Like I said in another thread, Washington and Terrell played together at Brewster. So, there is that connection.

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
He would come eligible for EC/Hassan senior year and Iverson senior year. Wow.
We need this kid or a kid like him. Add him, a 4 year big, and a big that can contribute next year and this program is in amazing shape.
We really couldn't expect more if all that was added to what we have. This kid with all that other stuff would have to be a legit second weekend contender that could have a shot at a 3rd weekend.

Actually if eligible to practice a player like this could be huge for next season as well.

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
I can confirm that I saw this guy on campus Wednesday. He was walking with Hassan, into the dining hall. I was across the street so I couldn't say anything to them, but I remember he was taller than Hassan, and now that I Googled him, he looks exactly like the guy I saw on Wednesday. Don't know what this means but I'm just throwing it out there.

Washington was not on campus. He will wait until the NBA Draft shakeup to start taking visits.

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
Washington was NOT on campus yesterday, the whole staff has been all over the east coast since the beginning of the week. Although I can confirm that the staff has heard back from washington's advisers (ie a man fast becoming our best friend and potentially a future assistant coach, ty boswell) that Kyle plans on visiting Rhody on one of his officials. This is a perfect match. we get a one year stop gap like kouassi(who imho is extremely overrated, DPOY with 19mpg 5rpg and 1.3bpg?? granted the guys athletic and 6'10 but I feel like earl Watson could put those numbers up at Kennesaw St.; actually he could def put up those numbers, if you doubled earls output this year 9.9mpg 2.6rpg and .9bpg he would've put up 5.2rpg and 1.8bpg in 20mpg and that's in the superior A10. bottom line is if we do sign Kouassi, temper expectations, he could show up at just a hair over 6'8 too as most of those lower level schools add a couple inches and all reports had him at 6'8-6'9 when he originally signed with Auburn as a top 75 player coming out of high school.) and then Kyle jumps right into the starting lineup next year. he would still be a junior and be in the same class as his prep school and aau buddy Jared Terrell.
Bottom line is this kid is exactly what we thought we were getting with gil. a true inside big with sneaky good athleticism, hes gotten better every month of his college career and after hurley gets his hands on him for a year of practice going against the brute force and athleticism of Hassan and the virtuoso inside outside game of Kuran, this kid will have the potential to be a double double guy right away in the A10. he doesn't shy away from the big moments. he lives in the paint. hes big and strong. he wont be intimidated. Against jordan mickey and jerrell martin the two NBA First round bigs from LSU, Washington came in with the Wolfpack down 16 and the 3 bigs in front of him (starters Abu and Lennard Freeman, and first backup Beejay Anya) all struggling, he proceeded to score 3 straight baskets including a 3 pointer with the shot clock set to expire. He also fought for a ball that had just been blocked by mickey (one of his 6 blocks of the game, meanwhile Washington had no shots blocked) and turned and dunked it on the 6'9 mickey who averaged over 4bpg this year and the 6'10 jerrell Martin. He finished that game with 9pts 4rebs and a block in just 12 mins but keyed a 6 min stretch in which NCSt keyed there comeback.
idk how to put links on here so hopefully this works but this is Kyle's shot chart for last season. he knows where hes gonna make his money. we don't need a 6'10 big ala jonathan Holton shooting four 3pointers a game.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CCuLyNKUIAAD6zI.jpg:large
kid lives and eats inside. add a couple impact 2016's and if EC stays, you are looking at a team with top 10-15 potential in 2016.

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
I was told that Kyle will take 5 visits. He will not plan any until he sees what college rosters look like after the end of the NBA declaration period, which would be next weekend. I'm not saying we won't get a visit, but as of now, he has not planned one here.

Listen I don't care what you guys wanna tell me, but the guy that I saw on Wednesday looked exactly like Kyle Washington. Either him or his 6'9 evil twin. I know what I saw.

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
Maybe he was covert visiting Jared or something and not "officially" visiting. But it seems weird that he would come to town and that would be on nobody's radar. I can't pretend to know for sure, but I'd be surprised to learn he was in fact on campus.

He was not here. If you want me to be more specific, he was asked if he was on the URI campus this week, and his response was, "Hell no!"

I hope that wasn't a "hell no" like he would never want to go here??..

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
Kid with Hassan was his friend Eric Snipes, son of Eric Garner (the man that was died after being taken down with a choke hold by a cop). He and Hassan are really close friends and he is just visiting Hass, not URI bball.

Thanks for sharing. Did not realize Hass had such a close connection to Garner. Must have been a hard/weird year for him.

I don't think it would be that. I think it would be how I would say "hell no!" if someone asked me if I was somewhere I wasn't. And that is exactly what I would say.CT Rhody wrote:I hope that wasn't a "hell no" like he would never want to go here??..

Ok I guess it must have been. Him and Washington look really similar, and I guess that Snipes is 6'9. My mistake.

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
Totally random guess, but supposedly he was waiting for the deadline to declare for the draft to pass before he visited schools and we're expecting 3 people on campus this weekend. Could Kyle be one of the three?

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
"Kyle Washington: Washington will continue playing college basketball, but not at NC State. My sources tell me Washington’s father now works in New York, and that Kyle’s transfer options include schools along the East Coast. Washington’s decision to leave NC State is all about playing time. He lost his starting forward spot to Lennard Freeman in mid-February. Freeman’s defense and rebounding played a large part in State’s late-season success. At the same time, Washington brought some unique skills to the Wolfpack offense.
"Say what you will about the aesthetics of Washington’s technique, he was both a willing and accurate jump shooter. Washington made plays in both Virginia games. The Cavaliers allow shots from the corner (and sometimes from the short corner) as many players aren’t very comfortable at those spots. Washington is, but now will do his shooting for someone else. Also, it was Washington, along with Lacey, who led the improbable comeback against LSU."

Of these schools, at how many could he realistically become a starter? A starter and a game-changing star? After looking at his choices, that's what he wants, save a few schools, because he thinks this is like being recruited out of Brewster Academy.
Actually, I think it's a good we're not on the list.
Maybe he was told after a secondary, more in-depth-type discussion with Coach Hurley, don't put URI on your list…….

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
This is a case of the player thinking like the Murphy kid
did, going from Duke to Florida.
Instead of trying to find playing time, wants the glory of transferring
to a P5 school.
He would have been a perfect fit here, and gotten loads of playing time.
Doubt he'll get that at a Kansas or some of the others on his list.

Haven't we learned anything about how assistants are hired at URI lately? Often they are locked up but due to hiring and fiscal year rules, they are kept in the shadows until it is POSSIBLE to confirm.

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
There's now two openings on staff, but unless Carr moves to the DBO
or whatever Enright was, I don't see Boswell taking that spot.
His value would be in recruiting, and DBOs can't recruit.
It'll be interesting how this shakes out.
Hurley has a golden opportunity to reorganize and make his staff
more efficient and more diverse.

Enright was the assistant DBO, working under Tirone. If Carr took that position, wouldn't that be a step down?

Yes. It would take some shuffling to get Boswell and
another person coming in to do recruiting.
Carr would seem the logical person to take off the road.
Maybe some admin position somewhere, to keep him around?
As I said, it'll be interesting to see what eventually happens.

Re: '13 MN C - Kyle Washington (NC State Transfer)
Or maybe he is listening to someone else? Ty thought enough of our program and our staff to direct Iverson here, and Iverson likely could have made a list similar to what Kyle has put together. I think Bress is right here in that he is looking at this like going through the recruiting process all over again - for some kids the attention and feeling wanted is more important than the actual basketball. You never know who really has these kids' ears.Bos8 wrote:I thought his advisor was Ty Boswell, the guy that everyone on the board is in love with and wants as an assistant coach?
