Quite a talent, no doubt. Was suspended a couple of times and had injuries at Memphis. I believe his last straw was retweeted or tweeted something about Pastner and his lack of ability as a coach. I know a couple of guys like Garry Parrish and Jeff Goodman have been critical of his issues while at Memphis. But Pastner has been known to have had a lot of problems with several players as well. He is Allen Iverson's cousin, not nephew.

No idea what the level of interest is on either end, but would obviously be just what the doctor ordered. Could make us a real contender for a DEEP tournament run in a year or two (depending on when he gets in school and gets eligible).

Bill was saying how the bad crown tonight doesn't help us with recruits. He is probably right, but it is hard to blame fans for being a little behind the curve with a program that had been down for so long. The fans will show up. Just win. In the meantime, hopefully he was more impressed with Hass than worried about the crowd. I know if I was a big looking for a home, I'd want to play next to a dude like that.

People who know him better and longer than Dan.
By the way, we recruited him originally, but he blew up,
and the big boys jumped in, as is often the case.
He claims he's not close to his cousin.

If he was there tonight, he was disguised as a chair.
You can't hide a 6'9" guy in the Ryan Center. The
recruits usually sit behind the bench.
This is pretty much a done deal. Just awaitng transcripts to enroll.
Will be eligible to play December 2015.
Perfect.
A tremendous talent, with some problems. So what?

I'm all in for taking a shot with this type of talent. Certainly has the type of talent to make a real difference if he has his head on straight. Dan's very good at relating to players and could potentially become a very good fit.

Basketball is loaded with successful headcases.
Sly Williams, Lamar Odom, Marvin Barnes, to name a few locally.
If we strive to become successful, Dan needs to take a chance
now and them.
Can't all be choirboys.
Isn't Dan's all time favorite player, loonie JR Smith?

This kid could really be the difference maker we've been waiting for. Put him in there with a year older EC, Hassan, Garrett and Terrell and things sure are looking good on paper.

Let's hope his transcripts make it so.
Supposedly, he signed whatever paperwork was needed, yesterday.
So, now they await his transcripts.
I'm sure if Memphis faxes them, and he's in good standing, he'll enroll.
He has 11 months to get his academics in order, in any case.
Somebody on the recruiting thread mentioned he was at t he game,
but opposite the visitor's bench.
Never thought to look over there, since recruits usually sit behind our bench.

Heard some chatter in one of the suites last night about a recruit that would be eligible December 2015. I didn't put it together until this morning when I saw this thread. Based on the participants in the conversation I would assume there is a very good chance of this happening.

We originally recruited him.
This is an Expressions Elite former player.
Supposedly, the meeting was set up by Expressions Elite.
Nobody on staff had much to do with this.
Carr was here, when Iverson was in high school.

I asked in the other thread but does anybody know who our connection is with him? Is this strictly a proximity thing? If he wants to be close to home then we are his best option considering he'd have to sit out longer for UConn due to in-conference transferring.

As I wrote on the transfer's thread, this supposedly is a done deal,
with all the paperwork being signed yesterday.
They're waiting for his transcript and then he'll enroll.
Even if there's a problem, he has 11 months to get his academics in order.
Expressions Elite former player, played with Terrell.
They set this up .
Nice organization to know, eh?

According to the reports of his transfer announcement, he was supposed to stay at Memphis for the spring semester. Obviously, he would want to transfer now to be eligible sooner but if he has academics to straighten out, Memphis could have other plans.

I'm all for adding talent but where does he play...who sits next year for him? Does a guy like that want to be sixth man or be the king? Someone like Garret/EC/Terrell is losing major minutes because of this. Like I said, seems like a big talent but transfers rarely work out as well as on paper. Just get one or two more good 2015s and keep building that way.

I heard Memphis already vacated his scholarship.
Sorry, I don't care who sits out. This guy is more talented than anyone in our program.
He can play small forward or SG.
Hurley plays four guards, anyway. So he'll have one who happens to be 6'9".
This guy could stretch the floor better than anyone we now have.
Answers a lot of questions on offense.

I'm sure Dan and the staff are still looking for another big, preferably a 5.

Recruiting never stops. Have to be proactive all the time.

Dan has already got to be thinking about replacing EC and Hassan.

Agree that he comes with baggage and might not work out as planned (as with all things), but disagree with who would be losing minutes. TJ is currently playing 22 min/gm which will need to be replaced, and I have no problem playing Hassan and a 6'9" wing in the frontcourt (or Earl/Iverson when Hassan needs a breather) along with Garrett/EC/Terrell. If all goes according to plan, not likely, but in an ideal setting he'd take some of TJs minutes, Biggie's minutes would likely decline, and he might even take some of the minutes that Gilvydas will be vacating.

Plenty of minutes to go around....almost all good teams these days are a mix of transfers, 4 year guys and jucos. Especially at our level. a 4 year big man that we can attract will take 2 years to make an impact on the court. Chukwu is a non factor in most PC games and he was a Top 100 guy. By that time EC and Hassy are gone. Transfers are a risk/reward scenario, this is a risk worth taking IMO. Dan has long talked about a stretch 4, this could be the guy.

Everything I've read about him, and read quite a bit stuff before his connection to here, I haven't read anything at all about academics being a problem. He seems to have simply had a major conflict with Pastner, that seems very common according to Memphis message boards. Pastner asked him to leave because of conflicts.

Kid is amazingly talented. Probably most talented kid on roster once he enrolls. Last thing to worry about is minutes. As far as transfers, look what Iowa St has done with many transfers. This is great news.

You are probably right.

Still, color me skeptical about a guy who averaged 2ppg and 5ppg over his first two years. More turnovers than assists. As my dad used to tell me, you are either running toward something or running away from something. The history of transfers is more guys running away. Of course, I say this without probably ever seeing a minute of him playing. Maybe he is awesome and just was in the wrong spot. Has happened before. I was just ready to let a full time Jarvis (who would get some of those TJ minutes), EC, JT as a big three guard rotation, HM as a flying around 4, and hoping for a late 2015 or transfer big. Some guys are 6'7"-6'9 who play 7' (like Hassan) and some play like they think they are Isaiah Thomas.
I guess the reality is that he is definitely going to be better than someone on the roster and the upside is there.

Agree. Look how many transfers there are every year now compared to 10 or 20 years ago. Its common. This kid definitely worth the risk. From the videos I have seen, he does have Lamar type qualities. Even seen him listed as a pg coming out of h.s. Very versatile.

I remember reading something about the summer leagues, one I think was in Ct. But did anything become of that?

Well, Dan isn't easy on his players, he demands a strong work ethic. Let's just hope that his issues aren't similar in nature to _____'s.

I heard that that was the only thing holding this up. Dan needed to be convinced. A lot of hyped recruits become malcontents when they don't think they're getting enough PT.

With this kid's talent, if he works hard, I'm sure he'll get minutes.

Look at the kid Wiltjer, who did nothing at Kentucky and'is now the
leading scorer for Gonzaga.
Lasalle's leading scorer is a transfer.
Transfers are everywhere in growing numbers. To disregard them
as all not worth the bother, is shortsighted.
As for some high school tournament stuff, that's three years ago. Who cares?
This isn't Jarelle Reischel, this is a big time big talent transfer.
To me, it's a no lose situation.

From those videos, his handle is not good enough to play PG, but definitely good enough to play SF. He has perimeter skills, but also has post up moves. He looks to also be another shot blocker. He could be used in many different ways, depending on matchups. I'm very excited and hope this happens.

This is an absolute no brainer! Once he is enrolled he will have to do it "the Hurley way" a/k/a my way or the highway. Once here a transfer to another school will not happen as he will have to sit out another year.
He and Hare can be put on the same weight program.

There are 500+ transfers per year so there are bound to be some good ones. I also don't disagree that it's worth a shot. Not like this roster is teeming with 13 elite guys. I just disagree that there is definitely downside. Why else would DH need to be convinced? He's weighing pros and cons, obviously.

Funny thing is, Dan's favorite former player is the whacko JR Smith.
I was in on a conversation Dan and Preston had over if they should
let Dominic Woodson visit, a few years ago.
They ultimately decided that Woodson was not a good fit, and he would
disrupt team chemistry and what Dan was trying to do overall.
Well, Woodson is on his third school in three years.
Guess they made the right call.
Dan always said, "I don't want some wild man coming here, and messing
things up."
I guess this is where he'll earn his money. Great coaches learn to
deal with difficult personalities.
Basketball seems to have the lion's share of them.

He has a much better situation to bring a risky guy into right now than he had a couple years ago. He has his leaders in place. The program was very fragile when Woodson was on their radar.

I didn't mean to suggest he was a pg or would be a pg here. Obviously Jarvis has a very bright future here. Simply stating I saw him listed as pg on reports coming out of h.s. Just to have that he obviously has a good handle for 6-9.
