I think there might be typo in that tweet about the class for Valdir. Every site says 2018. I found no signs of him declaring 2019.

Didn't we offer him a long time ago? (I know that's not the point of this post. I was just wondering)

It looks like his national rankings have been dropping on all the sites. Wonder why and maybe that’s why we think we have a better shot at landing him.

He's had a shoulder injury. That may have led to his fall in ranking.

ST. PAT’S BIG MAN VALDIR MANUEL PLANNING VISITS
HILLSIDE, N.J. — Valdir Manuel, the 6-9 forward from The Patrick School, didn’t sign with a school in the fall and plans to wait until the spring, when he could be one of the most attractive uncommitted big men in the nation.
“He’s going to be the best available big in the country,” Patrick School assistant Ayton Branch said. “He’s the most efficient offensive big man in New Jersey and top five in the country when he wants to play that way.”
Manuel listed Rutgers, Rhode Island, New Mexico, Illinois and Butler among the schools recruiting him now.
“I will take [visits] to Illinois, New Mexico and Rhode Island after my high school season,” he said. “I want to just focus on my season.”
Rhode Island offered him recently and also features former St. Pat’s big man Cyril Langevine.
“Cyril’s my guy, they got Cyril,” he said. “I want to go someplace that I can develop as a basketball player.”
As for Rutgers, where he took an unofficial visit about a month ago, he said, “The coaches say they like the way I play. They want me to go there and play. They like how I compete and they say I can be the next best big man on their team….Yeah, I like the message.”
Manuel will bring a diverse offensive game to college.
“I’m a big who can score on the block, can face up, can block shots and can play outside/inside,” he said.

So it doesn't seem like we're definitely holding the scholarship for a transfer.

Yes, Langevine went to St. Patrick's. Additionally, they are friends.

Yes they are friends. Have not seen Manuel, but if is anything like Bruno Fernando of Maryland , who is also from Angola, I'd love to sign this kid.

I wonder if he's too much of a project. We have enough big man projects now. I think I'd like to see a proven JC or 5th year guy, or even a transfer with that 5th scholly. I've never seen him play, but he doesn't look that special on tape to me.

Never seen him play but this may be a way to even the classes out. If he is a project maybe he is willing to redshirt his Freshman year and is being recruited with that understanding.

Good point. I also wonder if there’s been a shift in the staffs thinking where they look at their present 5 senior team and think this is how you make a very deep run in the tournament.

If he didn’t enroll in Summer Classes, he would be eligible immediately. If he did, he will have the same issue Sidney Wilson had last year transferring to UCONN. I believe he could try to get a waiver from the NCAA.

Theres major character and/or academic concerns here. He’s probably not worth talking about anymore

Our program has moved beyond any level of desperation. Now it's maintaining and building on our winning culture and team-centric approach. Don't rock the boat.

I would almost always be up for taking a St. Pat’s guy. Manuel is going the JUCO route, so it’s likely an academic issue. One Philly guy said he’s going to Harcum. It will be interesting to see what he looks like two years from now.

Manuel is back at Harcum (JUCO). Some are reporting it will be just for summer classes to get his grades up. Could commit in late August. Others are reporting he will enroll there for a full Soph year.

Bump. This is the interesting question. The Rhody offer being made this week (if that is correct) could lean towards a Sept enrollment with the open scholly.

Valdir went to the same school as Cyril. He could come in this year - learn & get some experience and then start next year.

Who knows?

He's already committed/de-committed from Seton Hall, St. Joe's and St. John's. So I guess there's a shot.

Not sure this would be the best guy to get. Guy will leave or change his mind in a heartbeat. Seems like an overrated player with baggage

What if his de-comitments were due to enrollment issues and not being able to get thru admissions? He is from Angola - I don’t know how long he has been in the U.S. Some advising him might not have been doing a good job.

Post last month from Harcum coach mentions Valdir has matured.

UConn checked in on him earlier in the Spring/Summer but couldn’t wait to see how his eligibility would shake out and then he was also less than impressive in a recent JUCO event. I don’t think there are any red flags about character. He came out of a rigorous high school basketball program with plenty of interest from good schools.

Was not so impressive last time period we were recruiting him. I was a pass then and still now.
