Corey Evans:
"Hard to believe that there is 50 better freshmen nationally than Preston Santos. 6'5 wing with 32 on an array of scoring moves off the deck"

6'5"? Nice picture, though.

Jared looks like he's an inch taller than Preston. Maybe they figure he WILL be 6-5 by the time he stops growing.

Plus he is only a Freshman at Bishop Hendricken so lot of time to grow

Oh, yes, absolutely. It's just kind of funny how some people take all these recruiting "facts" as such.

We'd better get the sneeker thing straightened out.
Expressions is a NIKE program and we're addidas.
I never understood the sneeker culture, but apparently there's
lots of money being invested by these companies in
players and programs wearing their brand.

The shoe thing, no matter how stupid it seems, is and has been a big deal. It's no secret. The funny thing is Expressions' two best recent players went to non-Nike schools.

So, it's not a roadblock but an added complication where there is often no margin for error.

Not sure how other people feel, but I have always though Adidas basketball shoes were the most comfortable in my experience. Not the most durable, but my feet feel great when I am wearing them. The last pair of Nikes I owned made my toes bleed.

Yes, but we are all old and think New Balance is the beacon of comfort.

There is not an 18-22 year old player out there who wants to wear Adidas over Nike. It's important to switch. Or Jordan which is considered a separate brand from Nike would really take it to the next level…but I don't know how easy that is. I know a couple players at a school that just went from Jordan to Under Armor…let's just say I don't think Under Armor would help.

Under Armor was the Big Thing for a little while, but that worm has turned and it has gone back to Nike.

Santos has to come to URI because he is a 6'5" lefty . URI is the natural place for Left Handed Guards to matriculate, and forwards too (Sly, Delroy, Hassan........)
Has to be watching EC's progression at URI with Pro Scouts watching him closely. Has to like hearing about Hurley's plan to make URI the Gonzaga of the East and has to like watching the rising success of the URI program. Used to be we would not have a chance at a kid like this from RI but with Hurley and Staff things are changing. Love that we have kids like this looking closely at URI as Freshmen in HS.

Bishop Hendricken swingman Preston Santos is a long six-foot-five lefty who screams of long-term potential. He’s already got a solid foundation of skill to his game, has got a few more years before he finishes filling out physically, and the potential to become a big and skilled guard.

I am only 27. I don't see myself being that far removed...

I wear New Balance and my daughter calls them "old man shoes".
I don't need all the doodads to be comfortable.
They were saying how many players are now wearing the low cuts.
I wonder if that's giving them less support for the upper foot and
contributing to injuries?
Anyway, Thorr tells me addidas is a good partner.........
I wonder how Dan feels about this, since he felt so strongly about it
that he had it written in his new contract, to eliminate addidas?

Hendricken has a couple of good young guards......Justin Mazzulla and Preston Santos....they will be recruited by many major Division 1 schools....I believe they are both on providence college's radar and Santos is definitely on ours also....not sure if we are involved with Mazzulla....

.....don't know if DH's sons play basketball....and will they play at Hendricken?

Isn't his oldest a freshman at Hendricken now? Another young player to watch in RI is Chris Herren Jr. He's a freshman at Portsmouth High and easily their best player. He scored 30 last night.

They'll all be prepping shortly. Something to be said for bloodlines.

He's reclassified to 2019 and is said to be attending the Brooks School.

I saw Santos play this year at Hendricken. He's a lefty with some bounce, a good athlete. Should be a good prospect in a year or so.

Super high potential, but he needs to add strength both mentally and physically if he's going to play in this program. Just saying!

I haven't seen him play since he was at Hendricken. He didn't look like a great prospect then, but that was a couple of years ago.

At Woodstock Academy. Bryant and UMass just offered.

Woodstock coach Tony Bergeron has a close relationship with Grasso. Tony has two Woodstock teams so he has a lot of players to try to place in D1 at all levels. Santos AAU team just went to a clinic at UMASS.

I am guessing he has dropped off URI’s radar.

That was the cool commitment video.

Except for the part where he had a Umass shirt on and said Go minutemen.

Santos looked like a good role player after his freshman season - shot 41 percent from 3-point range. He redshirted 2020-21, and I don't recall if it was for pandemic reasons or injury reasons or development reasons. He logged about 10 games and 40 minutes his 2021-22 season, with a lot of DNPs for personal reasons, and an ejection from the bench one game. I would assume he's not an option for us and probably needs to be looking at lower-than-A10 level schools if he wants consistent minutes.

Pretty positive he took a leave of absence for mental health reasons.
