, that could hurt their recruitment of his brother.

Ideally, Diarra is completely healthy and gives them 12-15 minutes a game in a reserve role. The reality is that he has a diagnosed chronic knee condition and has played in 33 games in three seasons. It’s not the staff’s style to push guys out. By all accounts, Diarra is a great teammate and could have a future in the game aside from playing. Even when not playing this past season, he was said to be a good resource for Akok and helped him adjust to college life and sitting out of game action.

You have a low threshold for what you find interesting. Sometimes people engage in a conversation on a thread. Happens quite often, actually.

UConn and URI were also mentioned together in a tweet and Hassan Diarra’s recruitment could be relevant to URI fans. 83 seems to be a fan.

Ace, your insight is always appreciated. You are one of the more informative posters.

I think Hassan Diarra had a great year. It would be great if Rhody has a chance at getting him.

Considering the OOC schedule we're playing this upcoming season we need one more impact player who can contribute regardless of what position he plays. We certainly could use another guard who can shoot it now.
