Just a joke. They busted out the whole "Jeffrey Dowtin, Jr." Full name usually means you did something wrong.

Ha got it. I'm a little slow on the uptake these days. Averaging about 2 hours of sleep thanks to the little man.

I know rankings don't mean much - but I think it is a good sign that with Jeff there will nine 3 star players on next years roster.

Impressive interview. Sounds like a smart kid and a student of the game, great qualities for a PG to have.

Agreed- two great pieces. Nice to hear from his coach how he sees Dowtin and also from his mom about the recruitment process. They have high praise for Cox, which seems well deserved. Cox has that education and basketball background, similar to Hurley, that seems to help him connect with families and be an effective recruiter. The interview with Dowtin was also impressive. I like to hear point guards talk about the game like that.

Since you brought up Rhody gear, I'll mention that I was in Baton Rouge about a month ago and decided to look in the LSU shop by the stadium to see how a big time school promotes their gear. I was actually overwhelmed with the quantity and diversity of the merchandise. They even had a separate store for children's gear. One of the other things I noticed (aside from the fact that every man woman and child either wore LSU gear or had flags on their trucks) was that every golf course that I went to, every store, and just about every restaurant was either selling or displaying LSU gear. It became nauseating. I had my wife take some photos in the shop, and if I can figure out how to do it I'll attach them.

I went to grad school with a LSU alum. I told him URI would kill LSU in basketball. He thought I was kidding. All of a sudden URI had LSU on the schedule and then they beat them. That was awesome.

LSU fandom is nauseating I would agree.

It is the same in every region that has big-time college football. My daughter was in school in Atlanta the past three years...every car represented some football school or other with gear and flags....

St. John's had a great showing in the Beach Ball Classic last week. They went 3-1, including a win over top ten Mater Dei. Their loss was to always great Montverde. Dowtin tends to play in the front court for this team, which is definitely not where he'll be at the next level. His current team just has no size.

Dowtin averaged 16 points in the four games (21, 8, 25, 11). His relatively poorer scoring games were against Mater Dei and Montverde, which isn't surprising given the individual match-ups. What was most impressive was his scoring efficiency, including 12-20 from 3. He was also 15-17 from the free throw line.

In the last game played in the Beach Ball Classic, St John's lost to powerhouse Monteverde (15-1) in a close game 52-48. Dowtin led all scorers for St John's with 11 points hitting three 3-pointers.

Big game Tuesday Night this week with St John's playing at home against #1 Ranked DC Metro Gonzaga HS.

The Eagles take over the top spot after winning the Junior Orange Bowl Basketball Classic and rallying to beat Neumann-Goretti (Pa.) for their fifth straight victory.

2. St. John’s (12-1) LW: 2
The Cadets upended nationally ranked Mater Dei (Calif.) at the Beach Ball Classic in South Carolina before falling to another nationally ranked foe, Montverde (Fla.), in the final.

3. DeMatha (10-2) LW: 1
Led by Markelle Fultz’s 20 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, the Stags beat Seattle power Garfield at the Les Schwab Invitational in Oregon but lost their next two games to nationally ranked Oak Hill and Montverde.

Wish I was at St. John's tonight!!!
St. John's went from being unranked in USA Today all the way up to #10 in today's Top 25 release!!!

St. John's tonight goes against #18 USA Today ranked Gonzaga. Gonzaga is ranked #1 and St John's #2 in latest Washington Post Metro rankings.

Will be a great game.

Dowtin playing very well overall and especially his 3 point shooting. His backcourt partner signed with Maryland.
