until the season has begun.
Only 1 year of varsity basketball... he's catching up nicely.

Upside, unlimited!
Still, you have to give him some time to adjust to college life and
college basketball, at age 17.
For his sake, I'd caution patience.

No doubt. It's nice that they'll be able to work him in to the rotation. Good basketball family, too. He knows the way it works.

This is the biggest point I think. Won't be a Hare situation where we need the kid to start on day one and be a huge contributor.

Too true. As someone who expressed disappointment in Hare's play this year, I forget that in a better situation Hare would have been given more time to develop before being forced to take on A-10 upperclassmen.

It's POY of Staten Island, which is nice, but not NYC POY, which I think hasn't been named yet.

Severe is the Daily News POY. Martin did make the All-City team.

At tonight's even, Dan said he sees Martin as a big 3-stretch 4 and if he continues to develop his 3 pt shot, he could be a SF going into his sophomore year, creating matchup problems for opponents.

i saw him play once but....

if he ever developed a prolific perimeter game he would be unstoppable

basically a beefier and more chiseled delroy, with even more athleticism. insert good coaching and that is an nba prospect.

Didn't he hit a bunch of threes in one of those post season NY all-star games?

This kid will eventually be a beast in Keaney Blue. Huge athleticism, great body and solid fundamental skill base. When he picks up a consistent game from 15+ feet than look out. I didn't take an hour trying to figure out how to make an avatar for my screen name for some role player!!!! Look out A10.

Jon Rothstein ‏@JonRothstein 17m
URI freshman Hassan Martin measured with a 41 inch vertical leap this past week. Under the radar frosh heading into the Atlantic 10.

Zach Braziller Zach Braziller‏@NYPost_Brazille @JonRothstein Big-name programs are going to regret not recruiting Martin.

It would be interesting to know if it's no step or not. Here's a discussion that puts it into perspective:

The great athletic ability is evident. What I love is his aggressiveness going after rebounds. He's only 17 so he's going to get stronger. The combination of the athletic ability and his hunger for the ball should make him a fierce rebounder in a year or so.

agree 78, on top of that in the 2 games i saw him he also was the first guy helping his teammate from the floor, diving for loose balls and pumping up his guys. seems like a formula for our new regime. i think this kid will be special in 2-3 years.
