Anthony Nelson, NY Lightning/South Kent – Another player who came to New England as a legit prospect in 2016, the 6’4” PG/Wing maintained his reputation during the prep season and continued to elevate it this spring. Nelson has fit into a jack-of-all-trades role for one of the EYBL’s surprise squads while averaging 10.1 points, 5 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2 steals per game. Nelson also added offers from Dayton, VCU, LaSalle, St Bonaventure, UMass and New Mexico to previous scholarship offers from Rutgers, St John’s and Rhode Island. Nelson is bound to find a program who’s in the mix for his services any times he turns on A-10 basketball this season.

For not being in the same conference/level or geographical area, I feel like Minnesota and Rhode Island offer the same guys more than you'd expect. IDK, maybe that's just my perception.

To clarify, are you saying Nelson is looking for money to commit to a school and Hurley doesn't do that?

No No , by saying he IS money, NorthernRamFan means the kid himself is valuable, meaning a good player.

Well I was trying to be polite and just use symbols, but $$$=Cash... I've been told he's going to have a price tag to his commitment from his handlers, at least that's what my connect with his program has mentioned... DH doesn't do pay to play to my knowledge, for that I have a great amount of respect that he's building our program through development and hard work rather than being Bob Huggins Jr lol

Throwing out accusations that a school is going to have to pay to get a commitment from a player is pretty serious.

I wouldn't be throwing that out there out the internet, but that's just me...

I tried to be subtle, the info is from a very good source who's previously worked the "circuit" and for Hoop Group so I trust it, but people can always be wrong from time to time.

Well if that's true, I doubt we'll be getting a commitment from Mr. Nelson.

Nor should we imo......

See, this is why Northern shouldn't have said we he said. He heard a rumor that the student wanted cash for a recruitment and now the student is being called an NCAA violation waiting to happen. Really bad look for us.

These accusations fly all over message boards for the top 50 football programs. They don't investigate really. The NCAA is a shell of its former self after bungling a series of investigations.

From Penn State to Baylor, with Notre Dame in between. It's border to border. The NCAA brass doesn't care if random guy on URI's message board rumors there is a kid asking for cash.

They don't have the man power and time to fight all the battles. Then throw on top of that they are on shaky ground because the revenue is so high.

I'm not worried about the NCAA, I'm sure they're not going to investigate off of something on a message board. I'm just saying maybe we shouldn't slander high school kids.

FWIW, I don't think we're done with Nelson yet. Dana Tate and Nelson just started following each other on twitter yesterday. I know, it probably means nothing. But Dana has been basically following guys that we're involved with. In the past few days, he's also started following Brendan Adams and Tyrese Martin. So, there's that...

If URI is involved they're doing some incredible stealth recruiting.

If they were doing a home visit it would be reported on, unless the coaches sneaked in under the cover of darkness.

That is an intentional strategy by DH and staff, especially when they are in on a kid they feel is going to blow up.
It's been an effective strategy as well. Walk quietly and carry a big stick.
