There's a post on the VCU recruiting page that states they are no longer recruiting him. It's possible, because they are involved with several other highly rated 2017 PG prospects.

Russell announced his final 6: Grand Canyon, La Salle, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, SMU, Western Kentucky

Per Zags I believe he announced his visit - Sept 8-10.

Daron Russell on an official visit to Western Kentucky this weekend.

FYI, URI classes begin on Sept 7th so his visit here will coincide with the first full weekend of students return to campus.

Fats visits this week starting on Thursday. Let's hope we get our first commitment.

He should be at URI for the Football Game against Albany at 1pm Saturday. Doesn't hurt to have a Football Game going on during the visit.

In addition, 2 of our Linemen are from Russell's Imhotep Charter High School in Philadelphia
Tyrone Barge, a redshirt Freshman Defensive Lineman 6'0 285lbs
Jahmir Ross Johnson, Freshman Offensive Lineman 6'5" 275lbs

His official visit starts today, would love a verbal this week/weekend

Any sightings or word how the visit is going?

Looks like no commitment on this trip, never a good sign but doesn't mean it's over either obviously. I know we only have two available slots but this class has been really quite from a URI perspective.

Possibly out of respect for his brother's school and still make his official visit, but I really think he'll be a Ram!!

If he's announcing tomorrow then he's skipping his SMU visit.

If he's skipping his SMU visit then I'd assume he's going to Grand Canyon.

If we only get 1 recruit this year this is player I would want. He was amazing in the Nike AAU circuit this summer.

I don't know if I will melt down, but I cannot fathom why anyone would choose to go to a scam college or why the NCAA even allows them to play.

Nah no meltdown, we have been through this enough to understand that you can never reason where a 18 year old wants to spend his next four years. Hopefully this works out for us though.

Word on the Lasalle board is "the word on the street is that it's URI". Can't figure out what that is based on though so it could be nothing. Good to see regardless.

His brother is the starting PG at GCU and is a senior. He might want to follow in his brother's footsteps. His brother even tweeted about Fatts' visit to GCU.

I've seen Russell play a couple times and trust me I'd take him as the only recruit this year if that meant I could only have one player.

Interesting article on GCU from March. Actually this will be the first seaso, in 2017, that GCU will be eligible to play in the NCAA tournament - the first time since moving up to D1 from the NAIA ranks.
They play Duke and Penn State on the road prior to our seeing those two teams in Connecticut - I hope it's Duke we see. Will be interesting to see how GCU does in those two games.

I always like when a guy predicts us the day before the announcement to. It may mean nothing, but making the prediction that close to the announcement makes me think he knows something.

We are now the favorite for him with another analyst changing his prediction to URI.

Evans said URI was one of the top picks. One of the 247 guys also picked GCU today. They guess just like we do. I'm confident but not getting my hopes up either.

So it is supposedly a Final 4 of URI, Grand Canyon, LaSalle and Seton Hall.

Seton Hall would be a surprise since Zags wrote a lengthy article on them yesterday and mentions Fatts' decision at the bottom but doesn't link the two:

DARON RUSSELL POISED TO ANNOUNCE

Daron "Fatts" Russell, the 5-10 point guard from Imhotep Institute in Philadelphia, will announce his college choice at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (today).

Russell is expected to choose from among Rhode Island, La Salle, Grand Canyon and Seton Hall. He also considered Western Kentucky and SMU.

He visited Grand Canyon this past weekend and has also tripped to Western Kentucky, Rhode Island and La Salle.

Why do you say that?

If Russell picks URI in 15 minutes I'll be elated. Won't matter to me if he ends up being our only 2017 recruit he is that good. Any more recruits will be icing in the cake.

Fingers crossed. I really think he becomes a Rhody Ram. Stays on one East Coast and joins a fast improving URI Rams organization. Would be a great choice
