If he keeps getting these MVP's of tournaments he may very likely become a McDonald's all American.

I have always been way more loyal to the guys on the team than the guys coming in, but I really am hoping he comes in and starts. Just so good that he has to start. Not to say that the current starter hasn't had tremendous games, or great talent. I just want this team to actually deliver once. What if he was a HS McDonald's All American? Hell of a surprise.

Why can't we just a recruit that is better than everyone else on the team? US FOR ONCE!

Then he has a Tu Halloway run of all tournament years.

How about this from game last night in a 76-73 win, yes a "close game" win , over 10-1 Math, Civics and Sciences HS, where Russell had 12 pts, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.?
That's Russell throwing the pass.....

Russell's team has now moved up to #14 Nationally in MaxPreps.

Russell added 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the double OT win over MCS. In the MCS game, Imhotep had to play very shorthanded without 7 players, including South Carolina recruit David Beatty, plus without their Head Coach and all Assistant Coaches as they were suspended due to the altercation in the game with Constitution. The Constitution game was stopped and will be replayed at a later date. All were back for last Saturday's game with Simon Gratz which Imhotep won easily.

14. (15) Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia), 12-1
Wild week for the Panthers, who had a game against Constitution (Philadelphia) halted due to a player altercation then outlasted Math Civics & Sciences (Philadelphia) on Thursday in double overtime

Dan also said "he was the MVP of the prestigious Beach Ball Classic and that they fell in love with him last April." He also said they watched all his games at the Peach Jam last July and "don't know who at Peach Jam played better than him." Dan called him a "dynamic blur."

I watched the live, streamed Championship game of the Montverde Academy Tournament that just ended this Saturday night in Florida,
12th ranked Imhotep of Philadelphia upset 3rd ranked Montverde of Florida 57-48. Montverde had not lost at home in 6 years having won 55 straight at home until tonight.
Montverde is led by #1 ranked Class of 2019 RJ Barrett who is going to be tremendous, #15 ranked 2019 Andrew Nembhard and #39 ranked 2018 Rechon Black. Very talented team.

Daron Russell had 10 points in the championship game and a host of rebounds, steals and assists. Russell was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. He has a knack for being at the right place for rebounds and loose balls. He's going to be a good one for URI. Donte Scott of Imhotep was named MVP for the championship game itself.

Imhotep goes from unranked in Expert Poll in USA Today to #15 with winning Montverde's Tournament this weekend. Daron Russell was MVP of the Tournament, duplicating his Tournament MVO accomplishment of the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach SC over the December Holidays

http://usatodayhss.com/2017/imhotep-cha ... l-rankings

Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia) broke into the Super 25 boys basketball rankings in a big way, ending a 55-game home winning streak for then-No. 5 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.).
The Panthers are 18-2 and now No. 15 after going 3-0 to win the Montverde Invitational. David Scott had 17 points in a 57-48 defeat of Montverde Academy in the championship. Koby Thomas had 26 points and 12 rebounds in an 80-54 defeat of Windermere Prep (Windermere, Fla.) in the Montverde Invitational and Daron Russell had 24 points in a 70-59 defeat of Rainier Beach (Seattle) in the Montverde Invitational.

Well if he's that good Billyboy....he'll get plenty of PT right off the bat...or he should.....if he's got a high BB IQ, then that will be something kind of new on this team [although JD has it too].......

Although with the rest of the teams' and coaching issues, you have to wonder if he will have his doubts. Will he improve here?

And we can definitely turn him into a 40% FT shooter in no time.

I meant playing for a school that was on the rise, an A10 power, a team that would be in the tourney often. When he was recruited and signed, all the hype was still alive. We were a top 25 pre-season pick, a favorite to win the A10, a sleeper final 4 team. That's what sold him on URI. I'm sure he wanted to be a part of all that. He's a winner. He's the MVP on one of the best high school teams in the country. He has been an MVP in big tournaments. Now he is seeing what is happening to his future team. If he's as good as they're saying, he can be a piece in getting to where we want to go. But, he's a 5'10", 160 lb. guard. He'll need a lot of help. Our situation has obviously changed since he signed here. If we're not a top 25, A10 power, NCAA tourney team this year, will we be next year, or the year after that? It certainly seems there's a pretty big dropoff in talent once Hass, Iverson, EC, Jared and Jarvis are gone. Unlees we have a huge '18 recruiting class, there's a good chance Fatts will never play in an NCAA tourney game. I'm sure that was not his vision.

Years ago, we had a McDonald's AA from Philly,
Pappy Owens, sign here.
Huge get by Jack Kraft.
Pappy signed here with the idea of playing with Sly Williams and for
Jack Kraft.
Marc Upshaw also signed that recruiting cycle, with the same idea.
URI was becoming a top program under Kraft.
Well, Sly went to the NBA, and Kraft got a heart attack.
Upshaw ,who was a tremendous talent, blew out his knee as a soph,
and was never the same.
Meanwhile, neither he nor Pappy Owens ever played for a tournament team.
URI went 10 years between NCAAs, under Claude English and
Brendan Malone, before Tom Penders came here.

All of the guards are back first of all.

Second, you are comparing those guys best play against their back ups as they are now. Presumably the back ups will get better and our top players currently don't give their best play all of the time.

All the good things Martin,EC,Iverson, and Terrell have done have been brought back to earth by something they do bad or just don't do. There's plenty ways to compete and win a game.

Daron and Imhotep are still playing. They have a quarterfinal match-up against Audenreid Sunday at 2 at Temple. Imhotep beat them 74-69 in a really good game along their way to the Public League Championship. It's expected to be another competitive game, unlike their first win in this round of play-offs (81-52 over Scranton Prep). Weather had the schedules all messed up, but they're back on track now.
