David Pekarek

Unread post by eli#10 »

Adam Finklestein is reporting that this guy is a former URI "pledge" and is now going to Fordham. A 6'7" shooter from the Czech Republic.........
Anyone aware of this guy?

I think Finkelstein is incorrect.
Never heard of this guy, ever.
With Twitter and all the other means of getting information,
I doubt all of us would have missed a committment.

Not that this is the guy, but wasn't there a Euro kid playing prep in Florida a year or two ago that "committed" to us, but then we were like "hold your horses"?

I posted in the general recruiting section on April 30 the following:

"I could see one of the random guys we grab being David Pekarek of the Czech Republic. He played at the NPSI at RIC earlier this year and was voted as NetScouts player of the game in his day 4 matchup. Looks to be a Nikola Malesevic clone - tall shooter ..."

I didn't think he ever committed though

We could have been involved before signing Akele. Some similarity between the two- taller, foreign shooters who were under recruited. Seems like Akele may fit our system better due to his length and athleticism.

I told him to ask Chris Disano who were are.
Either he really doesn't know who we are, or he's just
being a jerk because his something he wrote was questioned.

Just goes to show how crazy recruiting is. For the record, I believe Bill Koch's account; he's pretty careful with his facts.

I'm sure Koch went right to the source for his Tweet.

I think leaving Finkel-Dinkel in peace would be semi-appropriate, seeing that he "sorta admitted a mistake." He's been pretty good to URI coverage-wise on Cox, ESPN, and NERR.
Then again, knowing this board, have at it…..

Nothing against Finkelstein. He covers NE prep scene very well.
He just made a mistake. Everyone does.

Yeah, I think Adam does a good job overall and no harm no foul here. Just a good reminder about a couple of things I think we all know:

1. Recruiting info is always a little flimsy because of the word-of-mouth nature of the reporting. All of the sources for recruiting news (college HC, assistants, the player, the AAU coach, the HS coach, the "uncle," etc.) can all have slightly different reads on what is going on with a player's recruitment right up until the NLI hits the fax machine.

2. We're lucky to have Bill Koch covering URI to clear up situations like happened yesterday. Both Bill and Chris are well sourced and responsible enough that when they chime in I can take them at their word.
