Rutgers, what a mess. Suspended football coach. What else is new?

I seriously doubt it. Of the other 2, Monmouth is a long shot, FD is a moon shot.....

The kid has very low goals if he picks any of them.....

If the staff and other players want him, this is a no brainer.

Could explain the delay in announcing. Is he visiting there last minute, or did he unofficial there?

Otherwise, I still think he comes here....

Kids sometimes have like little events at their school to announce. It is a cool moment, so they should do it if their school is down with it. But as you can imagine, many schools would prefer to do it on a Friday if they are going to bring the whole school to the gym for a pep rally for one kid.

Can't commit on while on campus, and also the timing there seems off - if you're going to commit wouldn't you at least do the visit first then commit on the Sunday or Monday? I don't get why you would move it up three days and rob yourself of the chance to see the place first.

I guess if he's announcing on Friday, that visit isn't happening, and it's us.....

makes sense to make his choice on a Friday if it's at his school or wherever....

You can't even give a verbal when on campus? I thought it was just for signing.

I'm pretty sure you can give a verbal and tell a coach you're coming. You can't sign an LOI until November anyway.

Yeah I think that is right. I may have misspoke. I think I confused the signing thing with other rules, like I think coaches from other teams cannot contact you while you're on an official and neither can reporters. It wouldn't make sense to have a rule that a guy can't verbal while on campus, since it's a non-binding thing anyway. My bad.

When it comes to "offers" and what not, there isn't really a standardized way to gauge interest from program to program, player to player. When you look at some of the past topics even on this board, it's clear that some players list every school that's contacted them as an offer, while others only list two to four. And even then, it can vary from recruiting website to website - Scout.com had Jared Terrell with 10 interested schools, while ESPN.com listed four.

So, there is a ton of noise when it comes to recruiting. If I had to guess or assume, it wouldn't surprise me if other A-10 programs spoke to him, and either he wasn't interested or they weren't, and the interest didn't rise to a high enough level for it to get reported anywhere.

All that being said, and not to jinx anything - URI has to be the overwhelming favorite here, unless he took some secret unofficial nobody heard of. Hard to believe he's going to commit to a school he never even visited.

Just find it a little odd he does not have a Rivals page, and his ESPN page is blank. Kid must be flying way under the radar to not have a profile on the two biggest recruiting sites.

While I haven't been following things as closely as in other years,
I did see an ESPN NJ list that rates Langevine as the #11 player
in NJ.
He's listed as a 3 star with a 73 rating.
As someone pointed out in another thread,
ratings for big men seem suspect, pointing to Oneykaba's
13th ranked center in his class, and Jordan Hare's top 100
ranking.

FWIW, a couple days ago Langevine himself posted a screen grab of ESPN's 2016 Top Recruits in New Jersey.

He was listed at number 11. Kevin Marfo was listed at 7.

I'm not up to date on my "emojiis" but it appears he believes his ranking is a joke and he's fighting mad about it.

Don't underestimate that.
Even if he didn't do any of the recruiting on a big,
when he gets to meet them, ARD can say,
"I played in the Elite 8. I played pro ball. Been where you
are. I can show you how it's done, if you put in the work."
First time since Tyrone Weeks was on CFL's staff that
we've had this for big men.

Let me preface this by saying that I come from a neutral position on this. As in, I'm not giving an opinion, just wondering how we all know that ARD will be a great teacher of his guys? Billy Coen picked him up at NE and then he was at CoC. Magic Johnson couldn't teach a PG to save his life. Again, just interested in how everyone seems to have come to this. Bigs are hard to develop. Much harder than back court guys.

I agree that you don't have to be big to teach big play. That being said, ARD is a COACH, its his profession. His on court success is probably more tied to his work ethic and efforts to develop his own skill.

There must be several reasons why Magic Johnson can't teach a pg to play like him. Starting with his superior body & natural ability and ending with his bank account and lack of interest in the grind of teaching.

Some of us know ARD.
We know he's smart, and one of the hardest workers
ever at URI.
Talk to those who have watched him coach or have been coached by him.
Billy Coen always spoke about ARD's work ethic. He knew that from his time
on Skinner's staff here.
Nothing but high praise.

I may be the outlier here, but I think the fact that he is deciding on Friday (if this is actually what he is doing, the tweet is a little cryptic) makes it less likely in my opinion that he chooses Rhode Island.

My rationale. The tweet on Monday about decision, decision I interpret to mean that Rhody asked him to wait until after Marfo decides and he had to decide whether he wanted to do that or not. They just took two verbals from big men and the perceived best of the bunch has them in his final five. I think Hurley feels if he can get Marfo on campus, he has a good of a shot as anybody at closing the deal.

The fact that the next day he is tweeting about making a decision on Friday means he has made a decision not to wait and will select another school, in my opinion.

Again, pure speculation but that is how I read the situation.

I feel the same.

Again, if that's the route Dan and Co. want to go, I'm completely OK with it. We've already signed 2 large and talented bigs early in the period. Dan has done nothing but exceed expectations with every single thing he's done with the program since coming here, recruiting has been no different.

If they value one recruit over another, and want to take a chance on waiting at the risk of losing the other one, I'm fine with it.

Even if Marfo is the target and we don't get him, we have 2 guys in the front court already, and our only need is a PG to groom for 2 years. 1 open scholly waiting for the right guy, with a whole recruiting cycle, is a great place to be in.

Again, if they're regarded by staff as remotely even, take the guy who you
know wants to be here.
If they feel Marfo is markedly better or has the bigger upside,
then wait.
Only they know the answer to which player they may value over the other.
As Blue Man points out, we already have two horses in the barn,
so they can afford to be picky.

I have noticed the same with Terrell 78 -- he definitely got leaner. Should help his offensive game and overall quickness. Scary what this kid could do in the A10 this year if his skills come close to matching his athleticism. He's one of the guys I am most excited about seeing their progression this year.

I guess we'll know for sure as the day goes on.

Or maybe he's just taking a written exam today. Lol. Who knows.
